@@kez850 2016-2018 Civics with the 1.5 liter turbo engines are under a recall. This is the state of modern Honda. www.autoblog.com/2019/05/24/honda-cr-v-civic-engine-warranty-extended/
ewwww those round tail 8th gen coupes is ugly lol, both the 9th gen sedan and coupe look better, shit the 8th gen sedan looks better than the 8th gen coupe
This is the perfect car for someone who wants a fun daily driver that is cheap to own and maintain. Gets great mpg and is cheap to insure. I think Honda nailed that with this car! Even the audio system is impressive for a car that costs this little... I'm seriously considering getting rid of my Lexus for one of these.
I went car shopping with my brother a few days ago. And we saw a loaded brand new 2017 for 24k. These things are crazy nice. This one was a coupe though so I'm not sure if it makes a difference
Thank you so much for this review Matt. You showed that this car is a lot of fun despite all the hate it gets now but there is so much more car for your money than the previous gen si and like you said, the more usable power is what makes it a better car. Hopefully you get to drive another 10th gen si with the Hondata tune of +6 psi of boost and get to feel the difference. :))
Keep It Real Cars as a 9th Gen Si owner: yes. The fun of the car is how nimble it is and the fact that it has to be wrung to redline to really get it moving.
Made the same trade, and I gotta say Matt's review is spot on. I don't regret it either, as I'm getting older, I appreciate the more refined ride of the 10th gen while still being fun to drive daily.
I do think they did a great job with the Si but it was quicky over shadowed by the Type R, it's the new end all be all Civic to buy if you can afford it!
I got a blue Si sedan in May, freaking love it. I had the 7th Gen 07 and its certainly not the same but its still an amazing car. Really they could have just used a new badge, its not really a Civic Si. Its basically a new car
I loved my 2007 Honda Civic SI Sedan I got brand new. It was black just like this car and I loved the k20a engine. I kick myself to this day I didn't keep it longer. I'm such an idiot. It was mainly due to marital reasons why, but I should have said screw it all and kept my mind straight. It was a well built car and revved to 8000 rpm. 197 hp and 132 tq was enough for plenty of fun.
Thanks for the review. I get very anxious when buying a new car. I had a 2000 Honda Civic si and I miss it but we needed a family car and got a Kia well since the civic now comes with 4 doors we’re looking at the civics. Hopefully we’d walk out with our new car next week.
Honda is killing the game right now on all fronts. I love my Type R and am trying to convince my wife to get the Si (I told her to get a Type R and she loves mine, but says it's too much for her daily drives).
I test drove one of these myself and I was thoroughly impressed (despite having a faster car already). Felt very sporty, and I loved the clutch. I think it would make a great daily esp with that 40mpg range.
Frank Mauri I'm hoping they make the fit look better in next version, I like the look of the first gen fit but all the others were ugly. It's closer to the format of the older civics
I surprised on how good the gas mileage is for a car with 205hp. 38 highway/28city is pretty insane. I don't think any other car brands with 200 hp engines come close.
I was going to buy a blue one with 2 miles on it, was about to close the deal and told my wife it didn't have vtec.. she told me well then it's not an si ha long store short we went home with a orange 14 si and no complaints
I own a 2006 Civic Si with the K20 engine, it revs over 8000 RPM's. I love this car however that low redline and the quiet and boring engine sound, pushes me away.
Andrew Monasterio you’d be surprised bro I bought the 18 si sedan in black after been out of the Honda scene for about 15 years. After a few days of driving it I started to appreciate the quiet motor and how refined the driving experience is compared to my old em1. And I’d argue you can for sure hear the turbo spool. It’s a comfortable sporty car
Funny, I just drove this car no more than an hour ago. This car is definitely refined over the previous generation car. Also, its fuel economy ratings far surpass the older car's ratings and my MK7 GTI. This car is refined and designed better than the '15 Si. You cannot beat a car priced this way that has a lsd and added safety features as well.
Texas Shaz I agree this is a great civic! I just bought the civic si 17 and The quality is so good! Especially for the price! I owned three different civic Si s before I bought my 17! I owned the k20 and the k24 and yes they were great and I have nothing bad to say about them but my new turbos is my fave! Then over all build quality is just great!! I like all the Si s I must say! I haven't owned one I didn't like!!
Gabriel Fuoco The new Si was more quite on the inside and knowing it's a Honda, this car will outlast the GTI by about 100k miles. The only downside that I feel that may be a deal breaker is that the Si does not have HID headlamps like the GTI. Other than that... I felt more connected with the Si than the GTI.
cool vid. you just need to search for a hondata tuned civic si to drive. Its probably not gonna be easy at this point but it would be great to see a proper review of that.
Great review, as always, especially your reaction flooring the real fast cars. Lol The Si is an awesome car, especially fir the price. I like the sedan, but prefer an automatic, but would consider the 6 Speed manual for the Si Sedan or Fit Sport HFP. I will most likely get a Civic Sport Hatchback CVT, but like many say, it is would be great if the Si equipment were offered in the Civic Sport Hatchback. The option and performance mix would be the best thing, as an alternative to the Sport Touring Hatchback. I thought the Continental tires on the Sport Hatchback was the same All Season tires on the Si, and the Goodyear Sport tires shown on your videos were the optional summer performance tires, unless that was mistakenly a video of another vehicle. Boomba Racing has a lower torque dampener engine mount that helps address the engine flex and wheel hop, and Hondata has engine tuning for even more power for the Si, Sport Hatchback, and other Civics. Overall, you can't lose with the Civic Sport Hatchback, Si, or Type R, plus the available simple aftermarket parts mods, tuning and accessories.
I have a Civic EX-T with Hondata tune. 8th gen Si tried to race me and it wasn't even close. I love high revving n/a engines but these turbos are much more effective.
I Loved the Si up until 2015, after they've removed VTEC, I can't appreciate Honda anymore that much, VTEC was what made those cars excellent. I'd probably go with a Accord 2.0T 2018 which has a Down Tuned Type R engine in there with VTEC for God's sake !
I think you are overhyping VTEC a bit much. It's not important on Turbo cars. For a long response, remember VTEC was a system to adjust valve lift at high engine RPM to attain higher volumetric efficiency. Basically you creating a bigger opening for the air to be sucked in by the piston. a more specialized version of this called i-VTEC was this system and with VTC (variable timing). In the Si, there really is no point with opening valve larger, it's force induction, volumetric efficiency is already over 100% at WOT. making the intake opening bigger doesn't make a large difference when the air coming in is already under 15psi. Also the VTC part is still included in the current motor. as for the type-R motor and why that one has VTEC. It's not even the same system. the K20C vtec works on the EXHAUST CAM ONLY. it's also an inverted cam, where it switches on at lower rpm and shuts off at higher rpm. They do this, as this allows more flow out the exhaust manifold to help spool the turbo. And they chose not to do this on the 1.5L because physically the TD03 turbo is so tiny, that it doesn't really need this system. I can understand if you miss the high revving soul of old honda, but shoehorning in VTEC in these motors isn't going to fix that.
I understand, but VTEC gave a character to these cars, until someone puts a fart can as an exhaust, but that's a different matter. Every car in the industry had something and Honda had VTEC on High Revving Engines. I love the look of the New cars, but I don't understand what is special about them now, other than being Turbo charged Honda's ? They've lost that character feel to the car, that meaning to purchase a Civic, but also they've lost their Fun factor, I had a old Honda Civic 2000, not very powerful, but man does that thing drive nice. The newer ones, just feel like toys full of Useless Tech ( at last useless to me )
