Great video, my two favourites so far are transcendent Kingdom and luster, but I’ve still got a few more to read. With Piranesi I felt like it could have gone more in-depth with the world, I wish it was a longer novel and I think then I would have loved it

I would agree with your top picks of Piranesi and Transcendent Kingdom, I did enjoy Burnt Sugar and Summer but Luster left me cold. That's all I've managed so far but I have a few more on their way to me. Great review 😊

I have read How the One-Armed Sister Sweeps Her House and listened to Piranesi. I actually enjoyed One-Armed Sister as I thought the ending was quite well executed. The audiobook for Piranesi is spectacular. I was enthralled. I’m reading Unsettled Ground now and I should have that finished by tomorrow. Not sure yet how I feel about it. So based on little experience with the books, Piranesi is definitely my choice to win at this point in time. I’m hoping to read 10 or 11 from the longlist. Detransition Baby is the one I may or may not read.

Now I wanna read Piranesi even more. :) Transcendet Kingdom is also on my wishlist.

Really interesting to hear your thoughts on these. I liked Luster, but mainly for its witty observations and the language, I didn't find the wife or the husband very believable in their actions and motivations though. Similarly, I enjoyed the play with language in Exciting Times, but wasn't too convinced by the relationships. I tried Transcendent Kingdom on audio, but had the same issue as you with One Armed Sister, so I stopped listening, but I'm still thinking I might buy a physical copy. Detransition, Baby and Piranesi are high up on my list. Thanks for the warning, I've heard so often that Piranesi is best read without knowing anything about it, I stopped before your discussion of it.

I also did not love the Avni Doshi, I found that the way it mixed ideas back and forth diluted the actual point that it was trying to do...

I've read 8 so far and I think my favourite is Unsettled Ground by Claire Fuller. I listened to Nothing But Blue Sky on audible and found it a bit slow to begin with but loved it by the end, hope you enjoy it, the narrator was lovely. I'm struggling with Burnt Sugar, tempted to dnf but we'll see. Loved Piranesi. Have Luster and Because of You to read. I enjoyed Detransition, Baby but felt a bit bored in places to be honest but overall a good story and very interested as I have no knowledge about trans people at all and have been researching after reading the book. Can't read Summer because I haven't read Spring yet. I'm going to get Consent on my Kindle and then wait and see what gets on the shortlist to see if I read any more. I enjoyed Transcendent Kingdom but think I read it too close to Silver Sparrow by Tarayi Jones. I loved Small Pleasures, such a beautiful read. The Vanishing Half I read last year which I loved. Nothing is coming close to how I felt about Hamnet last year though. Be interested to see what gets on the shortlist. My dog went crazy by the way hunting our house looking for a cat while I was watching this video. Apologies for long reply!
