Flag Raising and Lowering Bugle Ceremony. Retreat and To the Colors 🇺🇸 Video audio made with proper Bugle echo, sounds exactly how it would saluting the raising or lowering of the United States Flag. Trump 2020
The last time I heard this was at Ft. Hood, TX. My retirement papers were in hand, and I got stopped in front of 1st Cav Division Headquarters. I exited my vehicle, turned, and saluted the flag, and then I knew, its all over! My Army service was done after 21 years. Brought a tear to my eye. AIRCAV for LIFE!!! HHC 3/227th AHB, 1ST AIR CAV, 1st CAV DIV 2010-2114!!! I'd go back to Afghanistan with y'all ANY DAY!!! Spearhead two-three November signing OFF. OUT!!!
x101st-THANK YOU FOR OVER THE 20 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THIS COUNTRY! YOU ARE THE TRUE DEFINITION OF A SOLDIER! GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY, MILITARY FAMILY AND PERSONAL FAMILY!
Thank you for your service, and God bless you. Though unfortunately I don't think you will be able to do anything in Afghanistan seeing the events of the last few days
How the memories of your service must make you feel. All that came with it, good and bad. Coming from a guy that didn't join and can only imagine how awesome and horrifying those memories could be. In imagination I still would not have a clue about the experience. All I can say is thank you for all that you have done to keep us ignorant of the realities of the world that most Americans never have to live with.
That hurry up and get indoors, or you’ll be stuck outside. I remember just making it in the door when song started while the battles didn’t make it. Time of the past is not forgotten
@@S1D3W1ND3R015 We weren't disrespectful. Most of us just had to deal with this crap every day and all we wanted to do was get back to the barracks/home and relax for a little bit. That doesn't mean that we were not patriotic though. I like many my of brothers in uniform would have gone out of our way to defend the flag.
I happened to be visiting West Point walking across a parade field when Retreat began. I'd been out for many years, yet immediately went to parade rest, attention and Salute. I realized at that point how much I missed the ARMY and how much I loved our Nation.
@@codybuckler6027 not if your a morning person. My grandparents lived near a base and at 7 am they would play to wake the soldiers and me and my gramps would salute, same towards the other bugles
My dad was in the army. Us kids grew up on military bases. I remember fondly how at 5 pm when the trumpet sounded the Retreat, people would pull over to the curb, get out of the car and salute. I miss that so much. Fort Sill has a special place in my heart.
U.S. Army, 11B Infantry, I was in Fort Benning Georgia the last time I heard this and it gives me the chills! I always loved waiting outside with all of my fellow battles for this to come on.
I went to Texas A&M. Accepted into, what is now called, the platoon leadership program. I took the Oath. Then, the problem arose. My eyesight. Best 4 1/2 months of experiences and comeradery. Never made it to the USMC. Not for lack of trying. Thank all you men, for doing what I needed to do, but couldn't. This bugle brings it all back.
I'm in Japan now, I do miss this combo... It gives me goosebumps. Here, the installation plays: Retreat-> Japanese National Anthem-> US National Anthem. It's a long salute for the anthems, but it's better to respect these people than to hide indoors or in my car.
Never served, but both parents served, and my LIFE is full of these moments standing on the base being told to stand still and salute 😢 childhood times man...
I pulled 24 hour Staff Duty many times at post headquarters in Korea, and Stateside, and had to play the recordings for Reville, Retreat, To The Colors, and Taps. I've been retired more than 25 years, but I still salute when I hear them.
I never thought I would miss hearing this everyday and having been part of the detail that raised and lowered the flag in my unit, especially where America is today never thought I would miss this...
I worked on an Air Force Base as a civilian for a year and a half. I didn't know that hearing this would bring so many memories flooding back. Best part of my day
So I grew up as a brat and worked around the military folks for a while as an adult. I lived right across the street from one of the worlds biggest bases and would hear this regularly (perhaps daily lol) for the last 2 years. Just moved away for my dream job a few months ago and for some reason I hear this around sunset every so often. In a non-military area so it's definitely all in my head.
Retired in 08 miss it bad will never admit it to my wife i think she misses it more than I Too all my brother's and sisters love you stay strong. Go Army
I served in the Army in the 1990s and spent most of my enlistment at Ft. Irwin... but now I work near an Air Guard base and every day at 4pm (when I happen to get out of work) they play retreat and the national anthem. There's nothing wrong with that but it feels a little weird and I prefer retreat and to the colors, so sometimes when they play retreat, I'll instinctively start whistling To the colors as I'm driving away...
I remember my very 1st Command Retreat, at the Start of Basic Training at Ft Mcellan, AL. Rendering my first Hand Salute. THen subsequently at Ft Ord, Ft Bliss, and then at Conn or Ledward Baracks. I always the last to get on the intra barracks shuttle. SO I could stand outside and render the hand salute for the bus. I felt privliaged and honored every time Retreat was sounded. Serving may times on Flag detail. That was a tremendous honor to serve. 🙂
To do it properly you need the cannon that’s fired between the two calls. As an Army MP I used to fire the cannon during both Reveille in the morning and Retreat during the evenings. Was one of my favorite duties.
went to Ft. Sill over the summer from May - July for BCT. Every day when shit sucked and was hittin the fan and 1700 struck, when I was saluting I would have a thought pop up in my mind every time that this was for a reason and had an end goal. Excited to pursue my military career
I remember walking back from the clothing and sales at PanzerKaserne knowing the following morning I would be flying home for the final time. I heard retreat and to the colors and I stopped, saluted and the 5 years of service went through my head, all the memories, the pain, the stress, the promotions, the friends and soldiers I influenced... my uniform. When That theme ended, I stood there and realized it's all over. SGT. HERNANDEZ 554th
I'm old enough to remember this from summer camp as a boy scout in a drum and bugle corps at Treasure Island, Philadelphia Council. Brings a tingle. Sad that our current youth won't recognize it.
Actually, youth programs like the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program require cadets to know these songs to render proper customs and courtesies as outlined in CAPP-151, Respect on Display
If you play it for anyone born after 2000, the MIGHT BE ABLE to tell you that it's a MILITARY THING but, that's all they will know. They have NO CLUE AS TO WHY IT'S PLAYED, WHEN IT'S PLAYED, WHAT IT STANDS FOR WHERE IT CAN BE HEARD EVERY SINGLE MORNING LIKE CLOCKWORK.
@@macesports, yeah, I look back at my time in the Navy and have very fond memories of it all. I remember in BOOT CAMP the bullshit that we went through learning how to fold T-shirts, socks, skivies, etc. I thought to myself WHAT A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME! Had I stayed in the Navy, I would be celebrating my 45th year I there. I would have been one of those OLD MASTER CHIEFS WHO JUST SAT AROUND AND DIDN'T DO ANYTHING BUT EAT AND SLEEP! But, when I was in, the regulations mandated that you MUST RETIRE at the age of 55. IDK if it's still the same or not. I discharged the Friday after Thanksgiving 1978. Back then, the RE-UP BONUS was only $500. There were TONS of young MEN who were waiting to get into the service and RE-UPPING wasn't as popular then as it is now. After I had been a civilian for about a month, I wanted to get back in the Navy. I went to the recruiting center where my ORIGINAL recruiter was still pulling his duty there. He made a few phone calls and sent a couple of letters but, long story short, I had been HONORABLY DISCHARGED and the USN said thanks for your interest but there were way too many people ahead of me! I could have gotten back in but, I would have lost my rate and rank(CS3) and would have had to do a mini boot camp as they called it plus wait another 4 1/2 months. Where did you go to boot camp and when? I was in San Diego but that one closed YEARS AGO. I think the only one that is left is Great Lakes but I am not sure. I spent ALL of 1976-1978 on the same ship stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. A dream come true for me! BTW, I STILL FOLD MY T-SHIRTS THE SAME EXACT WAY 45 YEARS LATER!!
I was a bugler in Scouts and then in military school. I still play bugle for flag ceremonies and funerals. I know the servicemen understand but someday I hope the scouts will understand and miss those late afternoon color ceremonies.
That's so cool. I'm 65 years old and still remember summer camp with the Boy Scouts. It changed me forever, even though I never went into the military. They played Retreat at about 7pm with everyone in a large formation in an open field; everyone saluting. Then they fired a cannon, and played To the Colors as they lowered the flag. The parade marshal snapped "two!" and we all returned to attention. It just makes you feel proud of your country, and a part of something bigger than yourself. Boys today need some of this stuff.....
OMG. SGT US Army 1987 to 1995, Ft Bliss, Ft Eustis, Ft Stewart, Hunter Army AF, Camp Wonju, Eglin AFB, Indian Naval Base, Redston Arsenal, Ft Meade.... Thank You
Retreat is my husband's favorite bugle call. He told me that 50 years ago at Ft. Ben Harrison when the cannon fired all vehicles stopped and the personnel would get out and salute.
Miss this. Gives me chills and I get emotional. Best was when Robin Williams was entertaining troops. Retreat sounded. He didn’t know what to do so he did nothing. Following the troops lead
When I was a Boy Scout at summer camp, we would all assemble on the Field for closing after dinner at the mess hall. They would play Retreat, then a cannon salute, then To the Colors as they lowered the flag. It made you feel proud, and part of something bigger than yourself. God bless today's military; they have to feel the same way.
Brings back a lot of memories from 20+ years ago. Last time I heard this was when I was 23 and leaving Ft. Riley KS for the last time. Haven’t stepped foot on a military base since.
It’s things like this, where you’d counted the days until you’d never want to do again. Then you finally get out of the service, and you never have to do it again. And you hear this, randomly. And it brings you back. For a brief moment, you’re back in formation, with your buddies, in the hot sun, or the cold rain, saluting to the flag. And even though it sucked, you hated it, and never wanted to do it again; just for a brief moment, you wish you were back there. Back where it somehow made sense, but it didn’t. Just for a moment…
I spent much of my youth on Randolph A.F.B. and became familiar with most bugle calls. Didn't have to learn them when i enlisted in the Navy cause I knew most of them!
I and all my shipmates just about run to get indoors whenever this is about to play and we hear “attention to colors!”, but I know I’ll miss it when I’m out
It's the echo that really makes it feel real. Last time I heard it was at Fort Polk. You really never forget that kind of stuff, do you? Never thought I'd miss it
I like how he even added echoes into the clip, truly how you would hear it (usually when caught) walking between buildings but too far to run to any door lol
I’m listening to this in my living room, and want to stand at attention, wait for the evening cannon to boom, then render a hand salute to the colors! God, I love and miss the Army! It certainly wasn’t all sunshine, but there was “something” about military service that you won’t find anywhere else. For those who never served, they likely would not understand. For those who did serve…we do understand.
Yes, the cannon boom between Retreat and To The Colors. There's nothing like the feeling of brotherhood even if you're just in the Boy Scouts. "Present arms.....order arms.....two!"
