Do you think modern institutions built to follow the Ellis Island model would help solve the immigration problem?

I believe it possibly could help with the right people working there and it with all the technology you could find out faster who has records or other issues.

I think Ellis island is a very good reminder for us as history and more so for the families or their following generations, aware of all the goods though also chaotic conditions…. Worth it nevertheless… so yes we should think of Ellis Island plus multiple strategic points to organize at best, for the immigrants and for the American people … my vision only🇫🇷🇺🇸

Does America have the same needs and desires it had 150 years ago as it has today? Would that model be sustainable in the long run? We absolutely can't use the past as a basis for what we can do today on this topic. Back in the day there was probably 1 person to every 100 today trying to enter the country. That is 1% the amount of people.

The difference between how Chris Cuomo used his firing from CNN for self-reflection and a time of re-thinking and how Don Lemon seems to have done nothing of the sort is wild to see in real-time. I don't agree with you on much Chris, but this new version is far better, IMHO! Keep it up.

Wait but you said the reasons it’s a bad bill, it included funding to Ukraine, and ALOT of funding to Ukraine. And wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t a immigration bill like it was framed, it was a Ukraine funding bill with an immigration title.

Ellis Island stands as an enduring symbol of hope, opportunity, and the complexities of immigration in American history, showcasing both its positive and negative aspects. On the positive side, Ellis Island served as the gateway to the American dream for millions of immigrants seeking a better life. It offered a beacon of hope, promising freedom, prosperity, and the chance to build a new beginning in the land of opportunity. For many, arriving at Ellis Island marked the end of arduous journeys across oceans, fleeing persecution, poverty, or seeking refuge from political turmoil. Upon arrival, immigrants were processed, examined for health and legal eligibility, and given the opportunity to begin anew in the United States. Moreover, Ellis Island fostered cultural diversity and enriched the American tapestry. Immigrants brought with them a wealth of traditions, languages, and customs, contributing to the vibrant mosaic of American society. From the bustling streets of New York City to the heartland of America, the influence of Ellis Island immigrants can be seen in every facet of American life, from cuisine to art, music to literature. However, Ellis Island's history also bears the scars of discrimination, hardship, and injustice. Despite the promise of freedom, not all immigrants were welcomed with open arms. Discrimination based on nationality, race, and religion often tainted the immigration process. Certain groups faced harsh scrutiny, exclusion, and even deportation, reflecting the darker realities of American immigration policy. Furthermore, the conditions at Ellis Island were far from ideal. Overcrowded and unsanitary conditions led to the spread of disease, suffering, and even death among immigrants awaiting processing. Families were separated, dreams shattered, and futures uncertain as they navigated the bureaucratic hurdles of entry into the United States. In conclusion, Ellis Island embodies the complexities of the immigrant experience in America, showcasing both the promise of opportunity and the challenges of discrimination and hardship. While it stands as a testament to the resilience and diversity of the American spirit, it also serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for equality, justice, and inclusion in the immigration process.

I am a highly educated Baby Boomer who has been disgusted with American TV “news” for decades. Haven’t watched it in years for all the reasons News Nation was created. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I try to catch you every day and truly adore the spillover discussions between you and Abrams at the end of your show and the beginning of his. Ditto your guest interviews. Your charge-neutral manner and your willingness to own your well thought-out decisions warms my heart, even if/when I disagree with you. The ONLY thing I don’t like is allowing some of your guests to talk over each other, bullying with volume. The content always suffers, and I only put up with it long enough to find my remote. How come this happens? When it’s one person is making a point, turn off the other’s mic until it’s time to change. Duh! Warn them both that you are going to let them know when they must let the other respond - that they have no more than one minute to finish a point when that happens. Then turn off their mic until it’s time to switch again. No filibustering. (Sure wish the so-called political “debate” moderators would do the same). Can’t stand snarky brawling so won’t watch. No real info in that format anymore anyway. Ending on a positive note, I love everything else. God bless your producers.

We can train some for the military to assist at the border. Their is so much can be done...instead of Fn fighting...just do it & get to work! Hope it helps.

19:30 It's not about people not desiring trade careers, it's about that most well paying jobs require a degree. I do think that needs to change because there is value in trade school and careers. My grandparents are perfect examples of that argument, but again, times are different. Quality jobs don't want to recognize trade diplomas, certificates, and now you're even seeing this BS attitude toward associate's degrees.

When applying for a visa, a lot of paperwork is required, such as birth certificates, parents's addresses, our own for 10 years, any employment contracts or acceptance letters by universities or spouse's income taxes and receipts of paid fees. This is already submitted to the embassies or USCIS and they need at least a week (or several) to go through all this. Then add interviews and any need to check validity and criminal records. This thus, can't be done on the spot. When it comes to crimes, the stress and for example the wait for a social security number, can make people fall between the cracks. ... I like Eisenhower! My suggestion is, to work more together with the UN and find a global consensus built on the individual's right to choose where to pursue a better life.

You mentioned Ellis Island before. Anytime humans are in charged, prejudices and hatreds raise their ugly heads. However, I think the Ellis Island model is a lot more effective, and, in the long run, financially feasible. Might cost a lot to install in the beginning but it will eventually smooth out and save us more money than ineffective walls or fences. Thank you for attacking problems head-on. I believe you’re helping people make sense of “the game”.

Although I don’t think Vienna is such a bad place to be right now… I do with agree with everything you said, and I hope we can get this all worked out somehow in a humane way. Let Texas try to fix it for now. I’ll be anxious to see how that’s going to work out! 😊 Great vlog, Chris!

Today, vast majority of asylum seekers don't have legitimate claim. they are coming for economic reason. also since they walked and/or came from different countries in South America, if they were only legitimate fleeing from political persecution, they could have stayed in other countries outside their own country or contiguous country from where they fled from, instead of going all the way up to USA.

Chris Cuomo is, was, always top-shelf in his encyclopedic knowledge of the events and their history, as well as quickness and agility in asking hard, often piercing questions. CNN lost its heart. Todays cast is, at best, luke-warm -- not a step backwards, but ten. Kaitlyn et al barely ask questions, and then anything said in reply is okay, no real argument; played soft and lite-- just filin' time, getting through the hour. Not like Chris or Don, who were better informed and biting. It was much harder news. I've never seen her go after anybody, about anything. Dogged, not. Maybe she's a cat. But her placement atop CNN is due to CNN swing right politically. I guess no one's gonna call them fake news now that they are: two sides to every story, don't you know? Losing Chris Cuomo and Don was a huge mistake, not covered well by anyone, especially not the new CEO from BCC America. Tell Kaitlyn, she could still try to get to the bottom of it. I have my doubts...

Ellis island was never come on come all. Entire boats of people were turned back to where they came from. The US has no historical or logical obligation to the rest of the world. We have every right to scrutinize and set qualifications for entry, and nothing about our origins or history changes that. The problem is that these people are here, not how hard it is on THEM.

you claim to use logic and common sense but there is no comparison to the United States today and back in the days of Ellis Island. Open land, cheap land, opportunity in factories, farming etc......The United States was growing and immigrants were necessary. There was no welfare, social security, Obama Care and other government and social programs. To compare modern day illegal immigration with what happened back then is laughable
