IGFTW Ep. 37 is all about a special collector's item for retro gamers and manga fans. On July 7th, 2018, Nintendo release their third entry in their popular “plug n' play” Nintendo Classic Mini line-a gold Weekly Shonen Jump 50th Anniversary limited edition mini Famicom! I pre-ordered it a while back, and now that it's out, how about an unboxing and an overview/opinion on each of the 20 manga-based games included in the console? No? Well, that's what you're getting anyway.

UPDATES & AMENDMENTS: -I mention the Famicom Mini/NES Classic coming out after the Switch, but it was released at the end of 2016, the year before. -This edition of the classic mini Famicom is actually dirt cheap these days! Probably because the games in it are so...underwhelming.

Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!) Don't do it. The video is informative and well made. The comment is enough maybe add of those pop up comments in the vid. Unique vid would hate to see it taken down. I don't have much knowledge on import etc, videos like these help me explore video games. It did make me question my own knowledge as a video game enthusiasts lol.

Where these licensed games always made on the cheap? I'd say that Western developers had a much better grasp of the NES, but when you look at western IP's developed by Japanese studios, they're often of vastly superior quality.

I'm going to be in Canada for a little more than two weeks for work tomorrow, so I wanted to put out something for you all to watch before then, so hope you enjoy, even if it's kind of a "throwaway" topic/video. I would have put this out earlier, but I ran into a bunch of technical problems and lost a couple of days of work on this episode...also, I haven't forgotten about the giveaway, I'll put that out as soon as I get back from work--I wanted to put out a "real" video before then, and I've been too busy to get the logistics down anyway, so it works out best for me that way. As far as the Aliens MSX video is going, for the five people that are waiting for that--haven't had the time or motivation to put much work into it, but I'm hoping after returning from my trip, it will be smooth sailing.

Dude, that gold Famicom is SICK looking! Not to mention the game lineup on the consoles is super neat. I swear I've played Red Dragon King before, but I could be totally wrong. I just remember not being able to understand the game, and those graphics look super familiar. Awesome video bud!

I have that DS Nino Kuni game I got from Play Asia as I love Nino Kuni so much and also Hayao Myazaki. The best game pin this looks like Fantastic World which obviously took inspiration from Mario Bros I would say. Awesome Video, Jimmy. Dragon Quest was included because the ip was created in a colaboration between the Shonen Jump Magazine and Enix, i recommend to you a great interview with Akira Toriyama editor and Dragon Ball co-creator, Kazuhiko Torishima, he explains how he was the brain behind Dragon Quest.

That's definitely something collectors will be fighting over in the future. It's got pretty much all the niche qualities a gaming collectable needs. Keep it safe so you can sell it to buy a house one day maybe. Just trying to imagine how poor a Marvel based NES classic would be for outside Japan. There's probably enough games for one but it would be a bit dire. To match the quality of games they could give it a limited edition cigarette stained yellow look.

I do like the gold colored case, but IDK how badly I want one of those.... would be cool to try Dragon Quest without having to worry about the passwords (just drop a savestate and pick it up again later) but surely a lot of those are better if you're fluent in Japanese (which I'm not... not really) but that was a great look at the console and the included games!

I collect the Japanese minis. There are a few games here that really interest me and look superb. Unfortunately 20 untranslated games does not seem paying $80 or more. I'm still tempted considering I really like Famicom games. If this would have had more titles it would be a no-brainer.

I wanted to buy this for the cool box and the fact it's gold but after watching the titles maybe u am far better of buying some moor games i will play more on my switch. It would cost me $218 AUD to import it which is just s little on the expensive side for the games you get. I could buy 4 or 5 good physical editions on the switch. I still really want it in a way though. You never know I might get it

Ya know. Seeing and hearing that dragon quest game made me think of that horror jrpg game, "Nanashi No Game" on the DS which I'm assuming is what that game is loosely based on. I know Halloween is a few months away and a DS capture card is a bit cumbersome, but would you ever consider a Halloween special on that? Yeah, I know its asking a lot but I'd be great material!

I feel Dragon Quest was included not just for it having its own manga. One of the biggest reasons why Dragon Quest became such a phenomenon was because it was featured in Shonen Jump with Toriyama doing the character designs. They hyped the fuck out of it...

Anton Nielsen I believe Dragon Quest was also included because Jump had 1 or 2 DQ manga series serialized in it. Dai no Daibouken (Dai's Great Adventure) and Abel Densetsu (The Legend of Abel) I believe.

They didn't include Hokuto no Ken 2 (released in America as just "Fist of the North Star" with some minor cuts)? That one was much better than the first game. (Still not a great game, but better than a lot of the stuff that was included.)

Jeff Jacobson The game was originally going to be named "Ken the Great Bear Fist", the name that Toei gave almost all non-Japanese releases of FOTNS, but then Viz (who was a small division of Mirage Comics at the time) jumped in and told Electro Brain who was the publisher of the game in the US, to change the name of the game to the name of their localized version of the manga that we all know now as Fist of the North Star. Despite the game being based on the second half of the series, the box art and cart art shows Kenshiro and Toki fighting.

For like 95% of the people who picked up the Famicom Mini, I'd say the same. Good for people who grew up reading Weekly Shonen Jump and playing these games back when they were new.

Jimmy Hapa (Import Gaming FTW!) It's not just that because I like most of the manga series that are in this JUMP version, however, I don't have the urge to play these. Just because they are based on popular manga does not mean I should play it regardless if they are bad (they look bad to me), but that's just me.
