Beautiful and profound video. One of my largest gripes with the industry right now is that, in an effort to justify and bring up the quality of these “live action adaptions”, they are constantly forced to rely more and more on CGi animation. And ironically it not only always comes off as uncanny, but the most constant rebuke ends up being the entire thing should have been animated top to bottom. Financial gains aside, as an art form it’s a true failure to create these adaptions, shove tons of animation into them anyways to “recreate iconic moments”, and then still fail to be even remotely as impressive in artistry and creativity as the original hand-drawn media.
@sodathejunker
@sodathejunker Год назад
And let it be known, ARCANE and Spiderverse’s success was due to being embraced by people from all ages and walks of life. Those 2 CGi productions were juggernauts because rather than trying to simply adapt material into 3D, they tried completely unique styles, and relied HEAVILY on classic traditional animation techniques to breath life into all the characters and scenes. Techniques that are simply forgotten or even ignored in most Live action adaptions. A shame, when animators are always on the other end taking the best bits of live action film tricks and repurposing those ideas for their own use.

The biggest anime Studio that makes me Absolutely fall in love with animation and that is Kyoto Animation, the teams there make some of the most beautiful looking anime of all time like A Silent Voice, Violet Evergarden, and Clannad. These anime also have the most beautiful stories ever told in the animation medium, the characters, animation and story are all there in amazing form. recently Sousou no Frieren is the most recent example of what animation with amazing character writing and worldbuilding can be told in animation

I realize that i was wrong because i started my anime journey back in 2019 and fell in love with it every since. Now today with over 200+ anime's watch i will say to anyone please give it a try the amount of time's i invested was worth it. ps: stop watching live action it ruins the experience for any animated show.

I will recognize I am genuinely excited about ATLA live action and I know it's pure bias, when I was a kid I wasn't so aware of all of the things this video explains and when the love action movie was announced I was excited because I thought it was something really cool to watch... The result was nothing but disappointment. Now I think it's kind of a way to start over something that didn't go well at all and I've been following the production really close, so far everything seems promising from a perfect cast to the confirmation of new content addition. But don't get me wrong, none of this will take away the unnecessary nature behind it, I just decided to give it a chance and see if they can manage to do justice to a piece of media I love or even elevate it, or watch it miserably fail. At the end of the day, if they flop, the original will always be there, if they don't, then I'll have two versions to enjoy of one of the most awesome stories I've ever witnessed. As for the rest, I can't do more than agree with what you state here. We're definitely living in a golden age for animation and most of all anime and still it keeps on being overlooked for being what it is. The number of live action adaptations that failed miserably to be at least decent keeps indeed being superior. Hopefully one day which I want to believe is not so far away, animation will get an equivalent recognition to live action because, as you said, animation is capable of doing so many things a live action film or show will never do. As usual, great video, your content is unmatched ❤️

Awesome video! Really well done! Subscribed 👍 I like Live-Action stuff of course, but Animation is something else for me. It’s really special. What i love about Animation is that you can really do anything. It’s just this open medium where anything you can think of and anything you can create, you can make. Animation can convey things that Live-Action will never be capable of.

I'm a huge animation enthusiast, but I have also been guilty of being a little skeptical about anime. At first I was introduced to it when my older brother showed me some Studio Ghibli films, and then he showed me the first couple episodes of Violet Evergarden. Now I'm just getting into anime, and there are certainly a lot of stuff on my list that I need to watch.

My issue isn’t that these adaptations are bad, but the fact that they are seen as necessary by multi billion dollar companies to hit the mainstream. Animation is the best way to put an authors image to the screen with near 1-1 adaptations. And these adaptations only get recognized by fans when they are faithful, but then what’s the point??
@nelisezpasce
@nelisezpasce Год назад
That's a good question. Like the guy who played live action Spike Spiegel in Netflix's Bebop apparently seemed very enthusiastic about his gig and did the best he could, but the higher ups probably just wanted to do it out of spite. Imagine that, people with so much money that their new hobby is fucking with their friends/enemies/rivals' favorite properties. They definitely exist, although they should still be outliers. Most executives want to make money, but they could be so out of touch that charlatans can easily convince them that bad ideas are actually brilliant. If 99% of the people involved actually cared then it would be much harder to fuck it up (but still very possible). One of the hardest pills to swallow is that even if you try your best, no matter how much effort you put into something, sometimes it's just not enough. Let's try to acknowledge an attempt was made when it still missed the mark. When done with malicious intent: Ignore and move on.

You're absolutely correct. I don't think I've ever been fully satisfied with a live action remake. As you said, in animation very shot is beautiful. One thing that I truly love about animation is the fact that the characters are unique. I get so tired seeing the same Hollywood faces over and over especially when they put them in these live action remakes, in rolls they totally don't suit just because they're famous

holy shit I agree with almost everything you said, Vinland saga is my favorite story in Literature History, it has changed so much about me (i didn't change and goo full Viking BTW not what I mean) like how it told me that I have no enemies, because one simply don't, its only an illusion that can be fixed if talked to, or the fact that people can change with (SPOILER FOR A FEW WORDS) like how thorfinn went from Murderer, to a pacifist wanting war to stop, going as far as to moving to Vinland, just to make a colony where weapons/fighting where forbidden, (SPOILER OVER) and it just so good, from what its trying to say, to the story, to the art (if manga), to the animation (anime only). I really want Vinland saga to blow up, but sadly that wont happen due to how much the next season is gonna change it, from ruthless action driven, to a beautiful story that's character driven that almost no show can compare in, with few exemptions, like berserk, which has both (bad animation sadly tho). but still, some of the best stories every created. even AOT, which I have my dislikes to, I love, for multiple reasons, like (external) how both the author of Vinland and AOT took inspirations from each other due to the authors being good friends with very similar world views, or like how characters reflect on their choices, and how much the the theme of freedom, and sacrifice is portrayed,

Film are also an art, and i don't think it's fair to treat it that way, there's no art better than another, just differents things loved by different persons, and i agree on the fact that a lot of remake of anime or others animations in film are awfull, but that's mostly because the people who do these are not fan, they just pick things to do money, and they don't do it right, in the end the remake feel insulting

It will be interesting on your note about Attack on titan, given just how badly they botched the ending, if it will have a negative impact on the views of animation in the west once this highly consumed story gets concluded in the least satisfying and nonsensical way. Game of Thrones has done extreme damage to the expected investment that you should have in a tv series these days, given just how badly they managed to botch their ending, so it will be interesting to see once they finally fininish the series.
@OneWithinn
@OneWithinn Год назад
They really didn't botch the ending no where as close as GoT. Redicilous comparison Imo. Writing a completely satisfying ending for a show like AoT was never possible.
@daniaaal
@daniaaal Год назад
@@OneWithinn Agreed. If one actually pays attention to the themes presented in AOT, then the ending makes sense as to why it is a tragedy. The best works of literature don't necessarily have a happy ending, much like Lord Of The Rings (what happened with Frodo afterwards) and Romeo and Juliet. The best stories are those that allow the audience to remember lessons learnt from it, not necessarily to satisfy the audiences wants. AOT is appreciated most by mature audiences who know that stories can be reflections about real life. And not everything about real life is a happy ending.
@bigcnmmerb0873
@bigcnmmerb0873 Год назад
You not liking an ending doesn’t mean that AOT or the entirety of anime is rubbish, if that’s your logic then all of western media is garbage because the Avatar live action was the biggest pile of dog shit therefore every live action movie is trash. See how stupid that sounds
@bigcnmmerb0873
@bigcnmmerb0873 Год назад
Also a story ending badly doesn’t mean it’s botched, not every story is a happy ending, reality has to be portrayed everything ending with a happy note isn’t realistic in the slightest, if anything that just makes live action very fake, and AOT ending being more realistic.

If we have people passionate about the stories, we get proper live action. To be honest, I want to like live action, I really do, but unfortunately the producers behind said live action have cash-grabby tendencies (this character is cool, put it; this storyline was banger, add it; they surely want to see this technique and want to see it go bing-bang-boom, put it and pack in CG like crazy). You need people who understand the story, their characters, their themes, the vision of the artists, their way of structuring the story, and a possible future progression of the stories if the authors wanted to continue the storylines after the initial run of their story. Why was Civil war awesome, it is from a Comic book, same with the Boys, Scott Pilgrim vs the world, and others - it wasn't just about the spectacle and the key moments, they all had rock-solid plots and people with a goddamn vision and understanding of the whole thing. FVCK the Execs, because of them we can't often have good stuff.

Can we stop lumping the 2019 Lion King movie into the live action category please? Because despite it's very realistic look, its also an animated movie... By the way, I'm not defending the movie, I've never seen it and I think it's a pointless endeavour to remake The Lion King to begin with, but I can apreciate the fact that it's so realistic that people think it's live action, despite being a movie about talking animals.
