This will not clear "Book Time for Maintenance"
How-To Reset a Volvo Service Reminder Message.
This will Clear
"Time for Regular Maintenance"
"Maintenance Overdue"
Turn the Key to Key Position 1
or Insert Fob and press the Start Button for a second
Set Trip Odometer to T2
Depress and hold the trip odometer stem down
Check that T2 is still displayed
Turn the key to the Run Position (Not the Start Position)
For Start Buttons, keep your foot off of the brake so the car does not start and then hold the button down until everything lights up
Wait for the Information Symbol to start blinking
Release the trip odometer stem before the third flash
An audio beep will sound when the process is finished
If 162 displays after the beep,
then the reset failed
Try again

I took this info and was able to reset it on my 1999 V70. 1. - Set to TRIP 2. - HOLD the RESET button 3. - Turn key to position two 4. - Wait until Service Reminder light FLASHES three times, then release the RESET button 5. - YOU ARE DONE Thanks so much for this information!

2012 XC60 - This works: 1. Key in 2. Press Trip/Reset button to set car to "T2" position 2. Press ignition button once to get to Ignition Position I 3. Press and hold Trip/Reset button 4. Press Ignition button to get to Ignition Position II (Radio and HVAC turn on) 5. Watch yellow "I" indicator light, once it flashes three times, release the Trip/Reset button If you hold it too long (i.e. past three flashes) it will beep and you'll have to repeat the process.

Volvo V70 2010. After a few attempts this worked for me, put key in press and hold reset button on T2 it doesn't matter if its on zero, then press and hold start button wait until light flashes 3 times ( if it bleeps you waited to long) then release reset button T2 and keep holding start button until a different bleep sounds then release, remove key and start engine. Good luck

This is the correct one for a 2011 V60. You must let go of the trip reset button right after the 3 info light flashes or you get the "163" failed message. Thanks a lot for the help

Thanks for help buddy , I did it all ready 3 - 4 times . For some reason my V70 after service is showing that message , the mechanic told me is doing that because I don't wait to do the service until the message comes up . I usually do it at 10k km , even if the car is not asking yet . Thank you very much again , you saved me from a 40 Km trip to mechanic . 👍

Thank You. Took several tries but it finally worked. Like you I got the error message 161 twice. I think I was waiting too long to hit the start button after holding in the reset button. I found that when I did them almost at the same time it worked.

This worked on my Volvo V70, Many Thanks. Only thing is if you have a manual gear change, you need to keep your foot off the clutch when switching start button to position 1 or 2. (Foot off the brake is quite correct if an automatic gear change) Thanks again - from Yorkshire England

2010 Volvo XC60 w/ push-button start: I must have done this 15-20 times. I kept getting a '163' code where your 161 showed up. The final time that worked, I tried something different. Key in, press start once quickly, press and hold the reset button (set to T2 with at least 0.1m on the meter), press and hold start button for 2 seconds... all the same as done in the video. Time that worked, the very instant that I saw the yellow 'I' indicator on the dash, I released the reset button, then removed the key. Either it took 16+ tries to clear 15 messages in memory or releasing the reset button at exactly the right moment made a difference. Hope that helps someone. LOL... I wish I had read Heinz O'Connor's comment below before doing this hokey-pokey with the car!! :D

Just to let you know - it did not work for me when I just pushed the start button once while already holding the reset button (after turning the ignition ON) - the ignition would just turn OFF. I had to push and hold the start button along with the reset button in order to reset the reminder. Maybe having other messages was the case here but it finally worked. My Volvo is a petrol V8.

I would love to help but I do not even know if you are talking about a key fob push button start or a traditional key that is turned. You should not be able to remove the key unless the car is in park for an automatic transmission. If the key fob is not recognized then disconnect the battery for 1/2 hour, reconnect the battery and try again.

I was afraid I might have to go to the Volvo dealership to have the light reset. As with everybody else it took a couple of tries but it finally worked. Thanks for sharing the info. David, I'd like to know how you figured that one out?
@A_Renaissance_Man
@A_Renaissance_Man 10 лет назад
There were official Volvo instructions everywhere but there were two details missing. One was to release the T1/T2 Reset stem while the information light is flashing and prior to the audio sound. That one was just trial and error. The other was setting the trip odometer to T2. I found that in a one sentence response to someone who was asking an unrelated question at one of those 'Ask the Mechanic' sites so I though I would try that and it worked.

Hi, I'm planning to buy a 2007 S80 but i'm not sure if it's a good choice because it already has 63k mi on it and the maintenance cost is high. I was wondering if you could advice base on how many miles you already have on your S80 and how much have you spent after the 63k mark (if it's past that already). I hear modules are really trippy and 1 trip to the dealership would cost $1000 which is something that I want to avoid anytime soon. I look forward to your reply, thanks!

Make sure odometer is on T2......AND......THERE HAS TO BE at least 0.1 miles on the T2 odometer, so if it doesn’t reset the first time, you’ll need to drive 1/10 th of a mile😞

For the push button start vehicles, the key fob needs to be fully inserted so the vehicle can be placed into key position 2. Key position 2 is vehicle system on, engine not running.

Every car is an individual but we have had no trouble with ours. 74,000 miles Insurance $750 yr Maintenace is non exixtent the air filter is a 60,000 mile filter Oil is once a year the way I do it.The rear brakes wear early because of the cruise control but the front brakes are factory original.No repairs (yet). We paid 40158 new that is tax and everything but insurance. The car is nice but average as cars go. Average is good-lets say a Mercedes S-Class great Yogo bad for comparision.
