its weird to see Putin not being able to understand that he is giving NATO and Western military establishments a priceless gift: a real-time opportunity to test their latest weapons, weapons-systems and combat tactics, at no cost. Plus, the Ukranians are smart enough, and motivated enough, to put everything into practice, and to provide real-time feedback. This situation could not be fully replicated in any training context - how good is that! Unless Putin pulls the plug on this adventure now his military will be so strategically and tactically degraded that it will no longer exist as a viable military force for decades to come, if ever. Their incompetence is extraordinary.

Agree except for one thing: the Ukrainian troops are already a modern professional army. My country, Canada, has spent 8 years in Ukraine training their soldiers up to NATO standards, including paradigm shifts like "mission command." (I know people think Canadians are too nice to br ferocious warriors, but Canadians totally change when on the hockey rink or battlefield. And Canada focuses on quality rather than quantity so it can punch above its weight. For example, look at the top five snipers: four are Canadian including the top spot.) Anyway, we trained 33,000 Ukrainian troops over 8 years with NATO know-how and Canuck scrappiness. And our US and UK allies also trained Ukrainian troops for less time but for a total of 22,000 soldiers. And they taught them their own strengths. So Ukrainian troops have been taught by the best in the world, NATO being the culmination of all 30 (soon 32, hopefully 33--Sweden, Finland and Ukraine) of the world's strongest nations have to offer. Maybe Ukrainian soldiers need to learn how to use new technology, but that's short-term, they've already done all the long term work, and they've proven very capable at learning quickly.

We're the ones who have lost their relationship with reality. We are treating the real possibility of a nuclear holocaust like it's a joke.

I don't think he's lost touch with reality. He has just played himself into a reality where he has two options. Forward or die. He ofcourse can't accept that he should infact pick the latter option.

The gradual delivering of weapons is useful as it reduces weapons stockpiles that can be targeted, but doesn't reduce capability. Basically a out of country ammo dump of unlimited size at their disposal.
