Your channel is incredible! Thank you for what you do! I’m currently transitioning out from the Coast Guard, and was highly considering Florida for the longest time but just recently made a major push for Madison MS!!
Thank you! Madison has been really popular spot for our relocation clients. Great cost of living, everything you need right there, and a very well-kept and well-managed city. When do you think you’ll be able to actually make that move? We would love to help when you do!
@@OnyxBerrios Break it out! Call or text 601.292.6070 and email is info@livinginjackson.com. Even if you're a little farther out on the move, reach out whenever you like and we can set up a zoom call to answer questions you may have and make sure when you get ready we've got all the ducks in a row.
Thank you for leaving a comment! I have a good friend who I from Pascagoula. I also can’t hear Pascagoula without thinking about “the Mississippi Squirrel Revival” 😂
We moved from Northern California Silicon Valley to the greater Jackson area 3 years ago. (And we are originally from South Florida. Go Panthers!) Jared and Charles (Lacey) helped us to find a wonderful home in the suburbs, and we’ve been happy here. Thanks, Jared and Charles! 👍🏻
Jackson is close enough to go to Florida for a nice weekend get away, taxes and insurance here are much cheaper. And the houses are as nice but cheaper.....believe me I wanted to move to Florida but decided to stay right here in Bridgepointe at the Reservoir..just gonna put in a pool and stay here in retirement.
Bridgepointe is a nice place to be too. I can’t imagine what something similar would cost in Florida, especially factoring in taxes and insurance. Let me know when the pool is ready so I can stop by and get out of the heat
Biloxi is nice, and the beach is a lot better than everyone acts like it is. It’s not a white sandy Caribbean beach, but it’s not bad. Come visit the Jackson area some time!
I'm pleasantly surprised that the comments aren't full of comments about the crime in Jackson. I've lived in Jackson specifically for 39 years. People always ask "do you want to move?" NO ... Anything i want to do is within 40 min or a 3 hour road trip for concerts in New Orleans or Memphis.
Kentucky and Mississippi were on our short list for retirement. Visited both states frequently to make decision. At the end of the day, Kentucky won us over because of the extreme weather now with climate change. Trying to get out of Austin because of the six months of the year that you can not leave air conditioning. Miserable here with the overcrowding, constant hail storms, tornadoes and EXTREME heat. It’s just a matter of time before insurance companies pull out of Mississippi like they did in Florida. Give me four stable seasons. One man’s opinion.
Hate we lost out but Kentucky is nice too. A little colder/snowier in the winter than I care for but not too bad. When you get ready to move to Kentucky, I have a business partner who is an agent up there and I also have a really good one in Austin too if you need to sell a house. I'd love to help out, even if I can't convince you that Mississippi is better. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!
I planned to move from IN to FL. But this has me contemplating MS. Did Jackson get their water issue worked out? And being the poorest state in the union and population dwindling do you still think it's a good idea as a senior to move there? I appreciate your videos and working my way through them.
I love helping more people realize the opportunity that is here! As someone else mentioned, all the suburbs do have their own water systems that weren't impacted by what you saw in the news about Jackson. In the City of Jackson, they have what is more or less a patch on it while they work out a longer term solution, but as of now water is flowing and drinkable within the city. I made a video a while back about the population decline. While its true that the state as a whole has seen some decline, the metro area, specifically the suburbs, have seen pretty impressive growth. This is evidenced by the countless new commercial and residential developments currently underway in places like Madison, Flowood and Gluckstadt. I truly believe it really is an incredible place for seniors/retirees. The Jackson metro is the medical hub of the state, cost of living is low and there are tons of shopping, amenities, outdoors, and warm weather.
@LivingInJackson Thanks for great feedback. I've been to Biloxi and didn't seem overly heavy traffic wise. I'll be a snowbird at Destin, FL again this Winter. Maybe I will be able to do more research on where to look. Hattiesburg maybe. A lake house would be the ticket.
Florida has no state income tax,if Mississippi would repeal it's state income tax,it would take off. Maybe open up a few new casinos to offset those tax revenue losses.
Its been in the discussion for a few years to get rid of it. Retirement income isn't taxed and we have a lot of people relocate here for retirement, but it would be nice to eliminate the state income tax all together
I don't. Picayune is about 2.5 hours from me here in Jackson. I have been considering adding a partner to the channel to create more content about the MS gulf coast region.
Jackson does have some well documented crime issues, but it’s not the entire city. There are some wlbt articles that show that the majority of violent crime is concentrated within a couple wards of the city of Jackson. Most of the suburbs have very low crime rates and very little violent crime of any.
Florida is turning into Southern California, and it’s very concerning. I’ve been to south Florida several times, and it seems to me there’s no middle class there. And the homeless is becoming a problem as well. I believe in the next decade or 2, when a lot of that land fills up, housing prices will be as bad as Orange County and Santa Monica.
If you go look at the tornado history. The major ones that do serious damage are rare. They happen, but it’s rare. You see smaller ones that will do minor damage to roofs or trees a little more commonly, but it’s very localized. Our local news is on top of it too any time there is even a chance, showing you exactly where it is or could be. I will say here in the Jackson Metro, they seem to happen much more frequently in the southern part of the delta to our northwest, and down south of here towards Hattiesburg.
They do, and I meant to mention that. But tornadoes don’t do damage on the scale of a hurricane. They are also very localized. If you are unlucky enough to get in the path of a bad one it can be really bad, but odds are in your favor. I did another video about that on the channel. If you live in Florida or on the coast, hurricanes are going to be unavoidable for a large swath of land. I guess at the end of the day it’s whichever risk you’re more comfortable with. Also, I can fly anywhere from the Jackson airport. Most will have to connect somewhere, but there are several direct flights as well. I did another video on the channel about that too a while back. Thanks for the comment! Do you live in MS, FL, or are you moving to one?
I grew up in Louisiana and lived in Mississippi for a while. No offense, but I prefer Florida. Watching kids swim in the pool two days before Thanksgiving.
I actually work with some partner agents for a Memphis area too (moving to Memphis). I can get you covered anywhere in MS or on the TN side of the line in The Memphis area when you get ready to come home!
Hadn't considered until your video. Our primary concern (we live in FL) is the poisonous politics. Tired of angry mean people. Our son is gay; would your area be safe for him?
I think Florida has a little more of that because of the massive portion of the population that is from various other parts of the country. Mississippi is definitely a red state and there is less of a challenge to that here. I can’t really speak to the experience your son would have, but I’d find it hard to believe he would be mistreated here. I have friends that are gay, and I’ve worked with a lot of clients that were as well, and I never hear of anything bad happening. I’m sure there are bad apples everywhere, but contrary to how most people think of Mississippi, people are generally very loving and accepting. It’s more, you live how you want, and I’ll live how I want, when it comes to things like that.
There is a lot more to do here than most people realize. Sure a lot of the state is rural with very little to do, but here in the Jackson metro, and in the other more populated areas, it’s got most of what you’d expect. Shopping, entertainment, recreation. Have you been or do you live in MS?
