I laughed at this, because I saw myself....Most people, somehow think, that when you work on HVAC equipment you're working in it...They really don't realize the conditions a guy works in....I'm glad you got it running...The feeling of achievement, after a problem child, to me, is awesome....My favorite quote, from The outlaw Josey Wales...."We will endeavor, to persevere"....You my friend, have "Endeavored to persevere".... Again, thanks for making this video....You're a damn good repairman...Vern

The job itself can be challenging then take freezing temps with hi winds or 100+ degrees temps. Customers on your back and office calling wanting to know when you will be at your next call. Imagine it was all bench work in climate controlled conditions

I just went through this, and on a York....Finally had to clean the pilot tube burner.....Crap had built up after years of use....I have come to realize old units tend to do that....I can appreciate what this man went through and in my opinion, is a true professional...I wonder though, does every tech talk to themselves when on calls....I do, no camera needed....Why?....Some times a guy needs a professional opinion....lol...My thanks to the gent that made this video.

I was before the camera just using the camera as an excuse to talk about what I am working on. Hopefully my mind can stop me from doing something stupid! lol It's about having fun no matter what conditions we have to work in. I am considering carrying around a can of air duster to try to blast into the tubing orifice and hopefully clear the spider web or whatever is plugging it up without having to remove.

Bill I love Seafoam deep creep! It earned it's keep on a 55 year old backhoe this summer. Beat out Kroil and PB blaster. Deep Creep is my new go to penetrant.
@thehvachacker
@thehvachacker 5 лет назад
Is the foaming normal or is that just because it was below freezing when I was using it? I have PB and many others. I have an experiment I am going to try yet want to give most of them a shot. Many disagree yet I find WD works. They just need to lubricate the treads for after the initial movement. Yet if they actually get through the threads when severely rusted that's even better. Do you think the deep creep is better than the other seafoam cleaner? The counter guy was trying to push the engine cleaner one yet I wanted to try the deep creep.

ohh york... and the new ones have ......... LCD displays!!! What were they thinking "ohh a lcd display will be awesome for a roof top unit in -35 c " Engineers should be required to crawl trough 3 feet of snow on a roof top and fix a unit before they are ever allowed to design one. IMO

I hate Boilers and you hate York, which we BOTH made this quite clear, you rather work on Boilers and I Install Luxaire (York), I’d say we both even now. Great Video👍
@thehvachacker
@thehvachacker 5 лет назад
I only dislike this style RTU. The way the pilot tube is and always gets restricted. Having to lay on the ice or snow at times to blow hi pressure air into to try to clean. Only to fire up and still pull and the ribbon has a hole in it. Why not just use burners with the gas track built in. I did like the diamond series. and the older r22 machines when I worked for a York/ Luxaire dealer. I have installed a few Evcons and Colemans this summer so I am not a complete hater. Yet tell me how do you feel about Lennox? :)
@superiorcomfortheatingairl3373
I have worked on some Lennox H.P. & Furnace, but I will say one thing for Lennox is that they don’t charge for shipment for warranty parts, they are the only company that does this and I am not even a Lennox Dealer. The only complaint I have is they own Allied, makers of Armstrong and I have been working on a lot of older Armstrong units using those damn Smart Valve. I think ALL manufacturer engineers gets bored, because every time they do come up with a good piece of equipment, they got to keep changing it and also I hate when manufactures try to outsource the cheapest parts available it seems like when they do that, it becomes the technicians nightmare
@thehvachacker
@thehvachacker 5 лет назад
I am surprised it seems most on here hate Lennox. Where I work we deal mostly with Lennox for furnaces and air conditioning. Only Armstrongs we take care of are the through the wall ones which you hate also.....cough......lol. What is allied I see the allied on Lennox RTU's sometimes. Seems like youtube is in love with the bosch yet looks like outdated technology from what I see. Lennox has been doing that for a few years already with the xc25 model. Yet control wires need to be updated or checked over to prevent communication errors. I am sure York/ Luxaire has a really nice modulating communicating system, Trane uses the suction line to cool down their inverter board which I think is a great idea. How is Luxaire top of the line model? I always like to see the latest and greatest technology. I spend a lot of time correcting problems on the high-end Lennox residential systems, those I can't film.
@superiorcomfortheatingairl3373
I went to the YORK’s residential manufacturer facility around 15 years ago, and at that time they brought in another engineer, and at this meeting he was explaining to us that he wanted to lead York into being the first on using new technologies, such as Micro Channel, modulating furnaces with a simple thermostat and other products. He did not last long, I think he went to Rheem. Since Johnson Control now owns York International, they have been more on not “jumping on the wagon” with new product technology. Their main investment is making their manufacturer more robotics (less human error) according to them and the venture with hitachi for VRF. I have been to this same factory three times total, first with COLEMAN/EVCON, YORK International, and now Johnson Control and it quite interesting to see involvement of technology being used in the manufactures aspects. I been doing this work for 30 years, back when I was younger I loved new technology and the challenge of repairing it, now I am more reserved, really don’t like the headache of new technology, with unhappy customers gripping about breakdown and the invoice associated with it, and with distributor and even manufacturer tech support not being very good any more.

very helpful video. that flame sensor is only sensing the pilot flame? i thought the flame sensor's job was to sense the MAIN BURNER flame. is the PILOT flame on same time as main burner? please help as i am a little confused. thank you.
@thehvachacker
@thehvachacker 5 лет назад
The pilot flame is on all the time. The spark lights the pilot ribbon. Once the flame sensor senses pilot it allows the main burner to energize. On a spark ignition system with a pilot both are light the same time. Some just spark and don’t have a separate pilot then the flame sensor is only sensing the burner. Check this video out the flame sensor is part of the pilot. It s a hot surface ignitor but still needs the pilot to light sense he flame and then ignite the main burners

do you prefer those compound flat toothed pumps over the Knipex styled Cobras?

They have different uses. The flat tooth pliers wrench is like using an adjustable that doesn't slip. The Cobra's are the best pump pliers for gripping anything round.

Deep Creep and liquid wrench the only two consistent high scores among AvE and Project Farm tests. PB, Kroil, WD-40 only scoring average and I have no dog in the race other than I bought the Deep Creep and it is impressive for lubrication alone. None of them penetrate to any detectable level. Sort of like the wax for stuck bolts deal, just doesn't work. These magic oils just don't penetrate. That part is pure snake oil by what I've seen.

@thehvachacker
@thehvachacker 5 лет назад
Not as much as I would like. I miss the residential no heat calls a dirty flame sensor or broken ignitor. Or the simplest call I ever had the homeowner had no ac and was trying to turn it on from the heat t-stat. Who doesn't feel guilty having to charge someone to turn the gas burner switch at top of the basement stairs back on? Yet I can't go out there for free.

My camera is just so I can document my life as an HVAC technician. Allow others to learn from my successes and failures. Yet make it easier to let a customer witness what I run into as was the sabotaged ac system repair all 3 parts. The customer was able to get the previous company to cover repair cost since the oversized run capacitor on the motor ended up damaging it and taking it out. Mostly I want my daughter if she is ever interested to see what I do for work
