Fanatec's newly released ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module is here! This essentially takes the shifter portion of the Podium Advanced Paddle Module and makes it available at a lower price for those who don't need the added functionality the Podium Module has to offer.
But is it really worth it over the stock paddles, and are you better off just buying an aftermarket piggyback style magnetic shifter mod?

Great timing, I've wanted these paddles ever since the limited edition came out with them. My regular V2 has small aluminum nubs. I even looked last night to see if these were anywhere. Today I get my Boosted fix and there they are. $99 bucks? Hell, that's a night of drinking that I'd regret in the morning. Ordered.

I really like the extra buttons on the APM. DRS on the top right paddle, you're always upshifting into a DRS zone anyway and it's right there, easy to turn it on and shift at the same time. And Overtake on the top left, above downshift. But it's basically $50 a button with Fanatec, which is a bit hard to swallow.

Great stuff, Will. The tapered screw stuff is actually called "countersunk". Countersunk screws when screwed all the way in will be flushed with whatever surface of the thing they're screwed into, compared to "round-heads" or "pan heads" which will stand out.

Dan and I found using the apm the top paddles for brake bias (particularly usefull for enduros when fuel burn is a big deal 120l v 10l at the end of a stint) and the clutches make standing starts very easy

Thank you for all your great content . As a newbie to the whole Sim racing world , I am looking to upgrade my g29 and am a little overwhelmed by all the choices and Tech out there. My question is what is the difference between the CSL Elite version 1.1 and the other CSL Elite model + on the fanatec website that's a few dollars more. what is the difference between the two ? I have a bad breaking pedal knee and am looking to upgrade to a load cell , what do you recommend in the middle price range . I will of course use your code to give you your commission from fanatec ! Thank you in advance for your advice. Keep up the great work and content on your Channel

06:29 does somebody know if it's possible to use a connector adapter 6 to 2 pins (If something like this even exists?) ? Because then it should work with the older steeringwheels as well, like Formula Black. Really sad they didn't get a solution to make thes directly compatible with older steering wheels. ;(

Hi There, thanks for the video👍 Just fitted the magnetic shifters to my X Box One hub however the paddles don’t work- checked correct fitting of plugs (in and secure) do I need to download software for these? Using this on PS4 at present, thanks Martin

i wonder if you could "Mod" in two more button type switches on these for each side . giving the connector has room for two more paddles (or in my case switches) on the podium hub. props for the guy at fanatec for thinking only two button module connectors in the hub was plenty.

I don't have any "inside information" if that's what you're asking. But I'd be surprised if there wasn't a Podium pedal set at some point.

Quick question. I installed the PAPM on the CSUH last night. Once you take the CSUH apart, the wires for the buttons and shifters are fed through channels, with little rubber grommets. It was extremely difficult to get those rubber grommets back in place perfectly while keeping the wires fed through them. I'm assuming the grommets are not really needed, just there to prevent dust from getting into the CSUH itself? As long as you're not pinching the wires and/or crimping them, it doesn't really matter? I did manage to get the grommets somewhat in place, not perfectly though. Once I'd get all six in place, the wire for the XBOX button would come out, I'd get that back in, and then some of the six would come back out. Felt like I was playing a game of Operation. Honestly, building the P1-X, all the add-ons, V3 Pedals, DD2, and the list goes on, I found installing the PAPM on the CSUH to be the most difficult, and time-consuming. The first time I had them installed, I mixed up the modules, and I had the gold paddles on top, so I had to undo everything, and reverse it all.

awesome video as always....if it wasnt for you i wouldnt have fanatec gear...just wished fanatec would release a 3mm thick replacement paddle set only for those who already have the APM...as like you have said the 2mm ones are a bit flimsy....i actually thought i cracked one the other day lol

Do you think the Xbox hub with an R300 wheel is too heavy to use with the 5Nm DD Pro (Gran Turismo edition)? I'm wondering if my wheel base would benefit from a lighter wheel and if I should've gone with the WRC wheel instead. I could've thrown in the Mclaren Formula style wheel for the same price as the R300 alone. Thanks for any help!

Sort of a weird question to ask, but is there any way to get the measurements of the mounting screws (distance apart from each other, and screwhole diameter)? I'm building my own wheel, and want to adapt those paddles to fit the wheel

7 weeks since I paid for the CSW bundle. 3 weeks since they said it would be available before I paid. 5 weeks until they now say it will become available. Still no production information update since April. And yet Fanatec can still get new product out to influencers... Great video and it does look like the sort of upgrade I'd be interested in. But ya can't upgrade what you don't got!

Unrelated to what look like awesome paddles, but have you had any issues with the ClubSport wheelbase pins breaking out of interest? We like the gear but between that and the shifter falling apart are wondering if we're the only ones with quality issues - Taz.

No. I had a broken pin on my Formula Carbon wheel a few years ago. It’s an issue that’s specific to the ClubSport Wheelbase 2.5. There is no give in the base side pin assembly. You’ll notice the pin assembly on the CSL Elite and DD1/2 is different.

It won’t hurt to use it but it’s not necessary. I had a pin break while using it.

I believe they have updated the APM paddles to 3mm since the issues with 2mm paddles were found

At first glimpse I thought it is a great idea but comparing $99 vs $179 I am not sure if the idea is soooo good. I guess the extra features are welcome for the extra bucks.

It really comes down to whether or not you'll use the extra features offered by the Podium Module. Personally I didn't find I use them as much as I thought I would. But others who use the dual clutch will likely disagree. Either way it's always good to have another option available.

I don’t understand how fanatecs website can say certain items are available at said date then a week later that date comes forward then another week later that date goes further pass the original date. I don’t get it. Is it due to Covid 19 or are fanatec just useless?? Seems as though I’ll be waiting at least 3 months before I get my gear $1800 worth that’s already payed for.

I think they came up short here, just not versatile enough as far as what rims this fits. One would think they would want all the third party sales currently selling for all the Formula Carbon, 918, BMW rims, etc out there. I really wanted these for the Formula Carbon as I don't want to spend the extra for the added buttoms of the V2 and now the added money for the magnetic.

@@boostedmedia You are sir what we would call in the UK a public information service. I am still using my G29, but with a set of v3 pedals (I followed your advice!). I'm saving up for a new wheel now. My original idea was to get a CSL elite with a fanatec GT/Universal hub rim or formula V2. I have however decided to go for the BMW rim instead (for now anyway) with a clubsport V2.5, as I think it makes more sense to invest the money in the base rather than the wheel. I may of course change my mind in the meantime....

I don't see why they couldn't have made it compatible with the ClubSport Steering Wheel Formula Black / Carbon / F1® Esports wheels by making it possible to use a 2 pin cable as well... Good video tho!

I thought the same but I'm pretty sure it's so that the unit can be correctly identified and shown in the drivers/fanalab. If it used the standard 2 pin connector, it would not be shown differently. Not that that really matters in the greater scheme of things. That's also just my own assumption. There may be other "official" reasons.

Oh I love fanatec, but SOOOO disappointed that these are NOT compatible with the Formula Carbon and the Formula eSport wheels. I was SO hoping the would be because I have BOTH wheels. This really sucks!!

@@gamerpodium13 In addition to Micks comment, you can buy fully custom shifter paddle units, such as Sim Racing Machines. They are fully made out of carbon fibre with 5mm Neodymium magnets or 3mm and they work exactly the same as these ones. I currently use them myself on the F1 Esports wheel and they work great, a massive improvement from the stock shifters. They cost around £100-£120 depending on formula paddles, GT paddles etc. and what wheel you put them on.

Billet aluminium manufacturing isn't cheap. These are 30-50% cheaper than many other similar shifters on the market. But yes piggy-back 3D printed magnetic add-ons are better value as I said in the video.

These are disappointing for me based on their compatibility. These guys are doing their best to push people out to other systems, at least in my experiences over the past 6 months.
