Revisiting Mega Evolution and How It Never Really Left || PoxxVGC 

People really took for granted how past 6th Gen that Megas were actually still around. Like you said Lets Go and the SM/USUM games still had Mega Evolution. Even the nonmainline games kept mega evolution idea alive with Pokemon Mystey Dungeon Games, (Gates to Infinty, Super, and Rescue Team DX), Pokken Tournament DX, Pokemon Go, Pokemon Masters Ex, Pokemon Unite, and of course even the anime. Yes even after Ash left Kalos, it was still around. Ash & Misty had it when they reunited with Ash in Sun&Moon, and it was everywhere in Pokemon Journeys especially in the World Coronation Series and the Master 8 Tournament. Heck I bet there is a manga that has it in some form post XY. Honestly if you really think about it it never really left just took a break from being the main focus.

Its not that the mechanic is OP intrinsically and therefore needs to be restricted to casual play. Its that Gamefreak sucks at balance. I mean no sane developer would give a pokemon with 170 special attack and 130 speed shadow tag. And in concept, metas similar to megas were never removed. Megas behave almost identical to a restricted format. You get 1 (or 2 depending on the format) super OP legendary on your team thats blatanly stronger than everything else and that your team is built around. Zacian instantly terrorized VGC for all of Gen 8 for the same reason Mega Kanghaskhan did but probably even worse. It was overcentralizing and required that people built around it or against it in order to win. So to me its not about balance as for why megas were removed. Gamefreak makes plenty unbalanced metagames even with megas gone.

The interesting thing about Let's Go and Rescue Team DX, is that they're still considered gen 7 games. Although I think RTDX was released after Sword and Shield... it has the learnsets of the Ultra games. Makes me wonder how long it was in development for.

About the whole "No pokemon game this holiday season", according to the rumor mill Switch 2 was originally coming out this year but got delayed. So it is legitimately possible that Gamefreak has nothing lined up for this year (Also i think XY remakes are likely coming before Gen 5, restricting Z-A to just Lumiose feels like a deliberate decision to build Kalos hype).

Also the alola trials would work almost PERFECTLY with a legends arceus style game (or I guess also scarlet violet but la has more options)

thing is they still haven't released a new mega in going to be over 10 years by the time za comes out. I think it's kinda fair for people to assume it's kinda dead even if you play some of pokemons casual games. Think it would make the most sense to keep it as an optional in competitive or ban it all together and still include it for the 95% of people who like it but never play competitive.

I agree with your stance that Mega Evolution was never removed. However, there is a very good chance it will return in Gen X. Why? New Mega Evolutions. Look at the previous Legends game. It had new forms and evolutions introduced within but no way to use them in multiplayer. Then S/V came along and had the data for all of those Pokemon. This can only fall apart if there aren't new Mega Evolutions but since they went out of their way to confirm their return, that's unlikely.

Mega evos honestly aged well and grew on me a lot. Only gripe is when starters and psuedos and other great mons get mega. I like choices like mawile and sableye, normally bad mons

I doubt they will give Xerneas and Yveltal a direct buff because zygarde is supposed to be the strongest of the three and zygarde complete was already established as zygarde’s peak. Also if they were going to get new forms how come this wasn’t the case in the anime, gen6, or gen7 when we got ash greninja and zygarde forms proper.

If it’s only ZA, I think that would be a good thing because they could put all their effort and focus onto only one protect

I'm sure there's another Pokemon game in the pipelines, especially in development if we're going to be pedantic about it, because games take years to make. But I doubt it's something as big as BW 3 or a BW remake is coming out this year. Only time will tell.

I hope, maybe even go so far as to _pray_ that we do *not* get a Pokémon game this year. We need a break from the yearly releases. Scarlet and Violet showed that.

There literally was two different time lines with and without megas

I don’t like the battle mechanics of Pokémon GO. I want to do what Ash did in Pokémon Journeys where he used Dynamax, Mega Evolution, and Z-moves in one battle against Leon! And Mega Evolution isn’t quite the same without abilities in Let’s GO Pikachu and Eevee. So, Mega Evolution nerfed never left and is relegated to casual games, but Mega Evolution at full power left completely.

Well don't forget rom hacks. A lot of them include mega evolutions, and even some new ones, for people to use.

Let's be honest, mega evolutions are too over powered.
