Yeah that really does suck. Especially considering the fact that Square Enix was able to fit both Dragon Quest Heroes games on one cartridge. Not sure why it’s difficult for others to do so. You might as well just get it digitally instead.

Daz Margrave - the whole point of this channel is to do thorough technical analysis of games/platforms, if you're looking for effusive praise, there's no shortage of Nintendo/console-centric RU-vid channels/review outlets out there. Their analysis is usually objective and fair, if it paints a poor picture of a game platform, that's not their fault.

TheBakedKid well it’s a balancing act. Games like resident evil revelations 1 & 2 would prob be fine at 900p. More complex current gen games might have to be 720p the question remains how low you’d have to go portable? I would hate to see 720p docked And 480p portable. But again you could prob disable a few special fx. Maybe turn off ao or reflections.

Why not 30fps? This game is not fast, and Doom works well.

What game studios should do is do different modes for games that can hit 60fps like they did for fire emblem warriors. You could do locked 30 with 1080p or maybe 900p 60fps etc. Maybe if they locked the frame rate to 30 in revelations 2 they could have squeezed some shadows or aa in.

Its not the switch fault, Capcom didn't really bother with the switch in general. Look at a 2005 game like RESIDENT EVIL 4. It runs at 900p docked and 600p portable mode with unstable framerate. A 2005 game. What a fucking joke.

Why would that comparison be relevant at this point? Those consoles were discontinued two and a half years ago. Compare them to show how much better this version is versus consoles launched in 2005-2006?

@@anotter_one actually the 360/ps3 version has the real-time shadows at least. so no they are better in some aspects.

@@anotter_one Because that's the original port of Revelations. Revelations 1 started on nintendo handheld and was brought to those old systems. Revelations 2 was then released directly to those systems. If they were able to handle those ports better, then you would have to ask why they couldn't handle the Switch version right and make it as smooth as possible.

@@anotter_one because it would be more interesting, i don't need a 13 minutes video explaining the cutbacks they made to run on switch we know its gonna look worse... Comparing the Vita and PS360 versions as well show the full picture, i first played Rev2 on 360, they made the Switch port look worse than it really is by comparing it only to PS4 imo, it looks close enough considering its running on a tablet and the other consoles aren't portable

The devs have stated it before.... If you need Digitial Foundry to look at it for you then you're making a big ass mistake. They use a dynamic resolution per stadium to keep FPS a locked and stable 60fps... There is drops, but that's only when you or the other team scores.

I beat it on the VITA, is not unplayable, and it's just about the at same framerates as the switch version which are very unstable but playable, both versions are mediocre TBH.

It was a very rushed port by a french studio that never ported a game before. If Armature or Bluepoint had ported it it would have been so much better.

KawlunDram As someone who has beaten it on the vita i can safely say you are right. It has moment of stability, but as seen as there is blood on the screen the thing crashes down to about 15 fps.

The vita could have run the game easily but sony being full of idiots decided to have an amateur team do the port..... And yet they wonder why the vita never sold

Ripan Dutta last time I checked, Nintendo themselves said the switch is actually a *Home Console* the only noticeable change between it and ps4, XBONE is that you can take it on the go whenever you want with no restrictions.

If Nintendo insists on calling the Switch a "hybrid home console", and third-parties are going to port games that are also on PS4/XB1, of course we're going to see comparison videos like this. I'm sure potential buyers want to know how faithful the Switch ports of games/if they're worth $30-60.

It's a hybrid, so of course it'll get compared. Besides, the gap isn't that far off. Switch is closer to Xbox One, so for it to be roughly close to the PS4 is impressive.

This isn't a game review though, DF doesn't do reviews, they do technical analysis, but even if they did, some technical commentary would no doubt be part of the review. Comparisons are inevitable as the Switch is going to get ports from other/more powerful platforms - would you rather reviewers not comment on resolution/performance at all and have people spend $60 of their hard-earned money on a subpar port?

Personally for these games on consoles, I'd rather play them on xbox/ps4 via remote play to my tablet/phone than on the switch (to pay extra for the sake of portability and no achievement/trophies and take a performance hit)

Yet, the bandwidth needed to actually get remote play to work seamlessly kills the portable aspect unless you live in an area that has FiOS level broadband everywhere and are willing to pay the extra cost for it. Remote play was never a good portable solution.

For outside yeah but I'm mainly talking about within the home environment. Let's say you play on your TV or monitor for a while and then play in the evening in bed or whatever, I do that and it's a great experience for me (and made certain games like P5 more viable for me to consume as the visual novel it is rather than just sit and the tv and read for ages, that game always felt like more of a portable title) outside isn't really an appealing prospect for me because I don't like the Switch's big form factor, I much prefer 3DS/PSP/Vita's product design over it (I recently dug out the PSP for Valkyria Chronicles 2 after 4 got announced, it's still a great portable experience). Playing on commute sounds appealing but in reality it's far and few for me, i've used my laptop for xbox play anywhere-based games, some steam games or failing that just read a kindle or whatever. Personally I want to get in on the switch in the future, but the current model is far too poor to be an attractive proposition (my bro-in-law has one that I've used on occasion) there's a lot of frustrating issues pertaining to the build quality/form factor/ergonomics and the limitations it brings regarding storage size etc. I think switch has potential to be good at some point (when Nin eventually iterate it like with the DSi etc) but this first version of it leaves A LOT to be desired...

It's not impressive at all, it's a cross gen PS3, PS4 game from 2015. Vita is 2012 $199 console and Switch was released 5 years later at $300

I play mostly handheld (as does most people with the Switch according to recent polls), so its not as noticeable.

AncientFury Nah, I turn options off all the time on games that allow it. Motion blur, anti-aliasing, ect. Sometimes it just looks better off than on. Just like turning off all that extra processing on your TV makes the picture look better. Same with games.

RE6 has the best controls and mobility in the series, the characters in revelations (2) feel slow and stiff in comparison.

From what I'm seeing in this video, I think the Switch version of Revelations 2 looks better than the PS4 version. They can keep their anti-aliasing. Give me sharper-looking textures over that any day.

I'd rather have the unlocked frame rate. For frame rate snobs (Like Digital Foundry) it bugs them. I havent seen jittering and the missing area loading issue. Honestly wouldn't surprise me that I likely have a better SD card than they do. Locking something like this at 30 would just kill gameplay

I agree that it's annoying, but can't you change the setting in Witcher 3? The Witcher 2 had the same issue (made worse by the high- and low-detail grass being different shades of green!), but it was easy to edit the config file and change the setting specifically affecting the grass. Or, just install a mod to automate the process. Unfortunately, my GTX 960 was already kept busy just running the game on high settings, so I couldn't afford to change anything!

Can you justify the price of a PS4, given that it is much older than the Switch? It's based off of Pitcairn from 2012. Switch is a hybrid of Maxwell/Pascal which is still current gen.

Yep because it's superior to the Switch in every way and for the same price. Plus Nintendo price gouges the hell out of gamers with it's accessories and games NEVER dropping in price.

Switch also comes with a screen, battery, speakers and 2 bluetooth controllers. :-/

It can be docked and was sold as a home console first so whatever criticism it gets is valid. The Tegra X1 is a good chip but Nintendo decided to kneecap it's performance.

Eh, AA is hit or miss for me. For example, AA was done poorly on Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
