Super accurate review. I just unboxed my OXO cookie press and used it last night to make my annual Spritz cookies and was so disappointed! Everything you covered in the video is what I experienced. Making Spritz cookies each year with my mom at Christmas time is one of my favorite memories. I wish we still had her old school press from the 60s or 70s - it made the perfect spritz cookies.
I agree! The old school presses are much better. We still have 1 old school press we use every year and continue to pray it doesn't break so we can still have this type of Christmas cookie every year!
This is my first year wanting to make spritz. All the reports are saying the OXO is the best press. Your very real makes me believe I should either go with piping instead of pressing OR find a decent vintage press like I’ve seen used in the past. Because piping or vintage presses are proving to me to give the more perfect and accurate cookies I’m looking for. Thank you so much for not pretending.
I just used mine for the first time last night and got a bunch of tiny cookies like you said. I also ran into the cookie not sticking the the sheet issue. I was given an old school cookie gun as well that gives you the option of cookie thickness. I wish the OXO gave you that option.
HOW TO FIX STICKING ISSUES: Putting your (clean, dry) pans in the freezer while mixing the dough (and in between bakes) will help the cookies stick. If there is any oil/grease on your pan or if it’s warm then the pressed cookies won’t stick.
I am thinking of buying a cookie press. It's between the OXO and the Rikon-Kuhn. One of my favorite cookies are Cheryl's Cookies with icing, so now I have a copy-cat recipe of the Buttercream cookies with icing. My question is: Can I make the round cookies with no plate? I want to be able to decorate with icing. Great video btw.
Never did sadly. Definitely not the perfect device! Maybe try refrigerating the dough for a few minutes so it's a bit stiffer. Maybe that'll help with the stickiness?
While I haven’t used this exact press, I’ve made spritz butter cookies for years with my mom, and we always ran into trouble when the dough got too warm/soft. So try popping it in the fridge to cool it down for a bit before pressing more cookies. That always worked for us - good luck!
I made butter cookies, very small and finally just rolled out remaining dough and Shaped cookie dough by hand. It would be great if the cookies were larger!!! Thanks for the video!! Merry Christmas 🎄
I prefer the original one. You can put more dough in the tubey thing, and the cookies come out a little larger. Though the Good Grips one has more cookie shape options, and there's less "elbow grease" since you just push the button and it pops out. I still use the Good Grips one for the shapes though!
@@almostamandax Thank you! I've been looking at them on ebay but they are all in the USA. (I'm in the UK) If you want a laugh see my video of my 'beefed up cookie press' 😂
Your dough is too thick!!!! It should be very soft and sticky. I saw a video with the OXO cookie press and they came out fantastic! In fact, I searched on Amazon today and didn't see it. I'm glad to that you got it from Amazon. I'll check it out again!
