Great video and thank you for your brutal honesty. Its refreshing to hear someone praise the 2.5 Turbo engine and not just talk about the engine noise.

In this , Iiameyre, it is a much better combination. In addition, Porsche has a huge history with mid-enige sportscars with 4 cyl displacement.

Finally somebody said the truth that 2,5 suit better to GTS than naturally aspirated 4,0. Janko fully agree with you.
@tomoldigs1353
@tomoldigs1353 3 года назад
I have to say, no! The 4.0 definitely fits to the 718, no rattle and banging of the 2.5 and absolutely linear at the accelerator, doesn’t matter which gear or speed. Got mine, one of the first customer cars, with manual gearbox, in June and did more than 5k on mountain passes and twisty roads, absolutely brilliant. I owned a 981S with PDK before, which was louder, but the 718 is definitely is more precise to drive, both cars with PTV and PASM. I drove the 9924S, bevor I ordered the 718 GTS 4.0, what made the decision absolutely clear to me, the 911 got to big, heavy and silent for my thoughts, of a drivers car. The 718 GTS 4.0 with manual gearbox is a drivers car and can be used as a daily driver, even during the winter, with proper winter wheels. The GTS is not a GT car and and that’s the difference to the GT4 / Spyder. Maybe your press-car had the optional softer -10mm PASM, instead of the standard -20mm, and the engine mounts are adaptive, what you can feel with Sport or Sport+ mode, instead of standard mode. And about the red callipers with the python green, no, there are better combinations, black painted callipers or a GT silver painted car, with the red callipers, like mine. @Janko Lind go ahead!

Hello Thomas, what made you want to upgrade? I have 981S as well. Love it. But a small part of me wish it had a little more power. I am not sure if getting a GTS would be worth the jump. At this point I would have to pay nearly $60k more for a overall ‘similar’ car. Look forward to your thoughts. Thanks in advance.
@tomoldigs1353
@tomoldigs1353 3 года назад
@@jhan4915 My 981S was one of the first cars, from 2012, very well equipped and only 45k km on it, at the end, that’s because the first owner did only 10k in nearly 5 years. Compared to that car, the 718 GTS 4.0 is a other level, way more precise to drive and the engine has a lot more power, doesn’t matter what gear and speed. Despite of those main reasons, I have a better seating position with the adaptive Sport Plus seats, instead of the ventilated standard seats. Besides of that you get a refined infotainment with digital Radio and Apple CarPlay, especially the first I’ll get necessary, during the next years, when they switch off the regular radio stations. That’s why 😃

@@matthewlocker4961 Yes I did, there is enough Power and Torque, but I don’t like the sound, especially not this banging while downshifting,. The 2.5 is permanently loud, but it’s not a nice sound, what I think is necessary, driving with open roof.

@@tomoldigs1353 Tom: Thanks for the update and it's good to hear. To many people beat up the 2.0/2.5T's without any experience with the car. You have so that's all that can be asked. If you aren't familiar with the Soundaktor, this I believe is a huge part of the reason so many people don't like the sound of this car. Porsche, in their infinite wisdom, decided to pipe fake engine sound into the car. All it does is ruins the cabin ambience, causing drones & other horrible side effects. Most people I know who have the T4 have made the removal of the Soundaktor fuse their first change to their car. For me it was & the fuse is never going back in. MOO & FWIW

Sorry Janko but with respect I don't agree re your point about the 4.0l not suiting the chassis of the 718. The 2.5l puts way more stress on the chassis than the 4.0l! You only need to look at the power delivery! You haven't really covered the lag issue either. Next up suspension.vs your Spyder, I guess in Sweden you have smooth roads, but when things get a bit less smooth for example here in the UK, I imagine you may appreciate the softness of the GTS, it's probably a better road car here. For me I sensed a bit of a chip on your shoulder this car should of course be compared with the Spyder, it's the road orientated version and probably the comparison most buyers will do in their head before signing on the bottom line. Ps nothing wrong with red calipers but they look much better when you spec Guards Red 👍

Completely agree. I think Janko's opinion is very respectable but very subjective, and surprisingly does not coincide with the general opinion expressed in the many, many reviews about this car that I have read and seen. I have a Boxster GTS 4.0 with PSAM -10mm since July 2020 and it has been 11,000 km so far on all kinds of roads for pure driving pleasure

Dear Test Drive Scotland, thank you very much for contributing to our community. In regards to UK VS Swedish roads, I can not make any comparison. Have not done much driving in the UK. I've driven the 718 a lot and I stand by my word, the 4.0-liter engine does not fit the chassis as well as the 4-cyl engines dose. Please let me remind everybody that I know all about the 4.0 GTS long before I ordered my Spyder.
@TDS981
@TDS981 3 года назад
@@JankoLind thanks for responding, I don't doubt that it is your opinion, I just don't understand it. I'm a 981 owner with the gentler but intoxicating 3.4, I've had a lot of wheel time in the 718, I prefer the 2.0l it's a really nice road car especially in manual form so we agree on that. The 2.5S, not so much, whilst it had great performance I felt it was laggy and not quite so smooth, with some spikes so it surprises me to hear that you think it's better suited than the smooth na 4.0l. I guess Porsche felt the same hence the switch. I don't want to get into the sound, the 2.0l I can handle but no one wants to hear that 2.5l sound when enjoying the car with the top down it's almost offensive 😂. What's your stance on these points? I don't think having the same engine in the GTS dilutes the Spyder, it's still very special with the aero and great that they gave it the same treatment as the GT4 this time around. I'll be getting some more wheel time in the 718 GT4 in the new year but here in Scotland we need a lot of suspension compliance for some of our best driving roads.

Janko, your comment that said, “the Boxster playground is much larger” makes total sense. I’m currently number 2 on the allocation list here in Pa. For a GTS 4.0 manual and I’m trading in my 992 due to size. A 911 was on my bucket list but it’s the wrong one, maybe a 991 size is better. Thanks for your passion on these fine vehicles.

"The playground for the Boxster is much larger." Boy, that summed up the tie breaker for me, and of course, $$$. I had the first 991.2 in California for awhile and loved it but felt I could never get the most out of it given my location and everything else going on in my life. Fast forward to '23 and I test drove the Boxster on the same 1 mile canyon road near the dealer and it was a blast and that is what sold me. I get mine in May and can't wait.

@@JankoLind I understand your comment of engine history with Porsche. Very few other engines sound as good as a 6cyl NA Porsche engine nearing the top of its rev range in my opinion. It’s very distinctive and unlike any other 6cyl. It’s a shame that turbo charging has been made necessary to hep combat emissions at the detriment of characterful noise. This is why I purchased a late low mileage 991.1. I also have a Cayenne Diesel S so I also know the advantages of torque in everyday driving. We are lucky to have the choice, different solutions and no right or wrong. Happy Christmas, happy driving.

Porsche GT product is so different, so emotional it’s hard to explain. You got it so correct. @MrRandomTwat
@MrRandomTwat 2 года назад
@@tennismaroc They are absolutely delusional. There is a slight difference in the feel from suspension - it's more adjustable, firm and more responsive, but the difference is negligible and mainly in their head (and tires as they impact the feel quite a bit). The drivetrain obviously feels the same because it is the same and the GTS 4.0 will be faster in a straight every time because of lower weight and less downforce. Stock-to-stock GTS 4.0 is 95% of the same car, but in a more liveable package and better comfort options available (entry&drive, front sensors, adaptable cruise, etc. etc). If you put 295's on the rear (which you can do on stock rims), you're hard pushed to feel any difference on public roads.
@alf_1779
@alf_1779 3 года назад
One of the benefits of the "base" 718 Boxster is that you don't get red calipers and that you get the less powerful 2 litre engine, which just means you can enjoy a larger portion of the cars performance on public roads. Some times I even miss my old Mazda MX-5 ND 1.5's ability to enjoy ALL of the performance without even fracturing the speedlimits 😁 In essence, driving a slow car fast is more fun than driving a fast car slowly.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. The 718 Boxster T loaner I was given whilst my GT4 was last in for a regular service did not leave me with a great impression. It was fast off the line, but lacked a distinctive character otherwise. The torque of the turbo-4 makes it easier to drive around town, or on back roads but it lacks the panache that a naturally aspirated engine provides. Porsche's sports cars are supposed to prioritize engagement, even if it comes at the expense of simplicity. But I digress...The 718's chassis is simply brilliant, regardless of what engine is used. It pleases me that prospective owners have the chance to choose between the 4 and 6 cylinder models.

Hi Stephen, and a big thanks for your comment and contribution to our community. For the record, comparing the GT4 with a non GT car such as the Boxster T or the 4.0 GTS is hard, apples and pears. @@JankoLind indeed I am a subscriber now. The 997 4s is a great car as are all S + Porsche’s. But 15 years of development exist and the automotive industry is (as few others) a very high spec industry, very innovative and very based on I&D. We all notice that as end users, don’t we? The 2.5l is much faster, corners much easily and provide great feedback. Not yet ready to evaluate in deep but the feeling is actually of great happiness. Traded an 911 for a 718 might sound crazy and is but is a great move as this car is phenomenal. Ppl talk about the sound but strangely doesn’t critise the 911 turbo or turbo s sound. The 718 2.5 is really a great car and people should indeed test it before following the herd.

I enjoy your videos, and whilst you have some valid points, I don’t agree with many of the opinions in this video. Drive on a track...for sure the GT4. Poser factor....GT4. Drive on the road and a GTS 4.0 is a better option than a GT4. And it’s £10k cheaper. Not everyone wants a front splitter so low to the ground, a single driving mode or a wing on the back ‘for the road’. You don’t chase lap times on the road, and the GT4 is not quite as easy to live with. I think what I am trying to say is that it depends on the purpose of the car, which is better for the individual buying it. The GTS 4.0 is for those who prefer to fly under the radar, compared to a GT4 or Spyder but who also appreciate the engine.....and the art of driving......on the road 😊 Harry understands what the GTS 4.0 is all about, and just about every other reviewer. I do appreciate you are coming at this from a different perspective though, and it’s always good to see a different viewpoint. Merry Christmas.

@@JankoLind Fair point, but the fact many reviewers suggest it’s 95% or so of a GT4 for less money requires the comparison, in my opinion. Your points at the beginning explained why you were not comparing it with a Spyder, but if driving on the road which is better. Would you recommend a GTS 4.0 or Spyder ? Do we need a larger rear diffuser, big wing, larger brakes and wider rear tyres to push and stop 400hp on the road ? We know the best choice for the track, so I guess the GTS 4.0 must be the better choice for the road ?

@RobGalvin65
@RobGalvin65 3 года назад
I agree too. I'm not sure where Janko is coming from here at all tbh. The monocoque is exactly the same on both Spyder and Boxster, only the suspension components, brakes and aero are different. And 90% of people wont tell the difference, unless really pushing on or on track. The GTS 4.0 is the better road car because of the extra comfort and roof convenience while still offering the stunning performance of the same engine (again electronically detuned by an almost undetectable few HP and 200rpm). I purchased the Spyder because I am a true enthusiast, that's who the model is designed for. However, once I drove the Boxster GTS 4.0 for a couple of days, I sold my Spyder and swapped to the GTS. All the fun, without the harshness and hassle of the roof. Of course, each to their own.

@@RobGalvin65 I would not recommend the 4.0 GTS, the base 718 is much better value for money. I'm sorry but the 4.0 GTS is not something I recommend unless you absolutely need a mid-engine NA flat 6 car. Glad you’re back, it’s been too long. Really like the fact you’re not simply praising the 4.0 like everyone else but instead speak of a bit of a mismatch, which kind of makes sense. Well it is nice to see a contrary opinion - good for discussion. I don't think the highly optioned S or GTS turbo 4's sold very well in and around $100k. They've fixed that and brought more balance to the 718 lineup IMO. There is something for everyone, and the GTS models in Canada are way harder to get (even an allocation) than the GT4's which are plentiful on dealer lots (for now). So ya, price matters and Janko didn't really touch on that. Option out a Cayman S with the GTS level of trim and performance, and you'll see quickly why the GTS has become instantly popular. I don't understand the chassis comments. I have not heard that opinion on any other review (and there are many). Reviews where people compare the GT models to the GTS, without big gaps of time between driving each model. See Harry's Garage, Carfection, Auto Express, Piston Heads, Roger Bailey etc...... Also the Cayman S isn't really much slower than the 4.0, and is punchier low down so I don't really understand the comments that it is a mismatch. It isn't a GT car, but that holds appeal to many.
@JankoLind
@JankoLind 3 года назад
Thank you Dude, yes my opinion is not the populistic/selling/politically correct one you will find in above mention car reviewer. GTS models are increasing in popularity in Europe as you experience in Canada, it is as you write a value-added option pack. I did not talk about buying the car because it would not suit my review. It is not a perfect marriage as I made clear. I think the 2.5-liter engine suits the Boxster much better and a price discussion would just make the 4.0 even less attractive for me. A high revving engine is more to control for the chassis. You feel that when you drive the 4.0, with the 2.5-liter engine you give the chassis time to aline. As I've always said, there is a Porsche for everybody and I try to present my thought based on my pros and cons, this religion does not suit everybody. Finally, I would like to thank you for contributing to our community, we do not have to share the same opinion but I believe we would have an interesting conversation and learn from each other.

Great review comparing the previous 2.5L Turbo to this new 4.0L NA 718 GTS. However, one important topic not discussed (by this or most other comparison videos) is the noticable presence of turbo lag with a 2.5L car. After having driven both versions of GTS cars, I noticed that the 2.5L definitely has turbo lag which can only be avoided if kept in Sport+ mode. The issue is probably related to only having a single turbo (whereas the 991.2 and 992 use twin turbos but which are still not identical to a true 991 or 992 Turbo with its twin VTG turbochargers). As a result of my two GTS test drives, I decided on the 2023 718 GTS 4.0 (to avoid the turbo lag issue) and am thoroughly happy with this decision!
@JankoLind
@JankoLind 11 месяцев назад

@@JankoLind Thanks for your comments. Sounds like we are essentially in agreement regarding the 2.5L version exhibiting some turbo lag (not zero but "close to non"). Curious as to what you meant by PDK lag? After having owned several Porsches, manuals and PDKs, the later shifts in 0.05 seconds (50 milliseconds) which is quite a bit faster than a human can manage. Maybe you are referring to response time from varying throttle input (instead of using paddles) to the PDK executing a shift?

Thanks for the reference to your "992 PDK versus Manual " video. I pulled up and viewed the video which does discuss this idea of "PDK lag". However, we can probably agree this is actually more a mental perception than physical characteristic of Porsche cars. On the one hand, I would agree that a manual gearbox offers very direct driver engagement. Although, I have found my PDK equiped Porsches also offer similar control of the gearbox by simply selecting manual mode and then shifting up/down as desired. The only real difference between gearboxes is whether a foot pedal or ECU interacts with a clutch plate. Typically, as you mention, a PDK provides quicker acceleration and higher torque (both of which are useful in track day situations). Anyway, always fun to compare notes and experiences related to these awesome machines!

Thanks Janko for another entertaining video. However, I differ from you on a number of points. I have spent a lot of seat time in the 4 cyl 718's. Very quick, but I never cared for the sound (like a lawnmower) or the on/off nature of the turbo. I mooned after the Spyder, but could never have one for a daily driver for the reasons mentioned in the video. When the 4.0 liter version of the Boxster GTS was announced, I grabbed the first allocation at my dealer. I have had the car for 2 weeks now, and have loved every second of it. The engine gives up some torque down low, but makes up for it with the absence of turbo lag, the way the throttle can be so easily finessed, the tuneful exotic sound, and the screaming high RPM performance. As far as handling, it has a completely addictive dialed in go kart feeling, exactly what I was looking for and in no way less rewarding in the corners than the 4 cyl in my opinion. This is not to deny the appeal of the 4 cylinder cars, which are fantastic in their own right and offer a different set of virtues.

Hi janko, thank you for your insightful review. It seems that major car mags did the comparison Spyder vs GTS 4.0 a little superficially. They told - Yep the engine and power delivery is pretty much the same but not so the chassis. Also this particular car with Alcantare/leather interior and carbon trim, pricewise is very close to the Spyder. If i was looking for better day by day convenience, i'd look no further than a regular 718 or 718 T. On the other hand i agree with you for the appreciation of the turbo 4, 2.0 or 2.5. where the majority of media bashed this engine a lot since its launch in 2016. Before the Spyder i owned a nicely specced 718 2.0 and even in comparison with the former it was really very good value for money. In my opinion the Phyton Green works better on the Cayman. For the Boxter i'd prefer Miami Blue or Lava Orange like special colours. For the calipers absolutely black, especially with green, red is not a great match imho. I regret not having specified black on my white Spyder, i have black rims instead.
@JankoLind
@JankoLind 3 года назад
Sorry for the late answer, your comment was stoped in spam, don't know why? The chassis in the 4.0 GTS is the same as in the 2.5 GTS. GT4 and Spyder have a motorsport chassis wish will cope with a more intense engine such as the NA 4.0. If you buy a GTS 4.0, I do recommend everybody to upgrade the chassis and tires. But then again in your financial calculation, you will be better of with a GT4 Spyder or the 2.5 GTS for a more suited daily driving car. Black calipers make the car look really good but red with white is not bad at all. I try to explain that it's not about if the calipers are painted or not, its all about it needs to match the color of the car. I like red calipers on cars with the body color: White, red, black and sometimes silver.

We already knew Janko's very negative opinion of the GTS 4.0 that he revealed in a video many months ago when Porsche announced the release of this model, and without even having tested the car. And I sincerely think that this negative thought may be influenced by the fact that, undoubtedly, this decision subtracted a bit of exclusivity from the Spyder carrying that fabulous 4.0 naturally aspirated engine (exactly the same one that the GTS 4.0 now carry with the only software difference for subtract 20 cv). And in my humble opinion, this thought has totally conditioned the test of this car, lacking the usual emotion that Janko has us used to in her videos. I think that it is not possible that a flat-6 naturally aspirated engine was a fantastic engine for Boxster for 20 years, between 1996 and 2016, and now it stops being so and we discover that the ideal engine for a Boxster is a flat-4 turbo, when We all know that it was a tough decision for Porsche imposed by European emissions regulations, and not based on their own emotional convictions. I don't buy the argument.
@JankoLind
@JankoLind 3 года назад
BIG thanks for your contribution to our community José. You are right, from an emotional perspective I do not appreciate a flat-6 in a Boxster or a Cayman, for that matter. It creates the "I could not afford a 911 syndrome" instead of being a stand-alone beautiful mid-engined sportscar connecting to the Porsche History as the flat 4 equipped cars dose. I believe I made this clear in my first videos when I reviewed the 718 Cayman years ago. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-geDrlnDXmtk.html You are also right that Porsche was forced to downsize due to European emissions regulations, but from my pair of eyes, it was a jackpot. Never the less I understand that the majority of the market does not agree with my thoughts, and do not appreciate the flat 4 as I dose. This inspired me to go from talking to action when I bout the Porsche 718 Cayman T. ru-vid.com/group/PLlDDzjSsJx0St-GUrGKqqgyvEWIh4o1lF Regardless of what you think/write the 4.0 does not suit the chassis. I've driven to many Porsches and this is all about making money rather than designing the perfect mid-engine sportscar. You could of course upgrade the chassis and wheels. Something that I recommend if you purchased the 4.0 already. IMPORTANT the GTS 4.0 did not subtract the exclusivity from the Spyder, the Boxster GTS 4.0 and the Spyder are two totally different cars, and as I said in the video could not be compared. Please let me remind everybody that I know all about the 4.0 GTS long before I ordered my Spyder. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UrIeWKlO1sQ.html What I do cross my fingers and hope for is a 992 Carrera T with the 4.0 Naturally aspirated engine from the Spyder/GT4 fitted. That ladies and gentlemen could be one of the best Porsche cars ever. Remember that a 992 Carrera S manual has a Kurb weight of 1480 kg, which's 10 kg lighter than a 997 Carrera and with a chassis to handle a more stressful engine. I hope this clarifies the situation, and perhaps, you could understand the argument? I do respect and understand that we have a different opinion on this matter. We don't have to agree and I hope to meet you one day for a coffee and car talk, that would be amazing. As I've said many times, there is a Porsche for everybody. I have tested many 911's. I always thought I would buy one, but I never found one I could connect with, up to and including the Turbo S (I never considered a GT3 because I wanted a convertible). I bought a Boxster because it makes the 911 seem like a boat in comparison. If anyone wants to think it's because I can't afford a 911, then they haven't driven a 718. And who cares anyway? Besides, the Boxster/Cayman was always a flat 6 before the 718, so the 4.0 connects better with the history of this model than the 4 cylinder does. Also, you are the first person who has ever claimed that the 4 cyl handles better than the GTS. This has not been my experience at all. In fact, every other reviewer besides you prefers the 4.0 to the 4 cylinder. Many are calling it the perfect sports car on the market, at any price. And a 992 Carrera T with the 4.0 NA engine will not appeal to me, as I will always go for mid-engine over rear engine.

@@JankoLind so your conclusion is for the non-GT chasis the 2.5 or 2.0 fits better, the 4.0 makes the chassis we can say "nervous" if you downshift, hi-rev on a b-road, but the chassis feels underperforming if you keep the gear on low rpms because low torque curve compared to a turbo? if that is true then you only need to get the 4.0 in a non-GT chassis only if you care about.. the sound? what about if you drive a bit more than only b-roads? i think the real conclusion is get a 4.0 if you drive more on autobahn or open fast roads and/or tracks and or if you care about the sound and specifically in b-roads you are willing to drive with a bit more nervous chassis as a compromise because of the power delivery of the 4.0. In the end the 2.0 and 2.5 engines are more suitable for a non-GT chassis but they can feel a bit underpowered in big open tracks but the compromise is not the nervous chassis but the flat-4 sound like a Porsche 912 but with turbo noises added.

Hi Janko, Refreshing to hear you views and I agree ; for me the 4 cylinder suits the 718 better ( I could sense the extra weight of the 4L over my T!) - we’ve chatted before and you know I’m a 911 fan from owning several 911’s including 911GTS to my 991.1 GT3 but when I wanted a change to convertible the 911 felt so much less agile . And my T has seen some good track time at tighter tracks she keeps up with everything and yes at Silverstone Full GP circuit she was overpowered by friends GT4 and GT3 - but she still went past a lot of other 911’s, and you can use so much more of the cars available ability on the road .

Thank you for making the video, and for your review. Some people don’t like your conclusions, but this just goes to show why you need to see lots of reviews, because reviewers are human and have their own individual preferences. Sometimes it depends when and what conditions you test and drive the car, what sort of roads. Recently one magazine put the BMW M2 competion last in its reviews of Best Drivers Car, another magazine made it their Car of the Year. How come? The first magazine drove it in terrible weather where its Cup tyres were a nightmare. Janko, you don’t really like the GTS4.0 that much, that is fine. I think perhaps the B Roads in Scandinavia are perhaps a lot less rough and bumpy that ours in the North of England, here the slightly softer suspension and better ground clearance can give the GTS (either 2.5 or 4.0) an advantage over the GT4 or Spyder, maybe if you drove the car here you might see the benefit of the GTS4.0? Maybe not, and I’m sure you would still prefer the 2.5, but that car is no longer available as a new car.

Hi Graham, Big thanks for your contribution to our community. I agree, condition matters. I can not compare the UK and Swedish roads true. I understand that my thoughts are not in line with the general public but one thing you need to give me in comparison to other reviewers, I ONLY drive Porsche and I own my own. That wasn’t really a well flowing review imo. You gave me the impression that you were somehow distracted and not focused, whatsoever.... usually you do much better but maybe it’s just me this time. To the car: Spyder as a 3rd car, for Saturday morning blasts and occasional track use, GTS for weekend use and longer road trips.... I have driven the Spyder, own the GTS4.0 and have to say that the Turbo4 didn’t appeal to me due to sound impressions but also throttle response and this “smaller engine capacity feel”, independent of any chassis mismatch opinions (which I btw don’t share). Thanks for having and articulating a fresh opinion and different view, much appreciated. Don’t take so much time again to come up with your next video and recharge over Christmas. If disecting such fine details in respect to 2.5t vs. 4.0 you may not ignore the slight turbo lag of 2.5t in lower rev range where 4.0 is torque light, but more sonorous and lag free. As it is obvious, in my experience 4.0 is better then 2.5t, if ignoring tax and co2.

I may be wrong, but I think that Porsche may have dialled back the front end response of the GTS by keeping the camber quite low. I imagine with more camber (via camber plates), it drives much closer to the Spyder, and you can almost have your cake and eat it. With the amount of torque on offer the smaller tyres on the GTS probably aren't that much of a detriment outside of a track, where ultimate lateral grip might be needed. From what I know of these cars, I'd want the more liveable car, with leather not alcantara, but perhaps sharpen up the front end, which might have been kept a bit weak on the GTS to give the Spyder more kudos. I know the Spyder has the rose joint bits but 1.4 degrees of front camber seems very tame on the GTS, probably on purpose.

The torque curve of the 4.0 requires keeping the revs over 5,000 RPM to get the best out of the engine and with the long gearing in the manual you'll be traveling at some very high speeds. So the problem with the 4.0 is that it will be driven very fast. Who on earth would want a sports car that goes very fast?
@JankoLind

Everybody would like to have a fast sports car. But I don't agree with your comment. There is absolutely no problem with the gearing, you need to drive it differently, please have a look at my GT4 review for more information. @@JankoLind Yes. You do have to drive it differently which means driving miles of B roads in second and third gear. As for your statement that the chassis can't handle going over 5,000 rpm? As I said in the review it is still a Porsche with great drivability. Nevertheless, What happens is that when you give throttle or let go, the chassis does not compensate but instead gives you a more nervous car to handle. please have a look at time index 12:39 where I need to compensate with steering getting out of a corner hardly never happens in any other Porsche models. Perhaps harder engine mounts could be a solution. I would recommend you look into upgrade your chassis (presuming you have a 4.0 GTS). I hope this explains "nervous chassis" for you.

On GT-cars strong color is interesting, with its base from the IROC championships strong colors was applied to distinguish the drivers. The 718 Spyder is an extremely rare item, not many cars have left the Motor Sports department without a roof. looking at Porsches open classic sports cars, they were much more restraint in color selection. At the end of the day, you need to feel for YOUR car and the question you need to ask your self wish path is more important for YOU. Select the color you like and not what others think.
