I actually got the Super RetroTrio recently and it's awesome. The only game I've found that I haven't gotten to work on it is Ecco The Tides Of Time. Other than that it seems to run everything else just fine. Plus the gameplay looks immensely better than my NES sitting in my closet. It's a spectacular system.

I have the Black/Red one. I had the Mascot Edition, but it got fried due to hooking up the wrong AC adapter. I love mine.

The RetroGen Adapter's compatibility issues are attributed to two things: 1. A missing signal 2. Improper power setup Issue 1 affects Virtua Racing. There is an extra signal this game needs that the RetroGen Adapter doesn't have, however, you can fake it by bridging that particular pin on the cartridge slot with another one, that being an address line. Issue 2 affects not just Virtua Racing, but also Sonic & Knuckles with Sonic 2 (not Sonic & Knuckles with Sonic 3, though, that works fine out of the box) and even the Mega EverDrive flash cartridge. The chipset in the RetroGen Adapter is made to run at 3.3V, but Genesis games run at 5V. In an attempt to reduce strain on the chipset, the 5V pins on the cartridge slot are passed through a 10ohm resistor to limit the current going in. This is okay for standard Genesis games, but Virtua Racing, Sonic & Knuckles with Sonic 2 and the Mega EverDrive all cause a pronounced voltage drop because of this resistor. The fix is to replace the resistor by a 1N4004 diode. This also helps with major video noise issues when playing Master System games on the RetroGen Adapter via a converter.

I had a Retro Duo years ago. I absolutely LOVED this system. Very reliable for what initially felt like a flimsy piece of junk - the little aftermarket console that could.

Have you also tried the Power Base Converter for Master System games and things like the Game Genie on the RetroGen? I know that the Retro Duo Portable does work with those, and with a few other things (Like Sonic 3 & Knucles) that the console version doesn't...

I am definitely going to have to pick this up. It is cheaper than buying either system alone at this second-hand gaming shop that is local to me where I get a lot of my older systems, and for really good prices too. But even they sell the classic consoles at about 150-200 price range. Eeesh, I'd much rather buy a third-party thing like this for a fraction of the price and save the rest of the money for digging up rare treasures to play on it at that store!

I had a retro duo, I didn't think it was that great because I never owned any snes games but I did have fun playing the classic nes games. If you put cartrages in they would be sort of floppy. I had the same problem with the down arrow button. I had the choice to buy a retro duo or a regular nes. I would suggest the 2.0 red version, if there is an exchange store nearby where you live go there because thats where I got mine and I saw another 2.0 version.

There is a portable one called the retro duo portable. Everything works fine though you have to put on a deprecate adapter (it comes with the device) for the Nintendo that can wobble around and freeze the game. Also, when I tried the super game boy, the sound quality was lower than on a game boy color.

I've had a retro duo for about 2 years I think, mine worked great for about 6 months but shortly after the NES component of it stopped working. Not sure exactly what happened! For what its worth that is my experience with the console. Still runs snes games fine so thats a plus as I already owned an nes anyways

I'd like to know if things like the Aladdin deck enhancer works on these types of systems. Cause things like the deck enhancer had problems running on original hardware, even frying some systems. So it's an interesting thought.

I like the look of the Retro Duo, but I prefer the Retron 3 just for the fact you can play Genesis games out of the box and can use the original controllers for each system.

I think Virtua Racing had an internal chip that makes it different than a regular Genesis game. I guess we can assume that the Sega Master System adapter for the Genesis won't work through the Genesis Retro Duo adapter, as well as 32X won't work either for similar reasons as the Sonic & Knuckles lock-on tech

***** I am pretty certain it wouldn't work especially since to get it working you need to plug in another cord into the genesis. BUT, with some power going through it (via pluging its independent power adapter in) i don't see why it wouldn't work as a pass through ... entirely useless sure but kinda fun just to see i guess.

I've heard the build quality on the RetroDuo is pretty bad. The one I have is from 2010(9 years ago), and it's already worn out after I got it. The controller ports seemed to be loose, and I don't know if it's been like that when I got it or if it got like that over time after I got it. This means that occasionally, even with the original SNES controller, it stops working occasionally and I often have to push the controller port up to get it working again.

I actually had a RetroDuo before. I had two of them but I had to return them both because they broke almost immediately after I got them due to electrical issues. They would work for a little bit but they would end up frying after a couple days. What would happen is that it would start to make a burning plastic smell then some of the games would stop working all together. Typically the ones that used the FX chip. Since then I have refused to buy another one of these. I'm thankful that Amazon gave me a full refund on both.

I know the RetroGen adapter will run UK Genesis games. However I don't believe the system can run UK NES or SNES games. I will have to test it out when I can find a cart. I ran my system on a flatscreen LCD, I used a small little converter box to upscale the image to 1080p. All the footage you see in the video was directly from the console. The quality looks fine and it is playable, but it's not as sharp as an HD signal. I have seen the system plugged up to a tube TV though and it looks great. :)

don't know if i just have an older model, but i own one of these things and the emulation for the SNES isn't perfect. when attempting to play A Link to the Past it doesn't display all of the graphical layers which at best makes the game look really weird and at worst can render sections of it virtually unplayable. really happy with how it plays NES games despite the lack of controller support, especially since i've found it difficult to find a reasonably priced console, but i'm glad i have an original Super Nintendo now.

Interesting console. I would consider it, but I already own a Retron 5 which allows the use of NES, SNES, Famicom, Genesis and GB/C/A titles one one system in 720p. Kind of wish the games came out easier, but still.

Does it read off the cartridges or does it just open up a ROM file? Pretty disappointed it doesn't have HDMI.

It reads right off the cartridges, not like the Retron 5. This is why the Super Game Boy works on the system. Unfortunately it doesn't output to HD though.

+Will Nachand Versions 1.1 and 1.1 of the game work without a problem. Software revisions 1.2 and 1.3 are incompatible with the system.

So, I have a question, but it's not so much about THIS console. Since the Genesis adapter doesn't have 100% compatibility, would you still recommend this one for Genesis fans, or is there a different retro-remake console that you would recommend over this one. I understand that it has really good compatibility, but the Sonic+Knuckles Lock-On is the issue I have. S3&K is my favorite Genesis game I've ever played, and I'd be rather disappointed being able to play damn near everything EXCEPT that one. (petty, I know. But still...) By the way, I'm not sure if you would be able to answer my other question, but if anybody else in the comments would know... Because this thing is so much more compact and is compatible with multiple consoles, wouldn't that mean it's essentially an emulator with physical cartridge slots, or is it running everything the same way the original consoles would? Not that it really matters much, but I'm a bit curious, and there are always those tiny differences that emulators have over the real consoles.

I personally think the RetroGEN is worth it. The majority of Genesis games out there do not use additional hardware like Sonic & Knuckles and Virtua Racing. So for most of the games, you should be fine. All I really know about this system's internals is that it's a system on a chip. It's not pulling the software from the carts and holding it in the memory like the Retron5. If it is emulating the games it's doing it incredibly well.
