Holy nostalgia, I used to play gmod so much back in my teens. I'm surprised de_dolls or ttt_67thway didn't make it to this list, I feel like every single ttt server used to have these two maps in their rotation back in the day.
Oh I remember de_dolls! That map was so cool. Only reason I didn’t include it though is because it originally was a counter strike map so I didn’t really think it was “fitting”
i was waiting for de_dolls, theres even a later version in the thumbnail. as for 67thway though, i started playing gmod in like 2013 so it had been replaced by other maps
6:48 Domokun and [redacted] Bear are distinct characters. 7-11 actually ran a Domokun promotion for a time, I still use the Slurpee cup I got from it to this day.
I love when everyone is like "Yeah white room. Oh yeah dark room". And there are a couple of gmod devs or just smart people who knows that these rooms are built for lightning testing purposes. Gm construct is almost literally dev's playground to test their work.
really? as a kid those felt so mystical like that weird white room felt like walking into a different dimension. and ofc the dark room was incredibly creepy.
Oh well maybe because 99.9% of people playing gmod isn't a gmod dev? And I'm guessing your one of those smart people who knew this completely obvious fact?
@@the_motherfucker He seems to be the type to say if you don't know something he does then you qualify as an idiot. People who usually think they are really smart are most likely an idiot themselves without realizing it.
gm_bigcity's two tallest buildings are made to resemble the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. If you click the action button (E by default) on the doors of the South Tower (first tower) you teleport to the top of it. It's a nice way of commemorating what happened to those towers in real life
3:22 Hey, apologize to my younger self, I used that as my base in the ancient Gmod9 days, and obsessively spent HOURS fortifying it into an invincible (albeit small) bunker
rp_downtown is one of my favorite maps I've played for DarkRP. I still remember setting up a mafia family, and just printing money, and then getting killed because I was a stupid child. Fun memories, and this is nostalgic.
Woah. All of the easter eggs in gm_bigcity just hit me at once, like a time knife. There was more than one accessible hidden room, a few actually. As well as hidden sounds, and some doors that teleport you to roofs etc
Every British GMod player knows gm_shambles in real life, it’s an incredibly accurate model of UK suburban estate found all across the country. I’d play it with my friend who lived in a house like the ones seen on the map
@@operator2393 Because I’d already said “British” and “UK” in my original comment... that includes Scotland by default so you didn’t need to say “also Scotland”
probably one of the only types of servers i was a regular on, building ships or pretending to be the police was so much fun as well as trying to make the cheesiest, hardest to find, sniping box and pick people off in spawn
7/11 was my main map back in the day, when I first went into the elevator I was very scared by it, instead of doing what I probably would have done in any other situation, I decided to keep using the map despite discovering something that terrified me! Ever since then I would always block up the elevator and try to “contain” this thing that was literally just red lights and it’s so hilarious to me now that I look back at me barricading and containing red lights. I even do it now whenever I play the map, whether there is still a part of me thats scared of the red lights or if I do it because of old habits, I do not know.
I still use 7eleven when just messing about or trying new addons. Though I do have a lot of fond memories of building things in de_school (because kitty0706) or cs_suburb.
On gm_construct I used to go into the little room behind you where you spawn spawn a lot of fences and then freeze them in place then spawn zombies of any kind outside and NPC's inside and then play it out like its a little zombie apocalypse it was pretty fun
lmao I did this too. You could also funnel them like sheep into various brutal traps. Or setup a gladiator arena where you'd have a few human NPC's fight for survival against zombies and see who lives the longest.
I used to admin for a sandbox server which ran gm_bigcity by default. We had absolutely insane fort wars. Paratrooper drops to bypass terrain, infantry ambushing tanks, tons of verticality in shootouts, and just street barricades getting leveled by PewPew artillery using direct fire. It was absolute madness and I miss it.
As a general rule, I tried to secure the top of the twin towers first and lob 105mm shells anywhere we had line of sight with. It was like cheating. It also made us super hard to hit with arty or air power.
While I do agree that roblox does straight up rip off things, when it comes to people, for example kids whose parents won't buy them games like garry's mod or csgo, roblox is good for serving as an substitute to those games, as most of the time, the games are free on the roblox platform.
Roblox is just shit The good games on Roblox are like Eeeehhh games And the community is just 7 year olds And the kids that actually have talent Roblox just stole their money That's why Roblox is shit and just crap
10:34 I remember in this map, there was an underground sewer area with these huge open rooms that me and my friends would make “money” in. We just set our pots on the wall so the plants would fall into the net below once they’re done growing. And it was a great place to base since all the “dealers” are near the sewer entrances.
Nice vid! But sfm isnt correct term for the animations, that is its own thing and tool for animators which valve uses, I think what you were looking for are just animations or just gmod machinimas, otherwise nice work :].
It's a very lackluster video. Half the maps, no research was done into the background or "there's a secret room but idk where it is". And the audio recording is terribly low quality and constantly cliping. Idk why this even popped up in my feed today.
A secret I found out in gm_construct (not mentioned in this video) is that you can crouch under the smooth stairs (At 2:45 they're to the right of the screen) and sneak into a secret room, pretty cool.
Weird to me so many people are nostalgic over an era of Gmod I didn’t pay attention to. My memory’s of Gmod are from 2007-2010 before there was even such a thing as a Steam Workshop. You used to have to download mods from Facepunch and good luck figuring out which folder it was supposed to go to. Idiots of Garry’s Mod era was the true glory days.
bro you are horribly underrated as a youtuber, i promise you if you keep it up people will start flocking to your channel, like you earned a new sub fosho
The reason why Elevator: Source wasn't working is because you were playing in the Sandbox gamemode instead of the one built for the map. It still works perfectly fine, other than some of the interactable things at the end like the TV and Billiards.
I loved Elevator: Source! There was a server that had various HL2/CS voice lines that you could make play using the Say command. I played on it so much I made some key bindings to easily trigger the lines. Those bindings are still in my config today!
I started playing Gmod around late October of 2022 (I did not have a computer of my own up until that month) And Gmod and TF2 were the first games I played on steam. And trust me, having almost 200+ hours invested into the game are a bunch of hours of my life messing around with a shit ton of mods and creating a few posters here and there IS AMAZING.
Do anyone still remember Venturiantale showcased in the video as its a sweet touch on how they use to upload and the ways they came up with funny vids :)
9:55 someone called the cops over to that area in one server I was on, me and 3 others went and he told us there was a problem in his basement, we went in then he killed one guy, and held me and another hostage, then killed me. So yeah, sketchy stuff does happen there
Just having "Where's your head at" by Basement Jaxx start playing in my head. I mean Vanoss and the guys are famous and cool but Idiots of Garry's Mod, man this shit was magical. 13 Years ago....damn.
There is a part 2 for one shot! It overlays the Original and uses some of your progress data so you should probably 100% percent the game before that. Also, cool thing you missed: You can grow the plant lady in the city just left of the big robot, and use water pill to GROW her.
GM_Shambles is one of my all-time favourites, and the day version is just as creepy. I wish there were more Gmod maps based on British housing estates like Shambles was
@@I_Am_Inside_Your_Head what are you talking about i mean seriously we're just talking about the twin tower memorial about 9/11 not you're weird conspiracy theory
RP Downtown had some wild times. Vaping with homeless people in a parking lot, epic chess battles in the courtyard, selling crack out of my nice suburban apartment.. things you just can't get out of any other game.
Man, the CS:GO office map is super nostalgic to me for some reason, I only played on it in Pavlov a couple months ago, I don't know why it's so nostalgic.
I remember a long time ago i watched my first video about gmod. It was on gm_construct, they were running from something near the secret room. I thought "what is this game, i want to play it". My pc at the time couldn't even run Minecraft. And now i can play gmod because my pc has more than 512 mb of ram
@@xxxod lmao same, although it wasn't limited to just l4d stuff, it usually was part of it but i watched alot of stuff like gmod idiotbox and kitty0706 (R.I.P)
This was a incredibly blast from the past when i used to watch a lot of Gmod videos and is really nice to see this maps getting love Also, not sure if someone told you this before but you sound like Mike from Red Letter Media and at some point i was expecting a "but you're brain did" gag or you laughing at old people
A very good map for Gmod that existed and now it's gone was Waterloo High School (night version) It was a beautiful map with a big school, campus, store, train station and so,this map was arround 2016 to 2017 if I remember correctly.
I remember most of these maps, I remember not exploring the 7-Eleven basement because it was to scary for my 12 or 13 year old self, But if anyone what’s to know my fondest memory I’ll just drop it off here. So my little sister who was like 6 or 7 boots up an RP map with a train and a few empty building, Sorry that's the only identification I can offer I don’t remember the name, And she set up a store and had a little anime girl and her mother buy a bag of Doritos from some guy in power armor of some sort, Their poses were very janky and it was really cute and funny and I’ll never forget it for some reason it’s something I can only describe as a G-Mod moment. Ya know? 🙂
i dont think you fully understand most of why these maps were so popular at the time. picture it: it's 2009, you just got back home from school, you decide whether you want to join your friends on console or boot up tf2 or gmod. you end up choosing gmod on-which you play on one of these maps, you spawn ragdolls, props, and create scenes in which you can mess around in. I myself really enjoyed adding props such as cans and essentials to shops in - for example - the 7eleven map, and bigcity was hugely popular for people who wanted to noclip onto the roofs and throw ragdolls off of them. It was a silly era for us teens growing up and the ones that did would understand what made these maps so nostalgic/historic.
15:37 Roblox is a platform for people to make games That game wasn't made by Roblox it was made by a Roblox user That's just putting the blame on the company for something they didn't even do Edit: also the floors are VERY different than the gmod ones
I'm going to sub and be notified for part 2! this video had inspired me to edit better, if u can pls review some fnaf maps they are my childhood and others might appreciate it as well :)
Though the company sucks. Alot. They recently refused to ban a MAP who had a group and shirt for "MAP Appreciation" He had even said openly that he was one. So the hate isn't undeserved. (There are so many other reasons the company sucks but this is the main one that people are hating on rn)
not everything and everyone are bad on roblox, yes its true that lots of popular games were ripped off from the creators on roblox but thats because they wanna be able to experience the fun that these games provide without spending money, say little kids who watch gmod videos and discover a roblox gmod, they get to live out practically the real thing. This is just experience from a fellow roblox user and correct me if im wrong on anything. Before playing roblox though, I used to watch vannoss and gmod videos so I know the nastolgia feeling for this video. This is actually really well made and brings back some good memories from a long while ago. Thank you.
The thing with CS:S'S office map is that the T side can grenade some cabinets to block off a doorway for cover. That's what makes CS:S more fun than CS:GO with it's physics props.
rp_townsend_v2 was an rp map that never got used on a popular server or the credit it deserved. It has a functioning tram system and elevator in town hall.
Man you just have no idea how much I miss rp_downtown_v4c_v2... Literally the majority of my early teen childhood was spent there on DarkRP. It was never really 'serious rp' like you find in for example GTA V RP where if you're a police you have to talk in police code and arrest people for the littlest things, no it was much more chill than that. You could grind money printers, rob banks, sell guns, grow and sell drugs, the possibilities were just so endless and the servers barely had any P2W features like they do today with all their 'VIP and Super VIP' bullshit packages and so on... What I would give to go back to that time and relive the experience all over again... good times indeed :')
To find the gm_bigcity office Easter egg, there should be a red hallway somewhere near the edge of the map. Go down it and press E on the door, and you should be teleported there.
The gm_shambles map were very interesting, it's a shame the creator died in a car accident he had so much potential. I still remember everyone hunting for a gnome because of an empty gnome spot in a back garden, people saying they saw shadowy figures in the distance, bells going off at random even tho there's no church in the map.
I've played this game for so long that my other top 4 playtimes combined don't even scratch this game's. No matter what you do, there's a rabbit hole of mods maps and servers for it, which gave it basically infinite replayability, I still remember how to get to one of the only hidden rooms on GM_bigcity from my days of build-and-kill servers. And oh boy, Venturiontale is a name i haven't heard in forever now.
Even though I never got the chance to play gmod myself in it’s early days, mainly cause I didn’t have a pc myself and I was also a kid at the time I remember watching a lot of gmod sandbox videos back then and I recognize most of these maps!
GM BIGCITY enterable room 4:59 See that small building infront of the massive tower he is looking at. Go to the alley way of the left of the small building and in there is a recessed area, I think you just press e on a door there or it teleports you when you get close. Can't remember, but I know that is it.
