I think the double turn could be beneficial if I dont have a battle tactic I can score this turn. In this case not being able to score battle tactic and gaining a double turn will keep me in the game. Players will have to weigh actual possibility of them scoring a battle tactic vs not scoring. I think this will become more crucial as the game goes on. Turn 4 for example you may see that you dont have an easy battle tactic and you win the priority roll its better to push forward and perhaps stop your opponent from scoring than try to score a battle tactic that the likelihood you will score is low

I think it would be cool if different tactics were worth different amounts of points so you have to weigh up whether its worth taking the hard battle tactic for 4 points or the pretty much guaranteed one for 1 point.

The Battle Tactic system is better than 3rd (especially if they keep faction battle tactics out of the game) But I do wish they did something different than battle tactics for secondaries

I’m incredibly excited for 4th. 96% of what we’ve read so far sounds good to me. Loved 3rd despite its flaws, so 4th can’t come soon enough

Just want to help clarify this. 4 game modes Spearhead: only the core rules. Path to glory: narrative with all the advanced rules like magic and terrain, no battle tactics Matched play: First blood battle pack, 6 core battle tactics and Faction tactics. 4 rounds. General's handbook: competitive play, 5 rounds, season rules and +2 Grand Alliance tactics. 6 core +2 GA tactics.

Really wish they would have removed battle tactics entirely, but at least this is a step up. I think the main reason they can't do something like old world where defeating the enemy in combat is the main goal, is because there's not as much tactical depth in AoS where certain unit types counter others--positioning also doesn't matter nearly as much. So if AoS were just about trying to defeat your enemy, then the game would be two blobs running at each other. But I think the real solution is to add more tactical depth to the combat.

Rob, 1st thank you for the great 4Ed Content...I have a request or an idea, you and many other GW sigmar bring up NEW players and I grasp that new bring more to our hobby. GW seems to hunt the new players or " new payers" as the primary revenue source but if there was a way to get TO or run a poll or some type of real data to show the cash flow to the hobby is truly new players...I think( opion) that is might not be as true as people are saying but I have no way to backit up...when I look at our hobby I see some new players but most are veterans who spend many $ on armys for many reasons...I guess what I'm getting at is I don't quite buy the whole...new players should be GW target for cash flow....hope this made sense

I admit, despite my upset about the squatting of BoC and Sacresanct chamber... man they keep managing to get me hyped for 4th. All I need now is an article confirming how allies work so I can make sure my Hedonite plans remain well... as they are, so I don't have a couple big models I can't use.

Really happy to see the direction this is going. Less freebies, and universal tactics in the GHB every year will make it a lot easier for casual players to keep track of what is going on. I also really like that they are leaning on the Grand Alliances for part of this because I've always liked that concept in AoS.

I think you misspoke when you said the battle tactics are part of the GHB. The grand alliance battle tactics are part of the GHB but the 6 universal battle tactics are part of the core rules module. So they can tweak these over the course of the entire edition if they need to. I might be wrong in this but after rereading the article a few times thats what it seems to be saying.

I wonder how different GA battletactics in GHB will affect the meta... Battletome specific BT were often not used in events (at least around here) because TOs thought it created too much of an imbalance. 4 out of 10 VP for a turn is a very big deal after all.

I think the "balance" portion means it allows them more opportunities to apply balance "patches", as they did in AoS 3.0.

That's a great observation! The balance aspect definitely plays a crucial role in keeping the game fair and enjoyable for everyone.

@@thehonestwargamerstreams but you’re not wrong. GW historically has launched a lot of Seasons with some broken & unbalanced stuff. 3.0 has made me hopeful they’ll continue to update during seasons.

People are still going to take the double .there are so many crush your head builds that rely on brute force example varanguard or meet fist that don't care about points because they want to crush you by round two.

Not sure until I play but can’t say I’m excited about battle tactics or underdog rules, I can still decimate most of your armies & still lose on points, my general can say to the commanders, it’s ok to deploy badly & get slaughtered, we can still win, don’t know about you but I still play to win even in monopoly & grand strategy, destroy there whole army, and you win😃

Step 1 take a general. Step 2 pick no unit for general reggiment Step 3 negate 1 battle tactics to your opponent just building your arm list

I don’t like gw release politics. It’s like teasing for months and hyping you up until you lost interest by the time the release arrives. But I really enjoy your round up videos and hope my lizards will be solid in the new edition

I quit AoS3 due to getting the feeling the design was pushing the game to be decided by turn 3 in most cases in my experience and the book writing was encourage spam. I am going to pick up AoS 4 and give it a good go, hopeful for spearhead and a semi-detached format for playing what I guess would be seen as narratively. However, I am not being sold by these articles, even cleaned up and given better presentation. I think your take on closer games yesterday was positive, but the idea it could be incidentally closer is not appealing. On battle tactics I will be honest I read the core and was fairly positive but then read the grand alliance ones and was not impressed their seems real disparity. Keep up your coverage appreciate the enthusiasm and presentation

I am really not a fan of battle tactics. They would be cool if they were bound to a scenario. But this way they just annihalate the immersion for me. It's like playing Black Jack while Playing AoS but Black Jack is 2/3 of AoS - I really don't like this.

Pick and army you like. Grab the spearhead/starter box. Get it built and painted see if you have the stamina to do an army

This is the first L I've seen for 4th edition. Time for another 3 years with a battle tactics system that homogenizes your gameplan. At least with faction BTs gone it's an improvement on 3rd, but that's quite the low bar. This is probably copium, but at least there's the potential they replace the BT module in a future GHB with something else.

Not sure about the grand alliance strategies. Put one unit in the center of the table for order seems a bit easy.

The order BT is 4 units each wholly within a quarter and out of combat. Not 1 unit in the center 😅

One unit in the centre is a universal battle tactic. Order is have a unit in each battlefield quarter and further than 6" from any enemy units.

“Wholly within” so it has to be 4 separate units all of which have to be outside of 6” of enemies By far the worst one spoiled yet… especially for a low unit count army like SCE Here’s hoping the other order one is at least completable

Removing faction secondaries is amazing. You want more complex secondaries in a wargame? I feel like we have enough to do getting through a 3 hour game at speed

If players want to just build kill lists and run at their opponent, they should just go to Old World

Not all competitive players like BTs. My main issue with how BTs currently work has always been how much they homogenize each game. If you're playing to win, then the incentive is to pick 5 when you're building your list and contort your list around scoring those 5 BTs as reliably as you can, which means in more or less the same order each game. While they can make list building more interesting the actual playing of the game is often much less varied because of them. IMO, something like the tactical secondary system from 40k would be much better for gameplay as you can't just plan it beforehand and execute it with little thought.

@@Arttano I’d argue there’s no thought required in being reactive to tactical as your play is still dictated by the secondary. Holding units off the table incase deploy or behind pops, doing actions with units effectively removing them from the game further more you get stuff like nids or skew lists where the optimal play is quite literally being fixed secondaries and be more brain dead then a kill point system. I personally feel if you can execute the same game plan 5 games in a row, your opponents just simply arnt good enough or the armies too strong. Similarly the best armies in 40K are still tailored to being Uber flexible because you’ll need to kill and be mobile, but you have the benefit of shooting your way out of a bad card pull in 40K. But it’s clearly not an overwhelmingly agreed on system
