Our very first video! Today, I take a trip to Terry's Cafe, not too far from Borough Market! I've heard a lot about their breakfasts and wanted to come down and try... it didn't disappoint.
Your channel is so addictive! Can’t stop watching your vlogs. Gord blimey, haven’t had steak, fried egg and onions in donkeys years! This reminded me of the steak my mum used to cook in the early eighties.
I have just watched your very first video and I have to say that I feel like jumping on a train and going to Terry's cafe.wonderful! Positivity peace and love ♥️
Bubble and squeak with a free range egg - one of our guilty pleasures for an easy dinner! With or without bacon, it is satisfying. Takes me back to childhood where, after working hard in the field (we rented a 3 acre field to grow all our vegetables for the year), Mum would be cooking this over the edge of the bonfire, so we had a hot lunch! And it never tasted better than when you'd worked up an appetite like that! And it fueled us to continue the tasks that needed to be completed. Halcyon days of childhood!!
And the eggs we ate then and eat now were/are all free range from our own hens. Nothing beats knowing what goes into these amazing birds, to help them remain healthy and produce dark orange yolks. All natural stuff, and plenty of sunshine.
@@GaryEats It watches well enough, Gary. An auspicious start.. Had to "Give it a go..." PS, do please tell us all next time you get them why you hate mushrooms so much.
I went to Borough Market this weekend and decided to drop in for breakfast at Terry's based on your recommendation. I am glad I did, we had a very large and tasty breakfast each where the ingredients really stood out as top quality, especially the bacon, some of the best I have had in a long time. I can see why you gave such a high mark to this establishment and I would fully support that. I would recommend people give this place a try if they are in the area. We did experience a bit of a wait for a table and it is quite a small cafe and is a little cramped. If you like your space then maybe this may not be where you would want to go, but for the food and the price, it's definitely worth it for that alone.
Hi Gary, I came across your newer videos 1st so I have gone in to your list and am starting from the bottom with you at Terry’s cafe and I will work through them. I certainly enjoy watching them👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Gary, Still working my way through all your videos. Excellent marking on this one and I totally agree with it, the onions were a nice touch and very well done. I am a regular at Borough Market and will check out Terry's next time I am there. Thank you for your honestly excellent review.
Been going through your videos randomly Gary, and I have to say this place so far has had you the most enthusiastic. Food looked great, quality stuff. And for the price for what you got and where the 😅ingredients were sourced. Great Value. Top Notch 👍👍
Hi Gary! New subscriber here. Great videos, love the fact your reviews are honest and detailed. Also you're a very calming person. Keep up the good work.
Lovely food, I haven't eaten bubble 'n' squeak for decades! Looked so delicious Gary, no wonder you felt full-up. Unfortunately if I went there I couldn't scan the menu as I don't have a phone, hopefully they have old-fashioned ordering as well. Very happy to see that Mr. Cameraman was allowed a cup of tea. All the best from Tania and Chirpy Pigeon.
I lived near this cafe years ago when I was on exchange in London. My favourite place to get a quality brunch and honestly it was my biggest guilty pleasure as a frugal student. It's set my expectation for English breakfast too high and now I am almost always disappointed at other cafes. Every time I revisit, I get transported back in time and feel like that exchange student all over again. Hope it stays the same for many years to come!
Only just seen this Gary , it reminded me that i went in here in the late 1980s Breakfast i recall was very nice ,how time flies . Your meal looked very tasty also ,love steak and eggs for brunch .Good review mate
Gary, I just moved there, you are reviewing all the places I used to live and now live. I walked past so many times and wondered why it was always so busy. I’m gonna try it soon.
Just really found your channel Gary so watching some back catalogues heard of terrys looks amazing will have to try it when we are playing away in london next loving your vlogs and honest reviews
I went here on a pilgrimage from Adelaide about 2 weeks after this video! And yes, it is sensational, great ambience, excellent service, and top food. Nice to see Austin making a cameo in the background at the start 😂
Hi Gary. Thought the steak looked a bit over, but the rest of it looked bloody bangin'! Wish I was there; I think I would have ordered the same. That B&S looked like a work of art! Enjoyed the vid, pal. New to your channel, will check out more. 👍
Love your reviews. Thats another place on my list when next in London along with that curry place in Wimbledon. What I like is that you go for quality at reasonable prices too. Thank you
I just checked out your first video to see how you developed. . You only at it for 9 months?? I thought you were doing this for years. That's crazy.! You deserve all the credit you are getting. You are a natural.
A very reasonable price Gary for this meal. Enjoyed the review very much. What A great brunch. Price's very on par with what our price's are here in Australia for similar meal. Actually, thats not including a beverage ☕ tea or coffee here in Melbourne either. That would be extra very likely here. I think great value there at Terry's Cafe.
Indeed that's an American deal!.Good food,( even though I don't eat meat, but there's usually an alternative!) But not a fan of having to look up the menu on my phone, just hand me the menu pls!
Used to work on Great Suffolk st in the very early 90s & popped in to terrys for a bacon sandwich or breaky now and again. Its come along way since... I live a 10 min door to door bus ride away but i still prefer to go across the river to The regency for a good reliable full english
Never been to Terry's but i have seen photos of the inside never thought it would be so nice on the inside and outside thought it was just a normal looking cafe but it looks more like a restaurant tbf. Great upload by the way you have a new subscriber.
Terry's is probably the nicest cafe that I've been in so far on this channel. Really brings you back to the past for a brief moment. Lovely food as well. The owner is also very nice!
Hi Gary, Terry's cafe sounds great, have you tried Pellicci's cafe on the Bethnal Green Road, it's been there since 1900 serving food to the working classes, it's known for it's Art Deco interior and of course it's full English breakfast, it used to be my goal cafe until I moved away and I can recommend it to you Cheers Mike
Yep he’s good it’s where I come from the borough and to be fair a proper cafe is so rare to come by these days he does stand out. My personal favourite is regency cafe in Victoria not as high quality but not as pricey I think it represents a more classic take on a full English and the ambiance of the place is second to none in my opinion. Obviously there’s that cafe in east london featured in many reviews I’ve been there it’s great too I’d say it’s out of these three for the best in London I am and have been a courier in London for 30 years I’d say I know my stuff but hey times move on and I mainly do south london now maybe there’s a new champion out there. Last note Maria’s in borough market before gentrification of that place( it was just a fruit and veg market a few years ago) was easily the best proper greasy spoon without the grease there is a cafe in the market that still bears her name but unfortunately it’s not the same. Last shout out opposite terrys a few shops up is mustard a sandwich shop mainly but great jacket potato’s etc it as a big following in the area that is justified
Regency Cafe is on the list and I will be going there at some point soon! The café you're thinking about in East London is E Pelicci's I think, famous in the film 'Legend'. Will also be going there at some point soon. Thanks for watching Barry!
Yep it used to be known for it's ' Boozers' and I always liked eating some Grub in a traditional Cafe, while I read the paper. But as u stated, times change! I might check it out,the nxt time I'm in London!
Gary,Thought the steak was more medium than medium rare😮 i would call that steak a minute steak due to the thickness. All other components looked " the business 😊 ❤ " Not an every day meal, but high days and holidays, A treat to savour. I can imagine that they do great grab'n'go food rolls or sarnies. Breakfast Baguettes 😊😊 Price is what I'd expect to pay for a top quality brunch in that location. Did i see a second cup of tea on the table? Oh you spoil your crew😂😂😂Cheers 🥂 Allan&Family
@@GaryEats Ah the first video. That must be why we saw the 2nd cup of tea on the table, before the C.T.P found his place in the company! HA HA. I found this vlog a very free flowing, informative and interesting piece of work, well shot.Maybe you should give the C.T.P a signature shot.left table leg.a door knobs, just a very silly 😋 thought
He hadn't come up with any bad suggestions at that point so he was allowed to have a tea! Really appreciate that, especially as it was my first. Hahaha, never fail to make me laugh, Allan. Hope you had a good day.
Are you related to the late great Geoff Hamilton? You look like him and have the skill of making people listen to your every word, love your reviews Gary.
Conspired by your latest vid (where you returned here) I just had to watch this one. Nothing amiss with this - I did like that touch where you actually showed the bill. Good value. The steak looked a bit over-cooked if you asked for medium-rare. But that's my only thought.
Evening Gary the eggs looked too shiny for my liking prefer my eggs cooked longer.Bacon looked good. I know you enjoyed the bubble and squeak but it looked like a brick on the plate. Well 10/10 you really enjoyed it! Thank you it so interesting listening to you.
Compass cafe for breakfast with a twist its amazing quality produce and staff in Blackpool Birley st if fish and chips are in favour Yorkshire fisheries also in Blackpool i have been going there for years but i live in Preston so its always enjoyable when being there let you know when i can recommend others👍
Hi Gary I'm new to the channel. Love your reviews as it gives the honest-man's vreview. What happened to the chips and beans you mentioned at the beginning of the video? Would have been too much though.
I remember I went to a cafe years ago and asked for bubble and it was mash potato and peas?I hate peas more than you hate mushrooms but that bubble looks superb and I haven’t seen the review yet✌️
Hi Gary- I like Terry's cafe too as you get quality food and the owner is very hospitable. However, Regency Cafe is superior and is the best value for money in London. Since you were so close to Borough Market, I hope you stopped there and bought a few pies from Pieminister to take home!.....;)
Thought I'd go back to your beginning and work forwards. Yes, an easy 10 - the quality looked faultless. Yes, it was brunch which makes the meal fall between 2 pillars of culinary greatness ..... English breakfast and steak evening meal, so it wouldn't really suit my tastes I'm afraid as I can't get my head around this delicious mix. Not a problem really 'cause I'd have to go there twice to sort myself out lol !!!!
Didn't look bad, but the steak was a bit thin for my liking. Also, felt like something was missing... Yes, B&S is largely potato, but think it could've done with a side of sautéed spuds too. Maybe just me, but think they go great with steak as the occasional break from good ol' chips :) Would give them a go though were i in the vicinity.
@@GaryEats I agree. In Australia, we only see a service charge in 5-star restaurants (and it's still usually optional)... maybe, occasionally on public holidays. I don't remember seeing that last time I was in England, not even London, but it's been 4 years since my last visit. You expect it in the U.S., not England!
Really good presenting style. Viiewing another person's enjoyment (vicariously) could be annoying. However, I sense no smugness whatsoever. In fact, quite the opposite. Just gives me an incentive to follow in Gary's footsteps.
Hi Ronnie. Got a special Pie and Mash upload coming this week with not one but two famous Pie Mash shops in London so make sure you tune in! Have a good weekend.
