This controller has finally died. An electrical fault that means it wont turn on. I have tried it on the 12v power pack and the battery pack. Neither work. I noticed one of the electrical components was getting very hot when the switch was 'on'. It otherwise served faithfully for these 5 years without a single fault. Always showed good reliability and range. Has opened the door to a lot of gliding for me.Thanks.

Great videos Paul, got me into gliding. I bought the FlySky FS-T6, way better than the standard transmitter that comes with the RTF planes. But after a few months of using it, I have found that it has some limitations. Main one being, that you can't asign a mix to a switch, or I couldn't find out how to do it. Which in my case caused a crash. Added a little down elevator to throttle as I didn't like how my Fms MOA, climbed so rapidly under full throttle.(tried changing CG beforehand). Was not thinking through the causes of the mix in lauching. Moa in 3 pieces :( . All fixable. I've ended up upgrading to a Spektrum DX7 which you can have 5 flying modes, Launch,Cruise,Thermal, Speed and Landing, and add mixes to each mode, and still asign more to other switches, (though a lot more expensive, was looking at a FrSky TARANIS) Just my 2 cents worth. Got a FMS FOX though looking at getting a ASW28 after watching your Vids, like the idea of having a fibreglass fuselage.

Yes thats right - you cannot assign a switch to turn on/off a mix. You can only assign a different switch to a different throttle mode (programable curve), expos, throttle hold, or channel. Mixes are fixed once you are in the air. Your sounds like a common problem. The prop needs to be angled down more i think to compensate for more lift at higher speed. Good luck with your Moa. Asw-28 from hobbyking (which I have) is a blown plastic fuselage. It is an impressive model.

Far out Mate that was good value! I didn't know what crow or reflex were and all the rest but now I do. I like your presentation very relaxed without all the hand waving most of them do :-) did you know there is a later model fs6-i available that the community has hacked a new firmware giving telemetry and other features ?

Sounds cool. Yeah hand waving is for the birds.

Paul I can't tell you how many times I have watched your ASW28 videos. I look forward to more of them. I have decided myself to get this same model after much shopping and reading forums online as well as the FlySky 6 channel radio for it. I would be interested in hearing more about what channel numbers you assigned to which control and how you did the mixes for crow, full trailing edge camber, aileron/rudder, etc. Hey how does the ASW compare to your LET13 anyway? Thanks again for a terrific series of videos... I'm inspired.

Hi Aaron, thanks for you comments! I hope you have a good time flying the new glider when it arrives. It is a very cool plane. Amazing slope soaring if you can find a good spot. It is a very different plane to the let-13 - double the size and weight. Let-13 is slightly better at acrobatics, but not as good at soaring. I take it to parks mostly, whereas the ASW loves the beach, soaring high over the ocean and in uplift. Both a very good planes (I am planning to do a review of the Let-13 soon). Let me know how you get on with programming your controller, and I can write out the mixes etc. Basically, I have flaps on ch6 assigned to a variable dial. Ailerons on ch1 & ch5 mixed at 100/-100% to sync them (although 1&5 are reversed). And ch5 mixed with ch1 100/-100 and set on the other variable dial for flaperons/reflex. Combining flap and reflex with both variable dials gives you crow. Let me know how you get on. Paul

Thanks for an informative video. As a pilot I have to respectfully say that your understanding of the cause and correction of adverse yaw is incorrect, however.
@PaulGarbettNZ
@PaulGarbettNZ 4 года назад
I would be happy to hear a better explanation. This is just what i have been told.
@knievelhotmail
@knievelhotmail 4 года назад
@@PaulGarbettNZ The drag causing adverse yaw on the outside wingtip in a turn is caused by the creation of lift itself, not by denser air caught under the aileron. This yaw problem is exacerbated on gliders because the aileron has so much leverage on the fuselage due to being at the end of that loooong wing. The correction for yaw is rudder. In this case, leave your ailerons balanced, mix in more rudder.

@@knievelhotmail ok cool. Thanks for your explanation. Hope others read this as well. Cheers.

Hi Paul. Thanks for the review. Is there a way to reverse the throttle direction short of reversing the wiring between the ESC and motor? I'm aware of the "Reverse" function in the transmitter but this only reverses the stick throw direction. Thanks!
@PaulGarbettNZ
@PaulGarbettNZ 9 лет назад
Rick Brown No the throttle direction is usually hard-wired into the ESC and cannot be changed by the controller - at least, not by this controller. Often there is a setting on your ESC where you can program it to change the direction of spin. You would have to go through a series of beeps and select (by changing throttle from high to low) that function. Check you ESC manual if you have one, or google that ESC online. Different ESCs often have the same functions, with the first or second series of beeps being engine braking. Otherwise, you can just physically switch any 2 of your wire connections between the ESC and engine. Good luck.

Could a single channel be out? I have a new fly sky FS T4B for my sailboat. I use ch1 rudder ch2 sails. ch1 operates. ch 2 nothing so I switched up to see if the sail servo was the issue. Well it worked in ch 1. That tells me ch2 has issue. Any suggestions?

Why did you not get the 2014 New Version Flysky Fs-i6 2 4g 6ch Transmitter about the same price but you also get on board info and longer range and 4 batteries that last longer???
@PaulGarbettNZ
@PaulGarbettNZ 9 лет назад
Hi. Thanks for your question. That was my second choice actually. In the end I felt better about the T6 because it looked nice and had variable dials - which I use a lot on the glider. It also looked like it would cost a bit more to set up the telemetry (onboard info). But yes the i6 is a fine controller also if you would rather go for that. I think there is also a clone of it on Hobbykings website, made by Turnigy.

Hi Paul was thinking about this controller for a rc electric plane is the range good
@PaulGarbettNZ
@PaulGarbettNZ 6 лет назад
The range is very good on mine. But i have heard that some people have had problems with it. I think this could be caused by a faulty ariel. But as i said, mine is perfect and had the plane out to about 200m or more no problems at all.

Hello again Paul. I Have purchased the fst6 radio and l have set up dual alerons on mix1. however I am at a loss on how to program my camber or reflex. any tips you might have would be appreciated.
@PaulGarbettNZ
@PaulGarbettNZ 9 лет назад
+Trouttaranaki Hi. I have my ailerons mixed as CH1>CH5 100/100% (to sync the 2 ailerons), and then CH5>CH1 100/100% with the CH5 set to one of the dials. There is a function called 'aux channels' to set this. This way when I roll left/right both ailerons work (one is reversed) and when i roll the dial for CH5 they both go up (reflex) or down (camber). But it sort of depends if/how you have differential ailerons setup. For example, i have mine setup using the 'End Points' function as about 100/60% and 60/100% on each side for CH1 and CH5. This leaves all 3 mix channels open. But you can do this using just the mixes like: CH1>CH5 100/60, CH1>CH1 60/100, CH5>CH1 100/100%. You might have to play around with the numbers and negatives a bit to make this work though. Let me know how you go.

Thanks I'll have a shot at it after work and let you know. Thanks.

+Paul Garbett Variety Channel Hi again , I have managed to set up camber and reflex. There are still some issues, using camber chanell 5 alerion travels much further, and I can't correct this without stuffing up other settings. also during reflex the servos are at max travel and there is no movment left for up deflection for turning. I'd like to get camber and reflex on switches also , but I'm not sure if it's possible. hopefully this all makes sense.
@PaulGarbettNZ
@PaulGarbettNZ 9 лет назад
+Trouttaranaki Yes. You do lose a bit of control if you have the camber or reflex on too far. There's not really any way around it. You can lesson the problem with clever mixing, but i suggest using the rudder more once you have applied them. You might be able to get them working on a switch, but don’t forget they would then be full on or full off. I'm afraid the answer might be to just keep playing around with the mixing till it is satisfactory. If itt gets too complex, try doing it with the ailerons both equal at 100/100, and/or use the 'end points' function.

Hi paul, I have just purchased a Le Fish glider and would like to know if you think this would be a suitable TX. I am familiar withe glider its self and what it is capable of but im not that familiar with transmitters.
@PaulGarbettNZ
@PaulGarbettNZ 9 лет назад
Trouttaranaki Hi. Yes it would be suitable for any sort of glider - particularly because there is 6 channels and mixing capabilities which you can play around with. This is good if you have flaps on your glider for instance, or want differential ailerons etc. Otherwise you only really need a standard 4 channel controller. The mixing is very helpful for the bigger gliders because they tend to do funny things in the air, like adverse yaw, which you can correct for with mixing in rudder and/or differential ailerons. I also find that the 6 channels really comes into its own when you are slope soaring, because you tend to need more control over the amount of lift and speed. For example, my gliders all have flaperons dialed up which means i can correct the lift up or down slightly according to the amount of wind. Very useful.

I'm getting horrible range with my flysky only got 30 feet with my adopter and I lose controller. Any advice?
@PaulGarbettNZ
@PaulGarbettNZ 9 лет назад
I suggest that you ask for a refund from your seller. You cannot fly with that sort of range. I have been 200m easy but actual range should be at least 1km is setup perfectly. Check all your batteries are in right and voltage is good (10-12v). It is good practice to have both aerials vertical. There is a doughnut-shaped 'hole' of low transmission wherever the aeriel is pointing. My receiver aerial is taped vertically inside plane, and I have transmitter aerial bent straight up also. Perhaps your transmitter aeriel is not attached properly inside. You could try opening it and having a look in there for any obvious disconnection. Let me know how you get on.
@waleswideman1
@waleswideman1 9 лет назад
I switched out the receiver for a new one today and I elevated the antenna on the quad with a ink pen casing to get it away from the carbon fiber. I haven't been able to fly yet cause I'm waiting on props but did a range test from one end of my trailer to the other 70ft (it's raining cats and dogs outside) I think I fixed the problem.
@PaulGarbettNZ
@PaulGarbettNZ 9 лет назад
Wales Wideman Well done. Didn't realise you were using carbon sorry. Apparently carbon fibre will block your rf signal completely. So you will have to make sure that at least some part of your aeriel is above that carbon and visible from all angles - then you should be fine out to a kilometer or so. Sounds like you are on top of the problem now though.

xXSlash4x4Xx Hi. I don't know actually- because i have not tried this myself. It has a plug in the back that is designed to connect with pc or another controller, if you have the cable, but people have been saying that they could not get that to work on their computer. See comments below by Robo. Sorry i could not be more helpful.

Could you tell me how to setup throttle failsafe for my quadcopter?
@PaulGarbettNZ
@PaulGarbettNZ 9 лет назад
I don't know how to do that sorry. I suspect that you have to do that on the actual copter or at least its ESC. From what i understand the failsafe comes into effect when you loose the control link or it runs out of power - so should be on the copter. Can anyone else help out here?

hi. FlySky 2.4Ghz 6CH receiver FS-R6B CT6B for FS-TH9X 9CH l Receiver 11.1 v. Will work?
@PaulGarbettNZ
@PaulGarbettNZ 9 лет назад
It might. I am not sure though. The FS-R6B reciever uses the AFHDS (automatic frequency hopping digital system). So check to see if your receiver uses that and it should work. FlySky bought out a new version AFHDS2 which is slightly different and would be incompatible.

I am not sure because I have not tried either of those. However, there is a plug in the back that I beleieve you can connect the controller to something. It is used for a buddy controller link, but I think you might be able to get a USB and connect it to a computer. Sorry I couldnt be more help.
