This is my review of the Harbor Freight Propane Tourch www.harborfreight.com/propane-... Check out my facebook page and show some support please. AlvarezMetalWorks
Been using one of these for a while now. Works great!!! Buying tip - don't buy the Harbor freight more expensive one with the igniter. The cheaper one without the igniter works better and is $10 cheaper. The one with the igniter has a different head that blows out the flame at full throttle. Great unit for searing steaks and other food when bbq'ing.
Thanks for explaining that there are threads on the inside of the propane tank. I had no idea and was trying to figure out how to get my torch working. Much appreciated for that tidbit.
I picked up a similar one at harbor freight for around $30 last summer, it works great for starting camp fires, burning a leaf pile, torching weeds or getting rid of gophers/ground wasp nests. The one that I got looks very similar but also has a built in sparker
Yeah it's the same exact thing with a ignition switch. I really get quite a bit of use out of it. I didn't think I would use it nearly as much as I do.
Way cool! It doesn't seem critical to have, but it's a great way to take care of things in a unique manner! Plus, you get to scare the crap out of your neighbors, and it doesn't get much better than that. Thanks for your review. Instant like and suscribe.
These things are great for lighting the charcoal grill, a little overkill, but hey....it's fun. On the plus side it ticks off the neighbors too. Thanks for posting, enjoy your vids.
+Alvarez Metal Works I bought one off of Amazon last year I didn't like the orange hose it came with so I had a high pressure hose made at my local propane service. I used it for heat treating knives, annealing and rehardened work on abused axes and other tools.
Been eyeing this up for a while now and now with all of the snow and ice at the end of my driveway I'm going to pick one up. I hate breaking up ice! Thanks for the cool video!
I've tried melting ice and snow with this. It takes forever regardless of how hot it is. You'd be better off using hot water for that. This torch has come in handy for me though. Just not for melting snow and ice.
This thing works excellent for heat treating knives for the do it at home knife maker. A hell of a lot better than blowing through MAPP gas on a BernzOmatic torch. That's for sure.
I'm not too far from Syracuse. I was thinking about getting one of these. That large cup at tip makes a big difference. That thing is almost like a jet engine. Might opt for smaller cup tip. Helpful vid
I've been forging with wood for a while.. to me it is by far the least inefficient way to heat steel. this torch has me thinking about a simple gas forge just for heating knife blades. it cost less then 10 dollars here to get a tank filled.. about 16 for an exchange tho. I will wait on a harbor freight coupon in the mail and go pick 1 up. thanks for the video
I have no idea. I've never used it anywhere long enough to even have an idea of how long that will last. I don't suspect it will last that long though. As you seen it puts out a pretty serious flame.
not sure. If I have to guess I'd say yes but only if you create some sort of oven type setup to contain the heat. If I was trying to do that I would use something with a more controlled flame.
Great video on a cool toy... I'm looking to use this for a specific purpose. I noticed a diffusing baffle in the bell shaped end but was wondering if the bell is threaded on and is it removable? If so, is there a chance that you (or anyone here who has one) has tried, or would try burning the torch without the bell attached and let me know if it is even possible? Thanks.
Yeah I really like it. I've used it to start my wood stove, preheat metal, burn suspension bushing so I could remove them, melt snow, scare the kids lol, warm up some banner material so it would lay flat, and I'm sure I'll be burning weeds with it soon too. Good buy for sure.
"That's fuckin' cool in my book" I couldn't have said it better myself. I have seen these used as forge burners as well (from HF). I will be picking one up only because it is fuckin' cool in MY book as well. Thanks for the vid!
Alvarez Metal Works I'm gonna try and shoot video of it. I'll let you know. I got here after checking out a thing called the Searzall that hooks up to one of those smaller tanks. It's hard to come by and is much more expensive. I think this HF torch will work great at a fraction of the cost. I'm geeked. I'm gonna do it tomorrow on a thin strip steak.Should freak the neighbors out,
I work at HF and I've been eyeballing this as a potential burner for a foundry. I've been wondering what the heat output is, the box and description on the site only say that it reaches 3000° F, which is obvious because that's about the temp that propane burns at in a normal atmosphere. What I'm interested in is the BTU. Is this thing gonna have enough output to melt metal (aluminum and copper mainly but hopefully iron eventually) in a potentially large foundry? I heard what you said about people using it in a forge, which to me indicates that it should be totally usable for a foundry, might just have to extend the flare, or find some way to introduce forced air...
Just since an hour i used propane gas torch to straighten a half leaf spring it is wonderful But my advice is dont use it inside the house . use it in an empty room or workshop because its flame great and be careful
Does anyone know if there is a restrictor or regulation of gas pressure in this torch? According to the publication NFPA58, a tank with 20 pounds of gas at 70°F has a pressure of 145 psi, at 90°F would have 180 psi, at 105°F would have 235 psi, and at 130°F would have 315 psi. Was just wondering if the supplied orange China hose could handle those pressures if unregulated. Thanks!
have u try using waste oil or used motor oil in a pan inside the barrel for alternative fuel other that wood , I have this same torch , i live in Florida , i don't need it for heating , but I want to know if it works to burn used oil in a pan for outdoor fire pit
"Thick ice on the steps?" Depends on what the steps are made out of. Mine are wood. For me, the fastest way to dislodge a thick layer of ice on wooden steps is a sledgehammer. The wood flexes & moves, dislodges ice with just a few hammer blows. Really noisy, though.
Can i use this for abarrel fire. Like put a few logs in and from the top light it till its self suffecient. Im worried bout the hose geting hot or comin back in idk.
I've lit many of wood stove fires with this. Not very efficient but it does get the job done. Just be careful and keep the hose from being hot. It all boils down to how much you trust yourself to not do something dangerous. If you're not comfortable find someone to help you that is.
I got one today with the lighter on it right now it's 1:42 am I'm about to use it for the first time to burn out a drum I'm turning into a smoker I figured it would be more fun to do at night🙌😂 I'm extremely excited like a kid n a toy store how funny ROFL
Be careful I was using it in the dark and accidentally melted a couple small holes in the hose. For the price maybe cheaper to buy another just for the hose.
A rocket mass heater willheat your shop for days on a few pieces of scrap wood. Takes a few days to make. Twigs and sticks burn vertically. After fire is out, the heat stays for a day or two. No electricity, no gas no money. Costs less than $200 to make.
I've done a bunch of research on these and even have a few videos about it. My shop is not the ideal place for one of these. However it could work if I spent a ton of money to properly insulate my shop. I'd also have to make it movable. I don't own my shop.
To those that didnt realize there were threads on the inside of a propane tank valve.....have you never watched your propane supplier fill a tank? They use the inside reverse threads!!!
Blowing stuff up and stupid shit ! lol that's the majority of us men :-) mine is mostly for lighting my offset smoker here in the UK, happy burning mate
Does anyone have any idea how long a full tank of propane last with this? Trying to decide if this will be worth the money for weed control. If the tank only lasts 30 minutes or something really low, this can get expensive.
+broderp Not 100% sure but I'm pretty sure a BBQ tank will list you quite a bit longer than 30 min. I base that on the how long I run this while starting my wood stove.
I have a propane torch, the max temprature is 3500 degrees fahrenheit, wich is around 600 degrees above the melting point of steel. So yes you can melt silver
just bought one and it is a real BEAST! spooked my neighbors until i told them i didn't want to use "agent Orange" to get rid of my weeds. does a great job and fast.
the "regular" is the valve on the tank. There just isn't a guage. Also a "regulator" wouldn't making something like this safe or unsafe. The fire and the person using it, is what makes it unsafe lol.
ok sir thanks can i ask a question sir ? if the tank is been emptied while the torch is on flame is there any chances that the flame will get inside "return " the tank?
