To be honest, it was a little weird for just any minor country (like Bhutan) to stage a coup in a country as major as USSR (which had the NKVD) or USA (which had the FBI). I remember playing with that and just cringed every time it worked. The new Spy system is also legitimately amazing, you can literally bend countries to your knees without a single war, consistently root out resistance during wars, and build intelligence networks in areas you are going to attack... Now that I have La Resistance, I will never go back to that barebones intelligence system.
oh god I remember when the AI would literally snake through your country. remember vividly playing the USSR and looking back to my country to find that it had lines of pink everywhere from where about 4 UK divisions had just snaked around everywhere.

You can come back to older version, you can disable DLC and everything is different, the only thing that will never betray you is the Italian Focus tree.
I miss that old Japan tree lol. It was so broken how you can rush the Strike the USA focus and instantly get all their factories. If I remember correctly too you could also rush the kamikaze and it was devastating

If i remember correctly the multiple capitals was actually the victory point system that got carried over from hoi3. Before we got the much better version we have now.

I'm so glad that when I got this game 2 years ago I bought it with Together for Victory for my first tentative playthroughs. I can't imagine I would have stuck with it in 1.0.
Honestly I can only remember the game at launch more fondly than how it ended up. Some of the quality of life features were pretty nice, like the factories, but as I didn't feel inclined to get the DLC the game seemed to take a hit with each one until I eventually just didn't feel like playing anymore. I particularly remember Man the Guns making me never want to touch naval things (or any nation involved with them) with a 10 foot pole ever again.
I remember in that version you could boost party popularity in China as PRC and territory would occasionally flip to you. I had a fun campaign back then just letting China fight Japan alone and occasionally getting the perfect state to flip to me to meme the hell out of China and Japan
I've only realised this now but ISP gained over 68k subs and within 5 months of hitting 600k back in August which is just mind blowing to see that finally a hoi4 channel is blowing up
At first i was confused about the soviet moving capital to warsaw or having two capitals at the end, but then I rememberd, taht in the old times capital woulnd change untill peace deal, so that second star in USSR is just a capital of that fasist rebelion, and the warsaw was still capital of poland
