I am heading back to Alaska in 2024 and it is time to start thinking about how to pack a motorcycle for a long trip. In this video we look at electronics.

I watched in envy the 2017 trip as this ride from NJ-AK is a bucket list. While I won't camp I will be solo and will follow this trip to continue to identify great ideas to incorporate my ride- whenever that happens!!!

Ready set go. Super excited for you and the big adventure. I’ve been waiting for months, and I’m sure a whole lot of others to hear this news👍 happy trails to you, be safe out there, and shoot that video. Looking forward to all that you’re going to show while you’re riding.

Good video Advice for next trip, don't order or exchange for foreign cash. Just go to an ATM as you arrive. Always the best exchange. Cheers

Hi Craig, I‘m 55 now and going on my first 3000km motorcycle journey on July 2nd. From Germany up to Finland and Sweden. Your videos help me to get my stuff together and be well prepared. I wish you the best of luck for your trip and looking forward to seeing your reports! Safe travels!

Not only do you have a killer beard you are right. I been doing a few longer trips this year and I’m right there with you. I wand to document the trip but putting the cameras on, keeping hot batteries (which is a pain swapping batteries every 1-1/2 to 2 hrs). Btw-insta 360 uses USB-C connection. USB A is really old tech. I am trying to make 300 miles/day as a goal. Otherwise I’m doing “forced march” mode where I drive past everything. Good job with all the videos you have posted. Really helpful and good philosophy to share with newer riders. 👍

I SO envy you on this trip! That said, although I have packed and traveled long distance for years - I LOVED these two "readiness" posts. Yes, I too have my *xls list .... but, I watched both of these with the same interest and intent that I did way back when I first started watching your channel years ago. I was great to get back to basics and roots!!! And, I hopped off the treadmill at the gym and jotted down two items I think I missed on my Montana trip plan. Looking forward to your trip. Let's do a run in the fall!

One of the things I've been doing now for a good few years when away on a longer trip is take my old phone (pop a pre-paid sim in it), sure they'll give you a few buck for it come upgrade time but you only need to skip this offer once. The next time you upgrade hand back the phone you kept last time and keep the phone you're upgrading from as your new second phone. This second phone is the one I use for all my photos and vids and as it's not your primary phone you don't need to be so precious about it, you can keep your primary phone safe and out of harm's way. The other big plus is if something should happen to your primary phone you have one with all your contacts in you can swap your sim into if it craps out or just use it with the pre-paid sim should you loose it.

Having just returned from a 22 day trip from PA to CA and return, your video makes me glad I’m not a RU-vidr! It is bad enough carrying two iPhones, two iPads, two Cardo PackTalks and the charger for them all. 😂 The main difference between your travel approach and mine is that I use credit cards for almost every purchase I can. One reason is to avoid the currency exchange hassle and cost, but the main reason is to have the record of our travel and being able to look back and see where we ate, bought gas, etc. I only pay cash when necessary or in restaurants that charge a big surcharge for credit card use - which is becoming far more common since covid. Enjoy your trip! My wife and I rode to Alaska in 2019, thankfully, before covid hit and I would like to go back, but probably won’t get the chance as too many other places we want to ride in both Europe and the USA. I’d really like to trailer my KLR to Alaska and spend a few weeks exploring the dirt road locations that aren’t as suitable for my K1200LT…

I like your more restrained approach to what to pack. Over the years, I've been getting rid of lots of things to. I'll be curious to see what else you're going to put in the top case to keep your electronic from sliding around

I know this will be another epic trip. Yup, that's a lot of electronic stuff. Depending on your return route, our path may cross. We will be in Canmore from July 20-27th. If we don't see you on this trip, perhaps we will see you on the east coast.

"This is my downsize kit, I used to carry 3 Go Pro's and a digital camera as well" "Now I just carry two Go Pro's and a 360' camera" 🤣 I'm just kidding I have a helmet mounted Drift Ghost S and Git Up2 Pro (I have a Go Pro 4 but I don't usually take that) and cannot believe the amount of 'stuff' you need to carry to 'support' such a simple set up. Doesn't matter how much you try to pare down, in my experience, if you are a 'what if' or a 'be prepared' kind of guy (which like me, I think you are) You'll always be carrying more than the next guy. Safe trip!
