IMPORTANT UPDATE: Through our discussions with Moza, it has become apparent that they are still developing the product and it is not yet ready for market. Obviously, when we conduct a "review", there can't be any ambiguity regarding any differences between what we review and what customers receive, at least at the same point in the product lifecycle. We have updated our review policies to assure similar issues don't occur in the future. Any company submitting anything for review must now state in writing the nature of the goods. If pre-production, the video will be a "first look", not a "review". Just like what we have done with the original CSL DD video, and more recently the Asetek Invicta pedal video. Subsequently, we have arranged for all the equipment Moza submitted (including the pedals which we are yet to review) to be returned and we will revisit once we can be assured what we are showing is what you will receive.

Will have you done a review of the v2 of this wheel? I’m in the market for a new wheel and it was between the clubsport DD pro as I’ve always been impressed with my current csl dd, but then also the Asetek forte. Have only just looked at this wheel and the v2 seems to be a big improvement but interested to hear your thoughts?

Great review again Will & Tom. Confirmed all my preconceived issues. As to your question re: Simagic dual clutch paddles, yes you can configure the them as dual stage clutch with a configurable bite point in Alpha Manager.

Great review gents! I do mobile sim racing events with my game trailer and use Thrustmaster bases while using iracing. I'm currently looking at the podium dd1's for upgrades, but this unit is really grabbing my attention! Surprisingly, it's the base-mounted display that won me over. You don't know how many times, people ask me what gear they're in. And we had over 500 people play in two days! LOL!!

Quality review again Will and Tom! When a new brand appears on the scene I’m always hopeful that they can land strongly since competition is good for the industry, but do feel you’ve brought up a lot of small issues that together hurt the overall product, plus the issues that came up on that pre-production model specifically (rust on the motor shaft looked particularly bad) So for the money I think the conclusion is fair, and that the standards in the current space mean that the bar is high if you want to hit the ground running and steal some of that market share off the established players!

The rust was a shocker! Whoever let that leave the factory for review needs to lose their job. I don't believe them already, seem full of it after getting busted with sub-standard gear and QC. "Oh it was pre-production" after the fact, tooooo late Moza.

Lets hope Moza will learn from it, just like Simagic did. The review on the Simagic M10 was kinda similar, with screws falling out of the base and the wheel going crazy.

I just purchased the R9 with the GS wheel The FFB feels great for a 9nm base and the GS wheel has a good feel. i found the Pit House software so easy to use

Incredible review guys. The overall Moza product design is the best I've seen, really off the charts - stunning. Even their Website is incredibly well done. But that wheel bending really shocked me. Regardless it feels like this will be a company we should all follow closely as they improve their products. Thanks again guys!

@@battlegrounds132 I am a very happy Simagic Alpha Mini owner, have had it (along with their GT4 wheel rim) since August and haven't experienced a single issue. I thoroughly enjoy Simagics eco system, pre ordered their P2000 pedals too (at this moment in time they have pedals, wheel base, wheel rims, and a sequential Shifter but an H Shifter and handbrake are rumoured to be In the pipeline over the next year or two) . I've never tried a simucube but I do know that those are a bit more expensive, BUT the one area where simucube beats Simagic thoroughly is the software because simucube has profiles in the cloud for you to download if you need help with a set up. The real downside to Simucube is their wireless connection to wheels (which are all third party too and *expensive*). Simucube is known to have sizeable connection issues, which you don't find in the Simagic ecosystem. It all has to do with where the Wireless receiver is. Tbh Simucube, VRS and Simagic are all companies that you just can't go wrong with! But Simagic just has the best value in terms of price per Neuton-meter of power output. You should join the Simagic discord server if ya wanted to get more info, we're all a very good and supportive group of guys.

I just checked prices for simagic alpha and it seems that with gt1 wheel bundle it will cost me approximately 1000 dollars less than simucube (with cubecontrols or Asher rims) which is a sizeable amount of money. I didn't come around wireless connection problem with simucube on forums but I will keep that in mind! I will for sure checkout discord group if you send me a link before I pull the trigger on my rig! Again, thank you very much! :)

Great review. I notice that it's almost half price if you buy it in China, ~1100 $AUD for base . I will enjoy it when I back to China with sweet price, lol. Could you test out the price if you buy it in china and deliver to AUS? Will be much cheaper?

Excellent to finally have relative perspective compared to other dd bases. As expected, the motor is fine but the devil is in the details (i.e. software/driver implementation). If Moza had priced this aggressively to undercut Simucube and Fanatec, this would make more sense.

This. A motor is a motor, they're all likely to perform within spec, so that aspect was always likely going to be fine. The biggest issue is they stole all the good bits of other chinese based stuff and made them worse, potentially worse than issues that exist with Fanatec and yet decided to price it the same as Fanatec. Couple the software issues that are prevalent and there is literally zero reason to buy this. They need to sort out their QC issues and maybe get an actual software developer on board asap. Honestly it wouldnt surprise me if they didnt take the exact same motor and other parts from Simagics manufacturer and then just slap a different housing on it and forget to actually get a software developer and QC folk who actually sim race

It looks nice but with so many small issues and faults this is not something I'd be willing to spend such a large amount of money on, even if these are all fixed for the release of the wheel it does not instill much trust in the brand. Maybe it will turn out great but first impressions are important.

Agreed. It’s a decent first outing but the fact they sent us pre-production to reviewers without telling us says a lot. They obviously underestimated the sim racing community. Most of the other reviewers have highlighted issues related to pre-production hardware too.

Nice first try, but for that pricing, yeah......nah. New to the market, the only clear differentiator they can offer is price. Need to drop their prices until they get a reputation for quality and reliability, and after sales service. Otherwise, why take the risk with them? Also those side pods are a ridiculous bit of design, get rid of them. Also that cable management and wire pinching is a fire waiting to happen.

Simagic has dual clutch feature with bite point adjustment right from the start... for years now 🙂 Its default on most GT4 and you can add it to GT1 wheels.

Coming from a TM 300 RS, which Moza base would you recommend? R9 or R16? Other than power, is there much difference in the detail? I could get an R9 and two wheels or a R16 and one wheel for my budget. Which will be best for longevity and immersion? Btw, I do race from a desk as well.

Anyone curious/raising an eyebrow seeing the STM32 processor on these wheels. You don't need to worry, its just a processor, and a very very good one at that. What differenciates these products with the same processor are the other components used to make the most of the processors power as well as the drive mechanism etc. The STM32 is a very popular processor in the electronics industry and the hobby space. I would rather be worried if a wheel didn't have this processor in it.

You don’t notice the blue light while driving. Not big issue. I enjoy his feedback back all the time but they can be a lil picky. Moza is a great new sim racing setup.

I hear that this struggles with Raceroom Experience and it not allow key bindings from the wheel. Did you try RRE and experience this ?

Great review guys! Will, you rly need to dial in your drift settings, u're saying u're not good at it but the wheel was definitely holding you back there. That thing seemed too slow to self align. Here's a couple of tips if u dont mind. Never use damping or natural damping. It is a speed sensitive damper and it kills your wheelspeed, obviously not good for drifting. Use friction instead if you need to, but for AC particularly i found that you need to find the right amount of inertia to match your force feedback strength to have a smooth wheel rotation. And dont limit your wheel speed, i dont understand why that setting exists it really doesnt give you any benefit in any scenario in my opinion.

Great review Will and Tom! I am very glad I went with Simagic(Alpha Mini), no half arsed products with them! Edit: what in the HECK is up with the flex on that wheel rim, my goodness!! Even my cheap Motamec wheel is completely solid, hot diggity darn! Also Will, do you have any plans for reviewing the Simagic P2000 pedals? I pre ordered mine last week :D

Something to note that I feel quite strange, is that when I look at the list price in Hong Kong, it is around two thirds of what you have said, or Dave Cameron has said, or even my teammates in UK. Im not too sure whether that includes the shipping or not.

I hope they fix the FFB on Assetto Corsa and Dirt Rally 2.0.. AC being the most popular racing title out there and we dont want to be stuck on just racing on ACC for this base alone. But overall I am excited to for my R16 to arrive

It’s a decent first attempt in my opinion. Remember it took Fanatec a long time to get the DD1/2 experience to what it is today.

@@boostedmedia yeah I don’t have the hands on like you do but I think new companies should try and charge a bit less because of the fanatec and simucube brand they are so big, big RU-vidrs only seem to use then and with fanatec CSL dd at only £500 with the boost kit it’s a steel for a dd wheel base they really could do with pricing smack bang in the middle. Someone like me that does sim racing for fun and have a house and 5 people to feed and wanted a dd wheel for year could not really justify paying around £1000 for a toy but get it to £600-700 I could do that no dd wheel catered for the middle man until the CSL dd I would just like to see more at that price range. But for there first attempt I think it looks good hopefully they will make some lower priced units in the future

Nah I’m just really strong. 😂 🤔 Seriously though it’s definitely the worst we’ve tested in that regard. But it’s not something we noticed when driving. Shouldn’t be pulling on the wheel anyway. But for the price we thought it needed to be pointed out.

Are you going to get shocked if you use aftermarket wheel with QR and no moza button box? since the contacts giving 12v is open

Would depend on the wheel side QR being used. Could easily put some insulation tape over the contacts or just disconnect the PCB.

They’ve told us the rust won’t be a problem in final production. I doubt flex will change. But we’ll see. No idea why they sent us preproduction without disclosing it. They must have known we’d leave no stone unturned.

@@boostedmedia A really dumb move on their behalf. Took a shotgun to their own feet. It wasn't pre-production at all....until you pointed out the QC issues. My guess is they were in close competition from another Chinese manufacturer who also steals Simagics IP, and wanted it out for review and to market before the others. You could them with their pants down.

So many reliability issues from all the reviewers, plus the fact it's an unknown company really puts me off. It's not even cheap either. Many negatives, few positives, unless people get it for a bargain price people should probably stay well away.

I don´t see too many advantages to go for this instead other options. Just the QR which I love it and the wireless connection but that is something that you have with Simagic and without to deal with such an ugly design. What I don´t understand is why you compared it to the DD1 being on the price and torque range of the Simucube 2 Sport.

Neither do we. We would absolutely go a Simagic Alpha, VRS or DD1 over this at the same price. All are more refined products. Although we did really like Moza’s clean and simple software. Simagic would benefit from a similar interface.

They skirted around the issue when we questioned it. Claimed they’ve been using the same pin system used on the wheel for their camera gymbals for years (which is true) but never answered regarding the shifters being the same as Simagic. I asked a bunch of questions and they were always very good at responding, but that was the one question I never got a solid answer to. We can only conclude both brands must be buying parts from the same 3rd party. There’s another Chinese brand who just contacted us to do a review who have another almost identical looking system.

@@boostedmedia just had a weird break on my alpha mini where the wheelshaft pressed into the base making odd friciton and jolting. Getting fixed now but its incredible coming from G29

Not even close to one of the best I’ve tried. The differences are subtle and somewhat subjective though.

BIt of a gamble buying MOza products, looks like they are cutting corners in production and build quality may mean not built to last - be interesting to hear from people after a few years of use..
