I see these comments ...and im just like ... i think some of you are missing the point. This is the og release on pc. Its meant for preservation purposes. DRM free. It has the full uncensored fmvs we never got in the u.s. so thats a big plus right there. Its not supposed to be updated with u.i , upscaled textures, nor have any modern graphical features. This is supposed to be a official original re-release with added content from other versions, in there original form as they were , with just some updated wires under the hood to make it all run flawlessly with modern controllers and hardware. It achieves all that. In fact; its kinda the best version of the game as it stands imo. You add the rebirth mod to this? Lol then that fact is in stone. It wont come out on steam ...why? Again one of its main task was preservation. Not locked behind some service requiring a internet connection. This thing ; will work completely on its own, no internet required or gog after purchase. You actually own it. This is a fantastic re-release imo.
It's all right. I do think they could have done A LITTLE bit of updating. Like, just basic options. Graphics are fine and gameplay. Or at least added the arrange modes and what not on RE2 etc... Make it at least the most definitive version of the OG game. I don't think anyone cares if it's the OG PC version or not.
I feel the "lazy" port is okay, since we have the Rebirth mods which are fully compatible and the Biorand randomizers also work with them. All this release does for people already playing the classics, is making it fully legal to use, since you couldn't buy the PC versions anymore.
agree the resolution and mainly all the option you tweak in the file doesnt mainly or nothing in most cases... good for gog to rerelease those but... yeah when you go for 1080p but the aliasing looks like you play in 320*240... (and i'm talking about the characters since the backgrounds are fixed images)... even getting an option to filter the background images would have been great even filters... it's just a lazy port.
There are video/resolution options in the DX wrapper portion under the GoG options, before you launch the game. GoG has actually gone above and beyond with this, to maintain a "pure" version of the game while adding modern controller support. However, the PC port hasn't aged well at all. The cinematics are pixellated and run at the original PS 12FPS and the backgrounds look worse than the OG PS version due to modern, higher resolution monitors/compression. I'm glad these games exist if only for the sake of preservation.
all a few people have done is whine about the gog release....not realizing you can put mods on it. its an old game dude. i get the fmv is at 10fps but the game is running smooth as butter. i have had zero issue cept for the 10 fps fmv cutscenes. the game is getting updated as well fixing any bugs too. i think people got spoiled with a certain mod (rebirth) which you can actually install to this version.... im just happy the game works and is actually a decent port. the whole point of this was not only make this available to be purchased legally but to preserve it. if it aint good to you thats you man but good lord im getting tired of this already and its been out for what 3 days.
I guess the whole idea of these versions is to, well, have the original game versions running on modern PCs. Which I find cool enough. If I want updated/enhanced versions of those games, I play the HD versions on the Switch or Xbox or I play the new remakes on my Series X.
thinking to get this for my steam deck - thanks for this video man - just got the gog email and wanted to know if i should pick it up or not :) not a fan of the remakes
Yeah at the price it's at and the fact you don't have to do anything to it for it to run it's well worth owning, mods work on it too apparently if you change the language to Japanese in the files, I haven't tested this myself yet though. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Just a quick note, any one wanting to use mods with an amd gpu it’s terrible there ghosting all over. There is a work around but it’s not working on most systems.
I jus frel this port is fine, cuz its the 95 PC port 1:1. I dont care that the release doesnt have these QOL improvements, since i see this as a win more on the preservation side of things. Honestly i hope these games dont come to steam cuz of DRM
Dude, I just saw the first minute of the video and I already have to write here. You know that Resident Evil: Director's Cut is available on Playstation consoles... right? And guess what, it doesn't have trophies. It uses an emulator but there are emulator-based games that have trophies on PS4/5 so it's just that they didn't want to bother. Also, GOG has achievement support. Again, they chose not to add them to the game.
Why though? The gog release is completely DRM free no need for launcher or anything. It is also compatible with all the mods the community built, like the Rebirth mod for graphics/fixes etc. as well the randomizers.
@@dshearwf true, DRM-free came with so many benefits. But some people like their games being in the same place and officially integrated (unlike adding non-Steam games), let alone Steam achievements. Don’t get me wrong, I also have some games in GOG. So at least to me, the best way is giving people more options. I always appreciate GOG and Capcom for finally giving people easy access to original REs. Hope GOG do Silent Hill next
@MatthewPorter-r9l Not exactly... I have Sourcenext (Japanese PC port) and I can easily enjoy with HD graphics by downloading & installing Classic Rebirth DLL file.
