With Porsche's all-new, fully-electric sportscar set to replace the Boxster & Cayman in 2024, this is the goldilocks Porsche of the moment, pairing the 4.0 PDK's near-supercar performance with the daily driver usability that's defined the range from the start.

Nick here, I can definitely say Joe is a true enthusiast and drives the hell out of his cars! Maybe not his 69(?) Rolls as it weighs 2 million pounds but he would if he could haha

The Boxster 718 with its mid-engine are much better, much more enjoyable to drive than the 911. More and more people are realizing this. What a beautiful car! No matter the price, even if I could afford it, I would buy a 718 instead of a 911.

After purchasing a Boxster S some years ago I still remember the first time I drove it into my driveway. My neighbor was out and before any greeting or discussion he simply blurted out, "Why didn't you get a 911?" LOL.

Nice review. I agree that the car should be seen by itself and the way the car drives and handles and not always compare it with the 911. They are different cars aside from the badge...I drove a few 911's and still like the Boxsters better. 911 is definitely a nice car, but the Boxster feels lighter and more fun. It also sounds better (at least the 6 cyl engines - don't care for the sound of the 4-cyls). I had a 981 Boxster (looked like a GTS, with more or less the same options, but it was a 2.7). Just bought a Boxster 25 back in november. I love driving it, and it sounds very good (to be honest - not as good as the 981 though... Damn environmentalists :)
@TheCarCrush
@TheCarCrush 2 года назад
I agree with you on the sound of the 981 being better, my Spyder had more cracks and pops for sure but my neighbors like this one better lol. Congrats on your Boxster 25, that hadn't been anounced yet when I ordered mine, would've definitely considered it. Thanks for watching!

I ordered this car in manual (coming April '23) for pure fun but test drove it in PDK as no MT available, amazing. Perfect for my needs and offers enough to be my primary car for majority of the time. I had a 911 (991.2) for a few years and loved it but this just felt more nimble and connected and gets you smiling even on simple canyon roads. I saw a quote from someone on YT saying 'that the playground for the 718 GTS 4.0 is much larger than the 911'. I agree.

Hi, Joe here, there are times when I miss the sense of occasion with having a manual (same for manual roof of my Spyder) but the PDK box is amazing and with the acc cruise control and hold function, takes the grind out of traffic (almost). We just posted a new review of the 992 4S with PDK and it was perfectly suited to that car. Thanks for watching!

@@TheCarCrush You're welcome. I had the PDK on my 991.2 S that I had for a few years and loved it. But manuals are becoming extinct and this is the perfect car to air one out with and go off into the sunset with.

Beautiful car, congratulations. I think that anyone who does not consider this Boxster 4.0 gts to be a real Porsche, has not driven one. We just ordered this car having previously owned a 911 992 4s. The 911 992 is just too big for us, despite its stunning looks. The Boxster handles like a pro and the sound of the NA engine is fantastic.

People who don't consider a Boxster or Cayman a ''real Porsche'' should read this post. I live in L.A. and I read the same thing when I got the entry level BMW 318i, but once I got the Bimmer, I heard nothing but, "nice car." Same with my Harley Sportster, articles & videos said that Harley riders looked at the Sporster as a "girls bike," but again, all I get are compliments. I am looking at the Cayman GTS because I do not like the current Carrera's, they are starting to look like Panamera's.

Great vid. The engine sound really comes out in the vid. The gts 4.0 is 75 percent of the gt3 (so said by savageese and I concur!!) it’s engine is incredible and no less than epic it’s a connoisseurs car for enthusiasts. others can do with the 4cyl turbo and pay much less. for me the na 4.0 is much more pleasing than any 911 engine sound wise besides of course the 911 gt models. Enjoy!! Fair disclosure my new gts 4.0 is to be delivered soon. 😀

Definitely for car enthusiast and the occasional hair dressers 😝. I think the GTS is a sleeper for those that don’t want the attention and just want the thrill of the drive. This is my gateway into the brand and will be getting my Cayman GTS 4.0 Agate grey delivered in July. But of course I want to eventually get into a 911 one day.

It never occurs to me that I'm a lesser Porsche owner because I "only" drive a 718. In fact, I argue that my car is more nimble than their porky 911 and I've got $50k left over to spend on anything else I want. Maybe my thoughts on this are different cuz I'm a girl, tho.

hi, your GTS has the OPF exhaust filter ? Rgs
@TheCarCrush
@TheCarCrush 2 года назад
Hi and thanks for watching. TBH I'm not certain as for markets outside the US, there's both the particulate filter issue (which makes cars so equipped quieter); and more stringent noise regulations which require quieter exhaust. It's a US market car and my understanding is that while all cars globally share the same exhaust architecture (which accommodates the particulate filter), the filter itself is only installed for certain markets. I'll reach out to PCNA and see if I can get an answer and meanwhile you may know more than me?

@@cayman9815 Hi there, sorry this took a beat but here's the answer from Porsche PR: "On the 4.0 liter engine in the 718, both the EU version and the U.S. version are equipped with the same filter substrate to fulfill noise regulations. However, the EU version’s substrate is plugged in certain areas to create the filter effect, while the exhaust gases of the U.S. version can pass through it without being restricted (unfiltered). Additionally, the EU version’s substrate is coated with precious metals, which the U.S. version’s is not. Omitting it entirely would have meant developing an entirely different main muffler. All that being said, there is a chance that the U.S. version of the car may sound a little different, but I would not want to claim that it is noticeably louder."

Hi, Joe here, I'm 6'2, and there's plenty of legroom in the 718 and also the 981 which I had before. My first from this series was a Gen 2 987 Cayman and, it seemed a bit more cramped overall, likely as its wheelbase is slightly shorter (2416mm/95.2 inches vs. 2475mm/97.4 inches).

The 0.5 second 0-60 mph improvement of the PDK over the manual gets overemphasized, as 0.4 second is due to launch control.
@TheCarCrush
@TheCarCrush 2 года назад
Quicker is quicker! PDKs are always quicker than their manual counterparts and in this case, the PDK gets more torque so the gap is greater between the two.
@69FOSTER
@69FOSTER Год назад
@@TheCarCrush Does having the PDK instead of a manual detract at all from the fun of the car?
@TheCarCrush
@TheCarCrush Год назад
@@69FOSTER You do lose the tactile sensation of shifting, and metering the clutch and the revs just right, so there's a tradeoff for sure. But the PDK shifts lightning-quick and precisely, with almost no interruption of power and the acceleration is pretty incredible. For us PDK made the most sense as I share the GTS with my other half who prefers it that way, and the added torque/acceleration with the PDK 4.0 made the tradeoff easier for me to swallow.
@netcrashYT
@netcrashYT Год назад
So you would say 5-60 would be about the same minus the shift time? Isn’t that where the real loss is too?
@economist1170
@economist1170 Год назад
Yes, I think 5-60 mph would be almost identical for the manual and PDK. The torque to weight ratio is almost identical, as the PDK gains 8 ft-lbs of peak torque but 68 lbs of weight. The brief interruption of power delivery when shifting from first to second in the manual might cost a skilled driver 0.1 seconds.

Blind elitism like the thoughts from the previous GT4 owner are why so many people waste money and rob themselves from otherwise great experiences. You don't always need to chase the top badge! GTS Cars are so great in general because they are more enjoyable, more of the time.
