Well that won’t get 8x4 sheets in , so that’s no good to anyone
@vanaramauk

Tom here: Well... it's bound to suit someone. There are other trades out there that don't need to carry 8x4 sheets. It's a statement vehicle with an impressive range... I think it'll do okay.

@@vanaramauk that "statement" part is honestly a disadvantage for what should be an accessible EV. Too much comes at a premium.

@@vanaramauk oh no I’m not slagging it off mate it’s a nice van but most tradesmen I know they always say about vans can it get. 8 x 4 sheets in that’s why transit customs are so popular, please don’t be offended

Tom here: Can't argue with the possibility.

Tom here: Haha, I'm not offended, mate. Was just offering a balancing viewpoint. The range is what does it for me... and the looks. I think it'll find a crowd of lovers and get its own owners forum. LOL

It's far too up market

Tom here: You're not the first to say that to me, however I do think it'll find an audience with a certain type of business/independent user.

It will be okay as a bread van. Not enough space compared to its rivals of a similar size. Also very expensive compared to its competitors. I will be surprised if we see many on the road.

Tom here: Van drivers have always paid a premium to drive VW... that range and nearly 600kg payload is pretty interesting. I agree that price will be a hurdle, however, that's where leasing one could help... if one wanted one enough.

My employer is dead set on going all electric, my lease is up and the only van with a realistic 200 mile real life range is this one, so that’s what they’re probably going to be getting me. I agree that once the other manufacturers up their game these will become more of a quirky rarity but for now they’re the only decent option and I really like the look so am happy to go with it. I have told the boss I’m happy to stick with my current van until the new Ford Custom comes out though.

@@vanaramauk I agree, up to a point. The transporter was a good van. It was a proper full size van, that could carry a good load. You could buy a large SUV for the same money. Probably have the same carrying capacity with the seats folded and much longer range. I am just trying to work out, who the ID Buzz customers would be. I can’t see large companies, buying fleets of these, when there are larger, cheaper alternatives on the market, of traditional panel vans. Don’t get me wrong. I love the funky retro looks, but it falls short of being a practical van, for let’s say builders and companies that need to carry stuff. Why else would you have a van?

@@Steve-Cross Campers is 'why else'. (and this is quite a small camper but still useable). g wheelbase version would be significantly better.
@Steve-Cross
@Steve-Cross Год назад
@@xxwookey Yes it would be very small, for a camper and not exactly built as a tourer. Not like the old VW camper vans. It might of made more sense, if they had used the dimensions of that old workhorse, to base the ID Buzz off of. Perhaps giving it a pop-up roof so you could at least stand up in it. I still think it is overpriced for what it is. A glorified bread van. 😊

Guaranteed the range will be dismal with a decent load on.. I’m finding the cost of public charging is killing the electric benefits of having these
@vanaramauk
@vanaramauk Год назад
Tom here: Not really. The van's payload is not massively high anyway, so you're less likely to see a massive impact on the range from even maximum carrying capacity. Yes - public charging costs are very high. Home charging is slightly more affordable because it's down to your tariff.

If you're a business, do you not have business premises? And do your premises not have 3 phase power? Because I guarantee most do. Which makes your complaints almost entirely moot for the larger market.

Hoping to get one this year but needs a faster version so I'm waiting. I loaded one with 400kg and it's only as quick as my current transporter. Need more fast. However range isn't effected by weight. Still managed 2.6m/kWh loaded up.
@vanaramauk
@vanaramauk Год назад
Tom here: Interesting to hear that - I experienced the same thing regarding payload... although as someone will point out, the van's payload capacity is not high, so the range is likely to be less obviously affected than other electric vans.

The LWB version has a bigger motor so should have a bit more voom. The thing already does 70mph/120km/h doesn't it? Just how fast do you need to go. Or are you talking about use in very hilly areas?

VW promised a long wheelbase version (and are building it already in the US). Any idea when that will come to Europe?

@@pettson3816 I was told (by local VW dealer) that their current best-guess is it might be available for 1st purchase in the UK maybe March 2024. Not sure about the rest of Europe. But they don't actually know either...
