What do you suggest for working with longer fusion clips? I'm producing a show with episodes ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours. There's tons of graphics throughout the entire show. Right now I'm using fusion inside Resolve and it's taking WAY too long to do anything. I'm caching, rendering in place, trying everything I know how to reduce rendering times. (I have a Ryzen 9, 2070 Super, 32GB ram, m.2)

What if I want to change the length of the initial VFX file. I can't seem to make it longer, even though in Fusion Studio there are more frames to work with.

Thx for this very clear tutorial!!! I now work between Davinci Resolve and Fusion 16 and am unable to pass alpha transparency from Fusion 16 back to Davinci Resolve where the transparency is replaced by solid black. I know that I am not alone with this problem and maybe you have the solution to the problem??? Thx again for your clear and logical tutorials and I look forward to more.

thank you, can you explain about "use source media in vfx connect clip"? I guess it was introduced after you posted this tutorial
@VFXstudy
@VFXstudy 3 года назад
Should just be using the media directly from disk rather than reencoding from the timeline. In case of RAW media that won't work since Fusion Studio doesn't support it. For ProRes it should work quite well.

@@VFXstudy I see. what's confusing is that the transcode options are not greyed out so was not really sure what happened. seems like an optimal option for anything other than raw.

When I create small clips (i.e. 4 seconds in duration) and use VFX connect, the EXR files are like 20 Gigs for a 4 second clip. I am shooting on BMPCC6K BRAW with a 6K timeline and understand the files are large. Once the clip is composited in Fusion and rendered, I refresh the clip in Resolve. Is the Resolve timeline then referencing only the Fusion comp? If so, do I need to still have the original RAW footage on the computer after the Fusion clip is rendered and refreshed in Resolve? My thoughts are to move the original BRAW files to an external hard drive at that point. Thoughts? I love your VFX course I purchased BTW.

If you don't plan on going back, and don't use it anywhere else, then I think you can move the source media. I think the edit page allows you to re open the clip before the Fusion comp, if I'm not mistaken. That would give you a media offline then. Reg. Size, think about compression. There is lossless compression in exr with zip, rle etc. Those will still be very large, but there are also the DWA codecs which is a high-end jpeg type codec for exr. Yes, they are technically lossy, but still extremely good for most productions

Is there a way to export the clips at original resolution, rather than the timeline resolution?
@VFXstudy
@VFXstudy 2 года назад
Haven't tried in a while. If you use it on a single clip, not on multiple, does it still take the timeline resolution? Or, if it's possible you might work with the original media. Though that won't work with raw media. Last option would be to decode manually and replace in Fusion Studio
@mattwolcott3266
@mattwolcott3266 2 года назад
@@VFXstudy Single clips still come in at the timeline resolution, yes. Reading in the manual, there seems to be a way to force Fusion to reference the original media. I’ll post back here if I figure out how. Thank you!

@@VFXstudy however, in your experience is working at 1080 usually sufficient even for keying work? I assumed full res would be better but there’s no denying that it taxes the computer far more than working in HD
@mattwolcott3266

It seems there is no option to do this. I've requested it as a feature

Whenever I export it as an uncompressed EXR to fusion, the color changes. I am in Davinci wide gamut under project settings with rec.709 gamma 2.4 output. How do I get it to look the same in fusion studio?
@VFXstudy
@VFXstudy 2 года назад
Check my video for Wide Gammut in Resolve. There are issues even in the Fusion tab of Reaolve. Fusion Studio does not have the Resolve Transforms and since DaVinci wide gamut is not available via OCIO, I don't think there's any solution for external software - even the one from BMD :(
