Hey do you know if i could hook up multiple CHES on a single thermostat ? Or do i need seperate thermostats?

Provided that you don’t exceed the maximum wattage allowed (being 600W), you can put on as many as you’d like if you put an extension into socket 1 of the thermostat. However, whether this is adequate or not for your situation depends what you’re trying to achieve. If you just want to put two heaters into one stat because one isn’t enough to reach the set point in a single viv, then this will be fine. Alternatively, if you’re trying to heat multiple separate vivaria, you will struggle with just one thermostat because each enclosure will have a different ambient temperature (particularly if they’re stacked on top of each other).

Could you use the digital dimming thermostat with a heat mat and an 8W UVB lamp? (For a Leopard Gecko) And if so, would it actually dim the light in time with the mat? That sounds amazing. Although quite complicated for a reptile beginner like myself!

ucrazysquirrel Yes, you could do that. It wouldn’t dim the UVB light, however - only the heat mat. The light would just be switched on or off depending on the time of day :)

I currently have 3 on/off thermostats. One for my Crested Gecko which I think is fine because you just need to keep the temperature of the tank around room temp and I have one for my Corn Snake and one for when I get my ball python delivered. I've been wondering if on/off was the best for my snakes. They tend to turn on quite often but I imagine they would prefer a constant heat. Would you recommend I switch to pulse eventually?

MrDayDay112 Definitely - pulse prop. stats aren’t cheap, but they’re way better than may stays. If you can stretch to £80, then I’d really recommend the digital dimmerstats, as if you get those then you’ll never need to upgrade if you decide to get something like a Deep Heat Projector.

Is it safe to use a 100w mat stat with a 150w bulb?

No, it definitely isn’t! I don’t know the exact issues that it could result in, but overloading any electrical appliance is a fire hazard and it’s likely that you could blow the fuse in the thermostat, breaking the circuit and taking the heat away from your reptile. Moreover, if this ‘bulb’ is a filament bulb (with a little piece of wire inside), then it’ll blow in no time at all due to constantly being switched on and off. Dimmerstats are the only thermostats currently available that you can use to run filament bulbs and they usually have a power acceptance of 600W, so I’d recommend getting one ASAP :)

Ok I dont have a 100 w matt stat with a 150w bulb I just didnt know so I wanted to ask I exspected that this would be the case. I do need to get stats and about a month ago my royal died because I didnt have one and he got a burn when I have the monney Ill be upgrading all my tanks heating and lighting setups with the appropitate stats

Lizard I’m really sorry to hear that - your story is a prime example of why I thought this was an important video to make. If you’re yet to buy any stats, then definitely look at the digital dimmerstat as your first choice, although failing that pulse proportional thermostats are the go-to tech for heat mats and CHEs.

Thanks It was a shame to loose him I have a job for the summer so the monney I make will go towards that
