Stop apologizing for your life, your choices and how you do it. You guys are creative,resourceful and most of all have skills we all wish we had. Your home and projects are beautiful!!

I wish people wouldn’t criticize their design choice, I personally love everyone of them and if it’s not your thing, keep it to yourself. Why must you come here with negativity?!? Please be kind or go somewhere else. We Love this family here, I’m sure I can speak for most who watch them also.

Here's a tip. Make all of your cabinets go to the ceiling. I had a kitchen built that way and everyone that saw it loved it. It gave me so much added storage space. I loved it too!

My Grandma had a metal kitchen like that and I am her age now, always loved the sound shutting the drawers.. You put so much care and love into whatever you do it will be beautiful.

They have EXACTLY what they want in THEIR kitchens without your input! Do what you and Ashley want and don’t even think about the comments about what you should do to your kitchen. May I give y'all a small suggestion on the metal cabinet? Take to a powder coating place. They can sandblast and powder coat it to your liking.

I like the idea of dark walls with white cabinets, once everything is in place it will not look too dark at all. I’m loving 🥰 your cool sink, I mostly hand wash my dishes, just install a gooseneck faucet and you can wash pots and pans easily, no problem. 😊

Love the old metal cabinets and they will fit in nicely with the theme of your home. Most of us love watching everything you two do so don't worry about boring us with the details. We learn a lot just from observing because believe it or not this is a great learning channel for us.

Doug & Ashley! Use a zinc chromate spray primer for the metal sink cabinet. We use it to prevent rust in the structural components of airplanes, and it works for literally decades to prevent rust. Airplanes are usually left tied down to anchor points at airports and the air humidity moisture condensates inside the planes every morning and would rust them out very quickly if not protected with zinc chromate primer. You can use any type of metal enamel paint or automotive paint to cover this special primer ❤

OMG! That is the sink of my 1950's child hood! I grew up doing dishes, cleaning produce, canning, and bathing new siblings in that sink! I really, really hope you can save it. I wish I had found one like that for the guest apartment in our garage. So looking forward to seeing the completed kitchen.

I just adore you guys. Im at the 15:13 minute mark, so maybe this comment isn't necessary, but I wanted to suggest something for the backsplash near cooking/food prep areas. A sheet of clear acrylic over the dark wall would look cool. Keeping all the integrity of the dark wood but protecting it from everyday cooking splashes and easy clean up. Just a suggestion.

You 'took' the sink out of our first Apartment in Chicago, 1818 W Farwell Ave.! Lovely memories. Coming from Germany in 1965 it seemed that everything in our Kitchen was luxurious: build-in cabinets, we even had a cabinet to hold the ironing board. The 1929 Apartment Building had a lot of what I call 'old elegance'. The craftsmen at that time had skills that are almost forgotten today - - were it not for Craftsmen like you, bringing quality back to our throw-away lifestyle! Thank you, I appreciate both of you. I agree about how much shopping interferes with plans for the day. Any time we need to shop, it's a 1 hour round trip, never mind how long it takes to find what we need. LOVE the sink!!

There will always be people who are not visual. I can see what you’re going for right now just because I have that ability. It sounds absolutely stunning. You’re just doing the opposite of what a lot of people do. White walls with dark cabinets. Why not do something unusual? It will be beautiful and it will also have a touch of a rustic feeling with the dark wood and no high shine. More of a satin finish. You’re doing great work. Keep it up.

LOVE the sink!! I live in an old farm and have a farmhouse sink, but really wanted one with the drain boards built in. Back in those days, they were about function and nailed it!

I almost feel like you have to use the upper sink cabinets and make the whole sink area a beautiful vintage focal point. You'll never see a sink like it. They just don't make things like this anymore. I can't wait to see how your kitchen turns out. Thanks for bringing us along.

Hi Ashley and Doug (and kids), I'm a 73 year old wife and mom in Georgia and love watching your videos! I started with those from 7 years ago and am up to the mobile home/ old school at 5 years old. I home schooled and unschooled our youngest son from Pre K thru high school. It helped that hubby became a math teacher after he retired from his original career. I'm just amazed with how much y'all can just look at and know exactly what to do! It is surprising how little of the walls you actually see in a kitchen. The contrast will look good, I think.

It is nice to see what is in your head come to life step by step. You are a teacher to those that have less skills and can use guidance not just end product.

Your home, your choices. I love the fact that you're sticking with the colours that you want, and given the accent ceilings, bigger windows, and more open rooms in a few areas of the house, I think it all looks great. ❤ The subtle difference in the wall colour and finish in the kitchen is noticeable compared to the sitting room. I love that. ❤️

Love the metal cabinets and drainboard sink, I know people will comment on the material and color choices, but you do you. My grandma had metal cabinets and I always thought they were great.

I had a sink very much like that in an apartment we lived in many years ago. I absolutely loved it! It was shallow but large enough that the depth didn’t seem to be a problem. I hope you enjoy the sink as much as I loved mine.

I think once those cabinets are finished and installed, you guys will have way more appreciation for them than if you had just bought some prefabbed cabinets. The work and effort it will take will pay off in the end.

I was thinking a farm house sink, yes that would be my second choice, they are nice and I had one in a rental in an old apartment building. Doug you’re so talented, I like the way you & Ashley thinks & plan everything out.

If you are happy with what you are doing, whether it is wall color, furniture design, cabinets, etc. why should I be anything but happy for you. I enjoy watching what you do, especially when you do the seemingly impossible. It brings me pleasure; if it didn't, I would quit watching, not criticize. I'm excited to see what you can do with that sink, which I love, and the creation of a pantry cabinet. Hoping it will all come together as you desire. Thanks for sharing your projects with us.

Boy howdy on shopping being a day-killer! We usually just devote an entire day to grocery shopping because we know we won't get much of anything else done. We incorporate any and all other errands into the day so they all get done at the same time. Of course...having to drive about an hour to the grocery store does kinda put a hitch in our gitalong. LOL And that sink!! Love it! I remember those from my childhood, with the drainboards and the metal cabinets.

I only hand wash dishes also. 38 years in this house and never wanted a dish washer! I think I had one years ago in an apt when I lived in TX for 9 months but don’t think I ever used it! Love this sink you re putting in - can’t wait for the installation!

I love the thought of you building your own cabinets. My dad was an expert at this (though he never ever built any for our own kitchen), and I loved helping him. I've often wondered if any of those cupboards are still in use in that Ohio town. I'm really eager to see how the tongue and groove build turns out too.

I think you should do which ever one you want more. But my vote is for a screened kitchen. I loved the photos Ashley!

Man, I think the metal cabinets will look awesome! I'd encourage using the top cabinets as well, since y'all are going for an older look for the house. I'd highlight them not matching the new ones. A little slice of mid-century modern, if you will. I think adding some automotive sound dampener, inconspicuously, to the cabinets would be good. They can look old but they don't have to sound old!!LOL!! That sink....LOVE IT!!!

Wire wheels, sandpaper, bondo filler, RIVETS, self etching primer and a 2 part spray paint (like they use on cars) I would love to find a full set of those metal cabinets for my wood shop!

That is a beautiful kitchen sink/cabinet! I have used same dishwashers for 74yrs and they still do a great job !

Tip on the metal cabinets. Think Automotive! If it's to bad a body guy could put new metal in it. Duplicolor has a great rust converter. Love the whole thing!! 👍👍
