That Protos Roble wine is a classic among cheap decent reds in Spain. Luckily David didn't choose beer because with the fabada stew he would supply gas to Europe this winter.

There's a menu del dia a few kms outside of Carballo, Galicia that is very popular with the workers and pretty much everyone else. Prices are reasonable, big variety and good quality food. It's on the road to goes to La Coruña.

The rule of thumb says not to order pork or tuna if they come with sauce and even lessover so if the sauce has a strong flavor. if the menu says "homemade flan" and not "egg flan", then it's ok and probably the arroz con leche too. These people serve to a lot of customers a day at the the same pautated times and offer the best they can at the cheapest price with a smile and no tips.

Fact... The US obesity prevalence was 41.9% in 2017 - March 2020. (NHANES, 2021) From 1999 -2000 through 2017 -March 2020, US obesity prevalence increased from 30.5% to 41.9%. During the same time, the prevalence of severe obesity increased from 4.7% to 9.2%.... Thats what big portions can do to you... Everything in moderation... Tony cuenca

I noticed that when you booked the table you didn't say who you were. How does that work? When you get to the restaurant how do they know its you and not someone else who also booked a table for two?

@@craphead9842 Thanks. I was curious because I don't have a cell phone and I thought that maybe its become common to use the caller's phone number as their ID. In this case the fact that he was booking a table for 1PM was probably sufficient information because the restaurant was likely to be empty at that time, which it was.

Enjoying this series on menu del dia, in my area in Almeria we can still get reasonably priced menu del dia. The venues are not always in great locations but good value.

Are there lunch menus without alcoholic drinks included or are there 2 options, one with and a cheaper one without? I don´t drink alcohol during daytime because it makes me tired. Also I don´t like wine and prefer beer (in the evening).

Hi Stu, another interesting menu del dia vid. I thought that this meal was average but ok for the price. The fadaba looked good & so did your main dish, even though the chips were the frozen variety. The best looking main dish for me so far has been that lamb shank that you had. I look forward to more of these vids.

We have a dish here Ham Hocks and Lima Beans it is mostly a southern dish, my mother was southern she made that with home made corn bread yummy!!

Nice review. Estuart, your food looked better. They actually fried your "fries" nicely. Usually, they're undercooked, in my experience. Avoid chicken in Spain. Sometimes there's an extra charge for some entrees, which is worth it (octopus for example). That was a great value. Pork and seafood seem a better value.

We always tip. Atracon in Loja menu del dia is very good value 11.70 euros. I meal could be shared between 2 xx

I have to say even after 14 years here I find Spanish cuisine rather underwhelming, I never once sit at home thinking ooh I really fancy going to a Spanish restaurant tonight but I do often find myself urging for Thai Italian Chinese Indian and sometimes a British carvery or even fish and chips. On top of that apart from the menu del dias quite often I think Spanish food is quite expensive for what it is and why do they always serve you just meat and chips or some other kind of potato what happened to a serving of vegetables? and when you ask you have to order a plate of vegetables separate which costs an extra 9€ or so! Spain isn't a country which I am impressed with when it comes to food.

Great video, but all I can say is what a couple of mean bastards you were. Just 22 euros, I would have rounded that up to 25. Don't go back there or the service may not be so good.

These are big portions, way too much for me! I would skip the starter and so eat for about 8 euros and that is really cheap!

My wife and I give a tip if the service was good. If you know the restaurant owners and they upgrade your dish with some extra ingredients or other ways to make you feel spoilt a bit. That's when you should tip. Especially if the restaurant owners has to work two jobs. If the place is pricy and does not include drinks in the menu (a horrible trend) then you don't feel a tip is needed. In an industrial area people just need decent food and not so much the experience. Different in a rural area - I remember the comedores in the Canary Islands in the old days - that was excellent. I also remember the buffet restaurants there - those were amazing too. It's a thing of the past though. Cheers !

Protos wine is a nice wine for lunch and dinner being a rubuero del duero and a bottle is better , please say thank you with a tip, you mean pair.22e for two is very reasonable .i have lived in the canaries for twenty years and though the views on industrial estates are not the best I found the staff the most hospitable.best wishes and kindest regards,Charles Timothy.

Here in Andalucia , if I order a drink I also get a small plate of food, -- a "Tapa" or lid. Originally I believe, a slice of bread to keep the flies off. Another drink begets another tapa. Probably even more encouraging. We only pay for the drink. I think city folk are being taken for a ride.

In some countries/restaurants, the cashier types in the amount to pay in the card terminal. Then the customer has to type inn the amount he/she wants to pay (must be at least as much as the bill) before swiping the card. This allows for paying tips even with credit cards. [Often, inexperienced users think they are supposed to provide the pin code... There is a security built into the system so that the user is blocked if the "amount" is unreasonably high... If the bill is €25 and you type in pin code 9999 instead of bill+tips, the payment is stopped. Anyways, it is probably safest to have a pin code 0000 to avoid such mistakes...] I'm surprised such card terminals have not become widespread in Spain.

I always tip minimum 20% on a meal and 10% on a coffee .

Ask the staff can they keep the tips, most establishments consider it steeling ,the tips are for the company! Not the waiters.

Really? Didn't know that. Back in the 90's, I'd tip bartenders and usually get several free drinks. Now, I usually drink at restaurants, so no, or just loose change for a tip.
