This episode fixes Spock! This totally explains how Nurse Chapel is towards Spock in TOS. It isn't her pining away at unrequited love, but rather it was her stepping aside so Spock would become the person that ALL of the universe needed.
That is an astute and insightful observation. Thank you for sharing. You are correct. This series adds layers to so much of TOS. And TOS had lots of layers already. It's done well.
I loved how that at the end, they even peeped into OUR reality! The "TOS- era". "The what?" "Those Old Scientists". That was super! They reached out to us the fans with that one as well!
26st as a Boomer of 63 who watched TOS as a kid in the 60's & 70's..... I loved this episode.....I found myself smiling the whole time / and laughing out loud at a few scenes... a #10 !!!
I am not a fan of Lower Decks, or animation. But I got the jokes, and thought “they are really having a ball with this show”. You can sense the amount of humor. Loved the nod to “Trouble With Tribbles”, using the same exact grain.
You’re the antidote to the old hater-fans (my age, 64) who don’t realize much about time and space, let alone psychedelics (specifically DMT, a synthesized version of a naturally occurring brain chemical) can you in real life to cartoon lands that make this crossover episode look tame. The crossover is valid - and hilarious.
Algo sent me. Agree on A. I'm theorizing animation is how Spock visualizes mind melds, and lower decks is in meld vision? It's the episode to beat, going forward, franchise wise. They've caught up to Stargate, in brand world building, in my opinion.

TOS stands for those old scientists! Wait...I get it. As already said, I loved this episode. Like you, I thought it was one of the most enjoyable episodes of Trek ever made. It was just fun, fan service. I agree with the A. Although, man, besides the 'Riker' comment, I really wish there'd been at least one more reference to Riker or Picard. Or what if they listed their favorite Enterprise captains in order and mentioned Kirk to someone who overheard! Ok. Done now.
This you give an A? Your excitement is obvious and its good to see. I love how animated (no pun intended) you are about this. The points you raise, however, is what sells your grade. I disagreed and was surprised by your grade when I first started watching. Why? I came into this episode with bias, who doesn't with any. I'm not a fan of Lower decks, and I felt dragged through an episode of Lower decks with episode 7. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't my thing. It isn't the fact is animated, I love Prodigy, loved the Animated series when it came out in the 70s (yes, I too watched ST back then, in fact started in 60s, original airing), its just that Lower Decks style and humor were not to my liking. A preference. As for quality, it is good and you raised good points with taking a chance, pushing boundaries, and balancing the two different types of shows, all done well. You also reminded me that it did make a few very strong points, like the Chapel-Spock affair, we could see Chapel's eyes wet when she began to realize where she was taking Spock. Many good aspects about this episode I would have overlooked without your review. The grade A surprised me, but I see why you gave it that grade and I can agree with it while still saying so far, this is my least favorite episode of SNW. That is not to say I hated it, it is still on my not to be skipped while binge-watching and it says a lot about SNW overall, how each episode is its own gem. This was far better than any Lower Decks episode I have ever seen. My one concern with Strange New Worlds was them playing it safe with themes and story points we've seen before. They have done them well and updated them for a modern audience, but it never seemed like they were taking big risks. This was a brave risk and I appreciate that. Based on the trailer for what's ahead, they are about to take an even bigger risk. If this was the show every week, no. But as a change of pace and a switch hit, it is a hit. I absolutely loved this episode. I had a smile on my face for so long that it was painful, which had not happened to me in a long time. I will love this episode forever!
