Restoring the Porsche 911 Door Sills 

I wanted the paint job to be limited to the repair area, hence blended into the existing paint. Known as spot repair, this has become a state-of-the-art technique over the past years. In order for this to be a success, it’s essential that you have a full colour match which is very difficult to achieve at home. The paint needs to be thoroughly adjusted to the surrounding which requires more experience than I have and reluctantly I therefore gave the car to the paint shop for the final coats.

I’m not exactly sure about what I found here. As a late 76 model year, this car belongs to the first series that was partly zinc-coated by Porsche. I can still find sound zinc coated panels everywhere I do repairs. If you look at the paint layers revealed at 3:20, it appears you can see two paint jobs: the second one which I’m aware of as it took place during my ownership and below that, obviously, the original one. Can it therefore be that the short MAG weld bead at 1:20 is the original one made by the factory? I believe that the factory used hard soldering at this spot earlier on in the sixties and seventies and I believe it’s the better way to deal with it. Maybe they changed this when they started zinc-coating? Looking forward to your comments. Please feel free to answer in German language. We eventually used hard soldering to do the repair, as its lower temperature would burn less paint and zinc.

I must say, you are not a mechanic,you are not a technician, what you are is a craftsman! I don’t get impressed easily however generally everything you touch I’m impressed with. I am very mechanically inclined but I am not 1/10 of what you are I admire your patience and attention to detail augmented by your knowledge of whatever you’re doing keep up the good work by the way I have a 1984 911 TARGA very happy with it but I could never bring it to the level that you do you do .Maybe one day I’ll get to Europe and you your work in person who knows.

Is it for anti-rust to spray oil into the sill?

Did the factory use any filler anywhere up to '98?

Welchen Steinschlag Schutz benutzt du hier?

Should of had them do your drivers door also, it does not match.

And that area isn't welded becaaaaaaause?????
