I’ve seen similar ones from Episcopalian and Presbyterian churches in Blairgowrie and Edinburgh, Scotland. Maybe Martin can go to the churches and look in their historic registries and see if he can find the individual that the token commemorated! Nice find!

I was impressed by the impression, but the coin itself, didn't impress me at all. You have the fortune of hunting where an ancient find is very possible with every hunt, 1866 is as far back in time as ive traveled, with a possibility of 1700s, but not a high one. And yet it doesn't change the fact I still love the hunt! Im sure it wont be long before you dig into the way back again! Cheers!

I've checked more thoroughly through the Fasti and have come up with two possible churches for Martin's communion token. Thomas Spankie was minister of Coupar Angus between 1742 and 1778. And Thomas Stark was minister of Balmerino in Fife from 1742 to 1772.

Here is a little tip for all detectorists among you: when you find a coin that is almost unreadable, you can bring it back to life with the finest steel wool (in the Netherlands it's marked as '0000' extra fine). I just realised how fortunate I am for generally finding more than 10 coins from the 1500/ 1700s, but then again, I have never found Medieval artefacts, let alone Roman... The advantages and disadvantages of living near polders (funny that that is an English word as well!). I really like your videos!

It may be an unrecorded communion token if it's Coupar Angus, as the online book has one with the date 1744 on the other side and a CA for Coupar Angus. And that says IS for James Spankie, but the Fasti says his name was Thomas.

I've checked out the online book 'Communion Tokens of the Established Church of Scotland'. 'M' stands for minister, and there is one for Ceres in Fife for minister Thomas Scott in 1749. But he died in 1752, so it can't be him. I don't have access to all the online pages without paying an access fee. But a helpful resource if you download it onto your computer.

I think that the dig you thought may be a lid could be actually a round body for a side mirror? I have something that looks just like it, the little ball shape on it fits in a socket shaped fitting on the bottom of the large side mirror of my RV hmm who knows😮

Beautiful accent. Theres nothing in Australia to be found thats over 200 years old and most of that is British. You might find an old brick made by a Convict or an odd bottle or ceramic pot lid from the 1850s gold fields thats the best you can hope for. Seems we didnt drop many coins in the 1800s.but dropped plenty in the 1900s. HIgh and low PH soils really eat coins away here. Where I am modern coins get eaten in about 8 years.
