I have a companion bible and it is one of the greatest books I have, would not trade it for any other book next to the King James bible. Great study tool, I do not see how anyone could really have in depth study without it.
I have used the Companion for 40 yrs. There is a book a biography on EWB that is fun and interesting about this remarkable scholar. He did his work all on his own with the help of his niece, prob on an old typewriter or by hand, IMO the book on Figures of Speech is his second great work.
IMOP, The most comprehensive and informative Bible that one could have. Pair this Bible with a Strongs, or a Youngs concordance, and you are set to understanding the Word of God!
I should really make a bigger effort to purchase EW Bullingers "Companion bible" other than reading it online. But anyway EW Bullinger was a mighty teacher of the word of God and one of the few I would call a true bible scholar. Yes some of his teachings were way out like universal salvation but he refuted that later in his life but it seems his critics wont forgive him!
While I reject both Dispensationalism and Covenantalism as a false dichotomy with both being errors that do damage to the gospel of Christ and the plan of salvation, I use study bibles from both theological perspectives, and I greatly appreciate the work done by Bullinger to show the structure and parallelism in the text, as well as the many lists provided-in this, he was a scholar par excellence and a great help. This is one of the several bibles that I have open generally when studying, but especially whenever I'm doing an in-depth analysis of the text or deep diving into typology. Great review!
Thank you for doing this review; however, would it be possible to do closeups of the Bible itself, as well as the content. It doesn’t do much good to view it from so far away. 😊
Peter and Paul never taught the same gospel. When Peter taught the kingdom gospel at Pentecost, Saul was rejecting the Messiah. When Paul preached the gospel of the grace of God, Peter’s gospel of the kingdom to Israel was limited to the circumcision
Paul and John the Baptist taught two distinct gospels, both given by God: the gospel of the kingdom and the gospel of the grace of God. Paul’s good news included Christ’s blood payment for our sins and righteousness without the law.
Certainly not true concerning Paul and Peter. I’ve done multiple videos showing conclusively they did teach the identical Gospel, and explain Galatians and Acts in that truth.
I love Bullinger, but would encourage people to take the next step and look at the concordant publishing concern website. Great translation of scriptures. The writings by A.E. Knoch are very good, and was a friend of Bullinger. Anyone who likes Bullinger is getting close.
Amazing study Bible! Some so-called study Bibles like Macarthur's and David Jeremiah's are polluted with their presuppositions and unscriptural beliefs based on tradition and eisegesis. Highly recommend the large print edition.
L.D. ~ yes i remember jmac making that statement and my jaw dropped Immediately! I did Not accept it, not for a minute. I tried to understand his reasoning but couldn't (not being a scholar myself) so it is my opinion that he was incorrect [on this point]! Thing about it is .... I don’t intend to be here ! His statement doesnt make him a false teacher or false prophet.... Just wrong on this point. This isn't the only point of disagreement i’ve encountered with the man. I still respect his work though. ✌️
Provide documentation why Bullinger is wrong about the start of the Mystery Body, don't just categorically dismiss a great Biblical intellectual. I think he has been unjustly slammed and maligned by lesser men such as Ironside: pygmies of scriptural exegesis.
Dispensational bible teachers which I respected prejudiced me many years ago from considering what they wrongly call 'hyperdispensationalism'. In my careful investigation, Bullinger was right and they are wrong.
My study shows differently. But I have several friends who are so called "hyperdispensationalists". I may try to show my understanding on a video sometime. God bless you!
I liked the comment about the constellations and numbers in the Bible. Seems many get confused in thinking you're talking about numerology and astrology. I'm not a fan of ones trying to predict things by applying math. Also, God points out a lot of things as to the happenings in the heavens, to include his first and second coming, they are referenced often in prophecy, to include when Peter quotes Joel. Many do get carried away and have suffered ridicule for it. There are so many books about the harbingers and so many videos about the supposed Bethlehem star and Venus, its ridiculous.
I got mine on Amazon but a Google search has other places. I recommend the hard cover large print any other requires good eyes and a magnifier. God bless!
Hello. I would like to know what parts you do not endorse please? I have this Bible to study with Shepherds Chapel. I am vulnerable and will believe anything biblical. ty.
Well just a few things I would say are unscriptural in Bullingers teachings are: 1). Annihilation of the wicked dead. Scripture teaches eternal conscious punishment 2). Bullinger would say that Acts 2 is not the founding of the Church. 3) He taught the gap theory I hope this helps! Eat the food and spit out the sticks as they say. God bless!
smokymountaingirl Betsy I have studied from the Companion Bible for twenty years. No study bible gives you this verse by verse study. It is 'not' a commentary bible.
DEUTERONOMY 17 17 17 He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold. MARK 10 9 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” ROMANS 7 1 -5 1 Know ye not, brethren,* (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as* he liveth? 2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. 3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. Wherefore,my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. ROMANS 7 1 - 5 ACTS OF THE APOSTLES 2 :38 - 39!! Then Peter said unto them,Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off*, even as many as the Lord our God shall call*.
Throughout the book of Acts you will see that the gospel was to the jew first. Not so afterward. Bullinger was exactly right about the Dispensation of the Grace of God. please read 1 Cor 9:17. please read the book of Ephesians. please read Colossians.. Please read your Bible...and pray for understanding.. ...and please don't think you are smarter than Ethelbert Bullinger!
The notes in the Companion Bible is great internal evidence of the inspiration of scripture. Yes, Bullinger taught some false doctrines, many serious, but he also taught some truth that many Christians don't understand, a primary example is regarding the state of the dead and the nature of heaven and hell. I do believe he was converted.
Brother, please learn to rightly divide. Apostle Peter preached to the Jews re: the earthly Kingdom, and later God revealed to Apostle Paul the Oneness of "neither Jew nor Gentile" in the Body of Christ who will receive the promises of the heavenlies (Eph 1-3), due to Israel denying Christ, third strike stoning Stephen. Those "but now" who now believe Jesus as God did 1 Cor. 15:1-4 for them personally, immediately receive the Holy Spirit till the day of redemption (Eph 4:30). The promises to Israel will again be fulfilled (Books of Hebrews thru Revelation), after we are Raptured.
No we didn’t blow it big time that’s fact. At That period of time the gospel had to go to the Jews and Gentiles. And reading through Acts 28. The Jews gathered but departed as Paul made plane a Prophecy that they would not believe the heart of this people are waxed 25.27. And 28 and Jews departed. Enter Ephesians 3:3.1 then all become one 2: 13.25.
