@@Jay-Z33333 The D-Box is just smoother in its operation. It’s hard to explain. I’m not talking about jacking up the smoothing settings in SRS…the D-Box can throw you around just as well but it does it in a smother more controlled way. The haptic feedback of the D-BOX is also brilliant. Forget bass shakers…when turned up it’ll rattle your teeth if you want it too! Something you just have to experience to fully appreciate.

I'm another user that would enjoy seeing comparisons to a SFX100 or PT actuator style system. Now days you can use a Thanos controller with minimal latency and all sorts of tweakable parameters for custom builds. I find my version with 150mm travel to be amazing but always wondered how the D-Box motion would feel in comparison.

I have a poor's man version, a Realteus Forcefeel on my seat, but really it's great you do feel acceleration and braking, shifting and even grip when taking corners sort of. Can't drive without anymore, to have feedback at your butt and back adds to the immersion. But this is next level, definitely on my wishlist when I can afford to live bigger ;).

Great video. Been running the Gen 5 for a couple months and can just add that when the trial expired, nothing changed in terms of utility of the software for games. I got an email stating my expiration period was close to ending for use on movies, but it reiterated my use on motion coded games would not be impacted without a subscription and it hasn’t. (I haven’t tested if that impacts adaptive gaming for non-supported games, but I can check and update this post).

I was thinking of getting the DBox system as an addon for the Next Level Racing GTtrack cockpit, which it fitted with their V3 motion platform for the seat on top of it. I was thinking exactly the same thing when you remarked that you preferred to set up the system to mimic your body's motion and not the entire car's motion. With both systems (plus the force feedback wheel), one can have everything in one compact cockpit setup.

I have the 1.5" D-Dox with only two actuators and pivot on the front. Been considering upgrading to four, but need more than 1.5" travel for dirt racing games.... Be interesting to see if they do a 3" system, but also face an issue of mounting these, considering I have a Vesaro rig... Nothing square on it... Other issue of late (last year and a bit) is their support never replies to my email. For a system that is very expensive they don't seem bothered to respond to any support emails, at least from me. Thanks for mentioning the DK2 system, will look at these as an alternative

Also I hope D-Box will also model the engine oriëntation in alongside those engine vibrations based off of torque, because when you rev a transverse mounted engine it feels different from a longitudinal mounted one. Then there is also the difference in engine type in the way torque is converted to the chassis.

Great timing! Given I have a very comprehensive tactile system, I'm looking forward to comparing the D-Box haptics against tactile effects. I'm expecting to use tactile engine effects which are quiet with tactile, D-Box suspension effects, and see which side does things better and if there are any areas that are complementary.

@@MDaDonLegacy I'm running a BK-CT and TST-429 pair under both my pedal deck and my seat and have another 6 exciters on the back of my seat. I have DSP profiles for the transducers so they only get the frequencies they can use and so they run quiet. I'm running multi-layer profiles for each effect running across multiple transducers. The tactile effects are excellent and they don't shake my rig apart. My D-Box Gen 5 arrives today. So I'll get to compare their haptics with what I have. I have no doubt that the D-Box haptics are by far better than what Will had setup before for tactile. What I'm running is far more effective and in a different more expensive category. Still I am expecting that the D-Box brings things to the table that I will definitely want to use. I'm expecting some haptic instead of tactile, some tactile instead of haptic and it's possible there may be a few that work together. Time will tell.

I have tested the Gen3 1.5" recently : vibrations are great and shifting is so real ! The braking/acceleration/mass transfer are very reduce and not very immersive compared to a real car.... it's certainly due to the tiny travel of the actuators 1.5". Is there another Gen 5 or Gen 3 of 3" or 4" that could give more travel and certainly more immersion ? I'm in Quebec city, where i could test this if available ?

Hey Will, I’m seriously considering this purchase, but hesitate on compatibility with the NLR F-GT Elite cockpit. With how NLR have handled the pedal mounting and with the angled uprights, is it going to be a tall order (even with a bit of DIY) to fit these onto the front of the rig? I just can’t see how everything will fit but wondered if you had any thoughts. Thanks and I appreciate the thorough review as always.

Hi Will ...I have a couple upgrades planed for my Rig. I've decided to add an IR head tracking system. VR is not in the budget ...put on hold for now. My main concern with VR is sweating & eye glasses. I'm extremely susceptible to heat resulting in sweating profusely. The VR would need some wild cooling!!! My question is two fold ...will the motion & movement effect IR Head Tracking? Next ...like you ...I use huge triples with some HUD elements like my map placed far to the left. If I turn my head to look at this map ...I assume this is going to play havoc with head tracking. (the map cannot be moved) What do you think?

If you have a solid mount such that the screens aren't going to be flapping all over the palce, and it doesn't push you over the weight limit, then it's better IMO to have the entire rig move with the screens in unison.

What is your take on dbox vs Sigma haptics? Near the end of the video you mentioned the dbox system being better than all other systems including sigma in a few areas, but didn’t say how. So the big question is whether the haptics is the feature differentiator between the two systems. If so, just by a little bit or a landslide? I suspect some people will be thinking to pick between Sigma’s 6” of travel vs Dbox Haptics because the two are close in price.

it won't be an issue, just don't use the haptic vibrations. Also large movements\crashes can slam the ground a bit and move the rig...so just limit that. Having Dbox and ptactuators scorpions though for the dbox price go with PT.

This is covered in the video. I won’t be taking the G3 off my daily driver rig. But the user experience is the same between the two. G3 is the more robust product but it also costs more and is arguably over-engineered for at-home sim racing use. I’d sooner pay less and buy the G5 if I were buying.

Queston is, would you spend the money on that dbox or do I miss something that provides more fun? So I am very much aware that the dbox actuators are superior to the next level racing motion plus. But if you had to give a percentage scale of how much the NLR motion plus compares ro this. Please tell me.. mainly because I like that in the future I can add the traction plus motion from NLR. And I am sorta at a cross roads. Only get 3dof from dbox or get 3dof from NLR with 2 motion plus with the ease of upgrading later... please share your thoughts and reasoning behind those thoughts if you were in my shoes.. thanks

Have been thinking about installing a D box system for a long time. I've been driving the SFX 100 system for 1.5 years. Does anyone have experience with both systems. At these levels of movement it doesn’t really make a huge difference. Ideally it’s better to have the screens move with the rig, but that also can cause the screens to wobble around quite a bit which can be distracting. So it’s a bit of a trade off either way.

The two are very close in performance overall. Dbox is ever so slightly smoother than the Sigma we reviewed, although I believe they have made improvements since. Both are great products but I’d struggle to justify the extra spend over the Sigma unless of course you want the additional features this offers.

no, having both dbox and pt scorpions, if you have Dbox money go with PT. Quadruple the travel, better actuators, better software with sim racing studio etc. Only dbox advantage is haptic integration but they are canned effects (they do work pretty well)

@@netlawman2001 I have :) Currently have DK2s on my rig, while waiting for the DK6 in a few weeks. I have not tried D Box because the Sigma customer service experience blew me away, and I cannot imagine it getting any more immersive than it already is. The DK2 have more travel already than the D-Box and I think on inclinations, that is definitely something you feel. I did prefer the DK6s because of that. If money is an issue, the DK2s are still fantastic. If not, I rather spend it on the DK6 and get a lot more than D Box - which is what I did :) I wouldn’t have bought it if I didn’t think the product was excellent, but the combo of excellent product plus amazing customer service is impossible to beat. The story behind Sigma is fun too. They lived and breathed racing cars, and are very passionate about their technology. It’s not just another tech product in a product line. Hit me up if you have any other questions.

The price is insane for what you get with this system. I don’t see any advantages over other motion systems that are compatible with SRS. I have the eracing-labs RS Mega+ and based on this video it can do the same as the d-box system at a quarter of the price. I think people believe d-box is inherently better because of the high price tag and use in professional markets (cinemas, amusement parks etc), but I think that it’s better to get a system specifically designed for home simulator use. As Will mentioned, d-box is designed more for the pro market, and hence you pay a hefty premium for “over engineering”, which does not give you more performance in home use.

With this much conviction that your RS Mega is just as good of not better, one has to ask, have you ever tried and do a side by side with Dbox or Sigma system? It's easy to judge a product by a spec sheet but real world experience is a whole different thing. Now if you made the comment to convince yourself your cheaper purchase is a much better choice then buy all means..

@@Jpowellsuckballs You are right, I have not tried them side by side, as I’ve never been at a place that has both options available to try. But I have tried older generation D-box (gen 1 I believe), as well as the commercial D-box equipment in various amusement parks and such. That of course is not the same as owning it, as the settings are out of your controll, and might not be set up to my taste. Bottom line is that what I see with D-box is commercial quality equipment with low travel (although fast, but it’s easy to be fast when your total travel is 1,5 inches…) and canned tactile effects on top. Compares to SFX clones or other 100/150mm actuators than can run on a Thanos with SRS I don’t see the big advantage. SRS can run tactile effects now, and they may not be as good as D-box, but I find it hard to believe they are 4 times the price worse. I use transducer for tactile effects anyways, mainly because I had them prior my actuators, and hence I still use them because they are already on the rig. At the end of the day motion is highly individual. I for example do not subscribe to the notion that “less is more” in all cases when it comes to motion. When I am in motion compensated VR and slam the brakes I want to feel like I’m decelerating, hence I turn the pitch to full tilt, and also use active belts. On the other hand, “g-forces” in turns I find is better to turn down as to much roll feels wrong to me. Likewise, I don’t want to be rattled around “just because it can”, so I don’t go overboard with heave and traction loss. In addition I also drive rally sims and flight sims on the same rig, and I’m sure a D-box with 1,5 inch travel would be underwhelming when landing a jump in DR2 compared to a longer actuator system. Hence, for my use, d-box is overpriced and does not provide what I want in a motion system. But if you want something bulletproof, plug and play with minimal setup time (I.e perfect for commercial establishments where “time is money” and “uptime” is extremely important), and use that in your home sim (which I would argue does not have the same requirements as a commercial establishment), then it just a matter of if you think 7-10k USD is worth it. For me it is not.

So if I got the money, it would be better to buy the g3 instead of the g5? I really don’t like the looks of the g5. The g3 looks more pro, nice and clean. I don’t know what they were thinking when they were developing the g5.

@@silentchill I'm not talking about my opinion, I'm referring to scientific studies and the like. I'll try to find the journal studies. They compared forward motion with lateral and roll movements. Since a sim isn't much moving forward there is a limit to other movements

@@ACasualRacer exactly my point you only have less on the other DOF if you hit the limits on another DOF. And considering surge and sway only last for a short time it very rarely would happen but if your pose profile is good that won't happen at all

Why not just remove the ferriet choke and then wrap some electrical tape around the cable on that spot, just enough so that the ferriet choke would clamp a little better. Instead of wrapping the tape around the choke, because that would be silly.

Well, sfx100 can be done according to your needs and for fraction of that cost... 2" of travel is ok for racing (for 3dof) but makes it useless for flying. Just $0.02 from a guy that built his own 6dof with 20" of travel ;)

@@boostedmedia you can check some videos on my channel. It is obviously not sfx100 that i did but it is the same way the actuator is done using ballscrew. Connected to Thanos controller and you can't feel any delay either hitting kerb or other cars. I even made one video recently showing how violent it can be during accident. On Bathurst 😜

$7000 and that ferrite choke implementation looks down right awful. Also if they didn't want to fit that big plug in there use a different connector...$7000 and the darn thing looks like a step backwards on the hardware front. Maybe that's why it's cheaper.

Looks pathetic next to stuff like a dof reality 6 dof that has much more travel in 3 more directions for half the price. Road cars move more than 1 inch during hard braking, making this look expensive and unrealistic which seems to be regressive
