This game introduced me to cooking games. I honestly wanna get it and play it again, but I have no idea how. The closest I've gotten to playing something like that is Cooking Mama, which by no means is like this gem.

Love this game. Like Jay, I too first played it on the Jam Pack disc, so I had to eventually get a copy based on that. Speaking of cooking games, I was considering reviewing Cooking Fighter Hao.

I remember playing the demo on a Playstation Underground issue I think, and the English translated title was called "I'm the Chef". It was so cool to try out some imports in this manner on a North American console. I remember that you had to reset the Playstation to get back to the main menu of the demo disc, while most other American demos you could simply press start+select to exit out. The other import demos I recall PSU having included Tail Concerto, a Tamagotchi game, a paper airplane competition, a crayon drawn looking platformer, a giant RC robot (spiritual sequel was R.A.D. on PS2), and a puzzle game where you control a hamster driving a forklift to move boxes around. Great stuff!
@ImportGamingFTW

+metalslugfest I think I'll have to track down a copy of this demo disc for myself! I only had one PlayStation Underground demo, and it didn't have anything particularly good on it.

Damn Jimmy! At it again with those awesome import reviews!!! Not gonna lie, I had a short stint with the cooking mama games. Thumbs up for the continuous food service puns in this video. I didn't think you would take em all the way to the end, but you did.................
@ImportGamingFTW

+Avalanche Reviews Ha ha, thanks Jared. I ended up tossing about 90% of the bad food puns for the final script, as this was supposed to be the "entree" in a "three course meal" of a food game trilogy I scrapped a while back.

Great video again! It's fun to see some PS1 imports as well, as my Japan-only game knowledge mostly consists of only the Famicom. This one is especially interesting for me, as I used to be a cook until I realized that it's pretty much the unfriendliest job in the world. It's pretty much just like how the game plays. :D I'll be sure to look out for this one. Also, the controller "hacks" in the official guide are hilarious. And I thought that Splatoon was the only game that encouraged you to modify your controller in some weird way. You know how you can't use any motion controls when playing with a Pro Controller? Well, if you strap a Wiimote to it with a rubber band or something, you can.
@ImportGamingFTW
@ImportGamingFTW 8 лет назад
+Kristóf Muzsik Thanks for always watching, and I'm glad some people are learning a bit about the PS1s robust library of great Japan-only games from these videos. I like to try to cover games from a variety of platforms, but I do prefer PS1 stuff. You were a former cook, huh? I waited tables when I was in college, and I remember how miserable the kitchen was at one place. I will say that if you work as a chef for one of those gimmicky "hibachi" restaurants, you've got everything working in your favor...unless you light yourself on fire accidently, which happened to one poor guy I worked with. I've seen that Splattoon controller setup, and it's wonderfully stupid. XD

Another great video as usual! ;) I hadn't heard of this one before. I like the idea behind the analog stick controls. It reminds me of what games like Heavy Rain try to do with their control scheme, mimicking real life motions. And I think I mentioned doing a PS2 compilation before, which I still want to do, and might make it a collaboration.... I still plan on doing the whole Valkyrie thing, but I just kind of am not in the mood. I had a really long script for the second video written, and did hours of scans and outside video work...but overall I wasn't happy with the script, and will rewrite it. I want to do this series justice, so I'm maybe thinking about it too much... Anyway, yeah, Seaman had a few variations on the PS2, as well as a proper sequel, all of which I have but have not played through yet. And the game you are asking about is Shapeshifter, I believe, for the PC Engine Super CD. :)
@ImportGamingFTW
@ImportGamingFTW 8 лет назад
+Net Spectre LMAO, yeah, there's a lot of stuff out there I've said I wanted to do videos on, and I genuinely do want to cover them all, but it's mostly due to time that I haven't gotten around to any of them. I look forward to the "tradition" happening each video. ;)

So strange that you would mention that one and I would be currently playing it--it's an obscure game for sure! I've played it for 14 hours and am about 80% finished with the game, by my estimations. What's up with frogs being great chefs? Reminds me of Jean from Breath of Fire 2. He's a giant frog and even has his own cooking competition. Too bad you're locked up in the castle and forced to partake in it to continue on with the story. ANYWAY! This game looks so Japanese, which is appropriate, sure. I'm not sure I'd be any good at this. Oh you suck at it too, then yeah I don't stand a chance. The guidebook looks funny as hell with those gimmicky solutions to using the controller. Now I want some tasty saimin. Looks like you're eating good at the restaurant. Can't say the same for your at home choices. You need more natto! I bought some quail eggs and dried persimmons at Nijiya Market last week. So good. Yeah I'm hungry. Ok you faka, time to end this. Great video on a weird game. Maybe I'll check out that Popcorn guy. +Mimk Koko I have a few Mr. Driller games, but not that one, unfortunately. I'd love to play it, and will definitely pick it up if I see it in the wild!

+RarefoilB Just like you, I'm not a fan of seafood. In fact, I hate it, and don't eat any at all...but I still find a lot of great food in Japan! You'll be fine, there's great stuff here for us "filthy carnists."

The guys that made Cook, Serve, Delicious must have been influenced by this. That game has a very similar intense style and a bunch of the game mechanics seem to have been carried over.

+Mellow Gaming I had to look up "Cook, Serve, Delicious," and yeah, the developers for that game were definitely, uh, "inspired" by Ore no Ryouri. ;) Looks pretty fun.

It's well worth playing. Quite intense in Co-op mode too. It's a little less focused on being accurate and more about being real quick.

+Mellow Gaming "Co-op mode" has piqued my interest in this game even more. ;)

It's a weird sort of co-op. One of you has to work the counter lining up the patrons while the other makes the food. What makes it tricky is that the chef isn't in 100% control of what he's making next so you need to be real good at communicating with your buddy to keep the game's flow going. You have to start shouting out what order you're doing next to make sure you keep the pace up.

Did I drop an F bomb, though? I'm pretty sure I said "phuck"...as in Eazy-E's "Real Muthaphukkin' G's. It's a lot different from "fuck." And regarding the beer...I actually cheesed it and replaced the good beer from that can with some cheap malt licky quality booze...so not much of a waste. Anyway, thanks for watching mang.
