I have the 4 door si, the car is 2,900 lbs. it’s not a heavy car. The steering dynamics clutch and shifts are amazing. It’s an economy car, comparing it to a type R is not doing this car justice. The type R is a completely different animal. The power is dam fast stock. It doesn’t need to be tuned, let the car break in the exhaust noise is really nice and the limited slip differential is great for messing around at low speed. That’s what this car is about. It’s an economy car with some sport dynamics. Not a track car.
Joshua Ramirez You can track any car, doesn’t mean you should. There’s a video on RU-vid of a guy who took his Camry V6 to the track and actually did a decent job for what it was.
Salvatore Anzalone bro, for a daily driving it is really good, I do flash pro only and shifter kit as of now don’t know my nextmove but over all for me it is great.
a turbo is what the SI always needed.. 200 hp isn't enough but when a tuned NA motor vs this turbo motor, the gains are a night and day difference. Honda did the power train right at least...
Tractor trailers have had turbos on them for 40 years. They run hundred of thousands of miles without repair. It’s a housing with an impeller in it with way less parts than an auto transmission. I have a old Passat with 250 k and turbo has been boosted up for 175 k of those miles. False truths as always in these comments.
Great review Matt!! I currently own a 2017 Civic Si Sedan! I like it a lot!! I have owned an 09’ , 12’ , 14’ Civic Si’s all sedans and they each had their own character!!! I liked each one in different ways!! I do feel like the 17 had been my favorite Si so far!! It feels quite a bit more refined than my previous ones!! I do miss the higher revving motors though! I am now saving up for a Type R!! Keep up the great work Matt you have been one of my favorite channels for a long time!! God bless ya my friend!!
Whenever I have the fleeting thought that I'd like to get back into an Si, I just have to look at one and I'm once again glad I have a GTI. Solid power for this car, though.
I got a corvette, my new SI is more fun in the corners, makes the swooshie sound, gets 40mpg+ highway, slap on Hondata on there and keep up with my uncles Type R... not a bad way to spend $25k
I really like the side profile of this Honda Civic Si Coupé😄, and the front end with blacked out grille also the seats are quite nice as well!, and so much more, I will say that the 1.5liter Turbo engine isn’t as desirable as the older N/A engines with the V-TEC but hey things changes and I’m okay with the new engine, also Iets thank Honda for keeping it 6 speed manual only😆.
Civic_lexuskindaguy 101 u know Vtech is just a version of VVT (variable valve timing) which 90% of new cars have now a days which means it’s nothing special? In fact the 1.5 has variable valve timing
Elliot Silvia it’s literally just variable valve timing it’s nothing special, there’s multiple different versions and names for it, basically all new cars have it.
Elliot Silvia it’s pointless for auto manufacturers to claim cars have VVT showing it off, it’s like putting EFI on the side of cars now all cars have had it now for the past 20+ years lol. I was just stating to the guy on the original comments how wrong he was by saying it’s doesn’t have “VTEC” when in fact it has Variable Valve Timing which is the same just doesn’t have some fancy name, these new engines are far superior to the old Honda engines
Matt- Just a guess but those steering wheel controls could be biased left due to an engineer with crazy attention to detail - you're often busy rowing gears with your right (which is is why cruise controls are on right). Smart!
I drive a Civic now and have always wanted an Si, and I completely agree with you. This one just doesn’t do it for me. I noticed the same weight distribution related issues you did, and I’m mainly disappointed in the rev hang. I wish the Type R wasn’t being marked up so badly by dealers because at MSRP it is an affordable option. I may have to go with a Veloster N on this one.
Dawson Johannes bro call different dealers, my local dealer had it marked up 10k and I called another Honda dealer 30 min away and it only had 1k mark up which is way more affordable
Gustavo Marin it varies by location but in my experience and reading forums online, it’s tough to get dealers to crack and sell it for near msrp. I’m in NorCal and pretty much all of em are at $8k-$13k. The ones that do manage to sell at a better price are gone almost instantly while dealers in the east coast have em a few hundred LESS than msrp and are sitting for weeks.
Leo Jon Imutan oh i see, well like i said there’s so many dealers here exaggerating the markup fee and found one with that price, your best bet is calling everyone of your Honda dealers that you’d drive to that farthest and see, you never know
Not sure where you are, but in Tampa, FL. there is no markup. Sister in law just bought one for below MSRP, because there was a scuff in the bottom of the bumper, from someone getting to friendly with a curb.
10th gen si is fun as heck...Quick car the the torque boost helps, you can steer that car on a dime..you will be smiling the whole way through a canyon run, the car is quiet through you will have to put and exhaust( muffler delete, or downpipe) for some good sound..you will not be disappointed , now with a little tune, just makes the car waaay more fun...it is not comparable to an old si, two different cars so you will have to drive this car with wanting a new driving experience..dont look for the old feeling when driving a 10th gen compared to earlier gens...take it for what it is..the type r is in a class of its own fast car steers super well but if you can't afford it the sport hatchback and si are great platforms if your modding, a tune by itself can get you to close to mid 200s hp and torque not including bolt ons...if the type r is superman, the si is superboy, (not the comic superboy, superbly from the recent dc cartoon series)cant fly, can't beat superman, doesn't has all his powers but he's still super
@@GETUPANDGO I prefer Rays wheels design over all (if I had to just pick one)... BUT Enkei still makes some really nice wheels. My wife stuck a set of 18" Enkei RS05RR in Matte Gunmetal on her Chevy Sonic RS... She had the car custom painted a Ford Mediterranean blue metallic (2011 Ford Edge SEL paint code HQ). With the dark wheels the thing looked killer.
@@JJ_ExMachina Yeah man, wheels make a HUGE difference on cars--hoping to get some nice ones for my Si soon, it's one of many things on my vehicle to-do list, ha
@@mohamedalkaboom ... The offset on the factory wheels has them sitting well inside the fenders. To the point it looks pretty comical. That is the main issue with almost all of the newer factory wheels. To met certain requirements the wheels are not allowed to sit flush with the fender openings. The majority of people end up with offsets that allow their wheels to sit flush with the fender openings. OR at least the is the goal of most people who purchase aftermarket wheels. Some people like to "poke"... BUT thankfully that is not a very popular trend. SO a set of say Rays Volk TE37 18x8.5 +30 front 18x9.5 +40 rear, has the proper offset to allow the wheels to sit completely flush with little to no camber. SO no frog legged looking crap going on. That is the whole point of going aftermarket anyway... making the car look the way you want it to look... add a little personal touch... even if there are a million other vehicles running around with those wheels ;)
I own one w/a hondata tune this car shines best on twisty roads like we have in new england you can just leave it in 3rd and focus on the corners. the motor makes great tourque and limited slip differential digs in..a special car and a bargain
I just traded it my 17 hatchback CVT for the 19 Si I just installed the ktuner with drop in k&n filter. That car has so much torque after 3k RPMs it pulls so good no need to downshift like the old skool VTEC motors. I have owed nothing but Honda my whole life and this is the only car that I did not worry about how high the red line is. From the factory it's pretty hideous the Rev hang & how long it takes to reboost when you switch gears so ktuner is a must if you're an enthusiast
Ya; dust and dried beverage spillage in the trays are extra. I get dust on my screen. The screen produces some static that attracts the dust. They could have cleaned before viewing it.
The incredibly heavy OEM dual mass flywheel weighs 31 pounds!!!! Of corse it doesn’t want to rev!! It’s only a 1.5L. Lighter flywheel would do wonders!!
I wonder if a lightweight flywheel would reduce the revhang that these new Civics come with... I want to like these Civics but the revhang, electronic parking brake and fake ducts/intakes put me off. Great video Matt.
Drove my buddies new SI. Immediately wrote it off the moment I felt the rev hang. Quite upsetting as something like that can ruin the driving experience over time as it eats away at you.
Had those same Enkei wheels (17x9) on my 2013 WRX . Good bang for the buck.I also find the clutch on my 18 Accord 2.0 Sport grabs very high and took a couple spins to get used to. Hondas are a joy to row so it was fun practicing- lol. I like the panda (black/white) theme of this guys car. In my 2.0 Accord wheel spin is normal on anything but super flat pavement (quite annoying actually). The Accord Sport 2.0 Sport should come with (or offer) a stickier tire as the stock ones are meh and quite average.Nice review Matty-Midnight. Did this feel livelier than the 1.5 Accord ?? Oops realized you connected the dots at the end. Hey a little off topic but are we getting the Mercedes Benz A35 Hatchback ??
I do compilation videos of my reactions each time I get another 100K subscribers, so the next one will be when I hit 400K. Here's the last one I did: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JXBvFwxfVkY.html
This car should come better tuned "for performance" from the factory vice being tuned for fuel economy. At least tuned to 230HP. No one buys an Si for fuel economy but for fun. All the ECU flashes out there consistently show it is capable of so much better power. Hope in 2020 they lose the rev hang, tune this better and lose the rear fake vents.
I bought mine for fuel economy it's my daily. You cant beat it in its class for what you get. I'm getting 6.7L/100km currently commuting to work on mostly hwy.
@Trevon Adams Not into mods on my daily driver I like to keep it stock with as low maint as possible. 10th is more refined than last gens. Debated on trading in both my vehicles for an R but cant justify the body lines. 10th also looks Fugly imo.
@Trevon Adams With every newer gen Si it gets suited for an older or wider audience to accommodate more sales. Which makes sense. It's great they are still around. Driven many older ones, owned two 8th and one 9th currently over the past 11 years. The only part that gets installed is from Honda these days. My modding days are over unless its for my S550.
I test drove the 2018 Accord Sport and the 2018 Civic Sport Touring (bought the Civic) recently. Granted the SI is a different car, but the Accord felt way heavier to me then the Civic.
To all the dudes who say the k series motor is better. Do you have any idea that Honda knows their motor flies with a k motor? If their car wasn't moddable it wouldn't sell. This is honestly the best idea Honda ever did. You get a turbo Civic for 20k off the lot. You can obviously upgrade the turbo system with a tune and make tons of power... Honda wants you to mod their cars that's why the new accord sport still comes manual
A cool car. Matt, you do a good job with these reviews. By the way, has anyone ever told you that you look like a young David Caruso? You even have some of his mannerisms.
I agree with you Matt, I test drove one of these and I ended up getting a 2015 Honda Civic Si coupe, the engine just felt alive and I felt connected to it. Also you have to have IVTEC on a Si or else it's a Civic Ex with Si badges on it. Like Honda says "don't focus on the numbers focus on the driving experience"
I drive the new accord sport 2.0 manual back to back with the civic si. The accord does NOT feel more sporty. The shifter and the steering and the suspension are all tuned more for comfort and ease of effort. That's why the accord is a sport and the chvic is an Si.
IF you like the way the 1.5T Accord Sport 6MT drives, check the 2.0L Civic 6MT (2019 Sport), I think you might like it as much. It won't have the Turbo push, but if revs out nicely. With my 2017 2.0L 6MT Civic, it's easy for me to get the jump on cars off the light (easy to modulate). In this one occasion, I didn't get the jump, against 1.5T Accord Sport. For only first gear pull, our side view mirrors were dead even until I hit the redline and had to back off, cause my lane was ending. Regarding weight against Si vs Accord Sport. Accord is only 233lbs heavier the Si!! Given Accord longer wheelbase, it probably has a better weight distribution, which would explain the slightly more nimble feel.
Great review Matt, but you said the rear spoiler is optional on the SI, and I am pretty sure it is standard. Incidentally, that rear spoiler is why I will not buy the SI sedan. Sure wish Honda would have a delete option for that spoiler on the SI.
@Sergio Aguirre I might be inclined to agree that in the interest of creating one gauge for all civics they do that but the non SI had a different boost gauge that has a "0" at the bottom and a "+" at the top. The Type R has a gauge similar to the SI but it goes from -14 to 23psi. So they made a unique gauge but did not get the number correct on the SI. Honda is a fantastic company with quality products. I am just surprised by what appears to be an oops.
I've been in the market for one of these and was wondering what type of fuel you put in it. I know the owner's manual states that the car should receive premium, but can it take regular? Furthermore, I think the car has a knock sensor that changes the ignition timing caused by the difference in the fuel quality. Still, I would like to eliminate knocking altogether to preserve the engine.
if he held it through second it would have broke tread there too. these things with a tune are just nuts. can beat a wrx rolling start through 3rd with that tune.
If you don't like the responsiveness of the 10th gen, you can always go back to a 9th gen or even better an 8th gen. I remember his review for the 8th gen and him saying that the steering is too fast, and the car feels like likeit wants t be pushed all the time. You can't hae the kind of luxury you want out of a 10th gen, but to except it to be as sharp as the 8th.
Glad I got a 9th gen si! Last true vtec si. Handles like it's on rails, and it has a 7200k rpm redline. Put a small turbo on the k24 engine and it would walk all over a 10th gen.
Why are you comparing it so much to the Type R? If your going to compare the car to something compare to other cars in its price range. Its like doing a review on a WRX and then all your complaints towards it is that its not an STI. two different cars two different price points you should not compare them when they are in a different class price and performance wise.
@@medajim9092 I have one as well. Have to fully turn off traction control. Not just push the button. Pushing the button does nothing. It still senses the 1st to 2nd shift wheel spin and pulls power out.
