That's correct, it was made in Japan; I think this model was also made in Belgium. These days, practically all Cat excavators for North America/Asia/Oceania are made in Japan, and they're designed there too. Thanks for being a fan!
In some cases that's the right choice, in others you'd be costing yourself substantially - depends on the machine. Having owned this one from new, knowing the service history and that it's never been overworked, has no mechanical issues and only 6,000 total hours on the clock, it was an easy decision to give it a tidy up.
