I can't tell you how often I will use this, Jeff! I have been lugging my workstation laptop around for years. When on vacation, I take my backpack full of stuff and set up for a few hours prior to my wife being ready to roll. This will be a game-changer! Thanks for providing all kind of productivity tools for this 65-year-old Revit user. Who would have thought, when I started using AutoCad on my 8088 computer (with floppy drives!) ....

This is awesome news! For years I have researched ways to do this but there was always so much lag that it just wasn't worth it. I'd love to test this out on my iPad and see how well it works. If so, then when I'm gone on trips or out of the office but don't want to take a full laptop with me, this is definitely going to be my go-to option. Got unexpectedly stuck outside of my home city for an extra few days and this would have saved my butt being able to use an iPad. Thanks for posting!

So excited, as a new Revit designer I’ve thought about how there should be accessibility to Revit or Bluebeam on the go. Turns out that Revit wasn’t an option and Bluebeam app is more of a hassle. With this capability I believe some smoother sails are ahead. Thanks for the update and I can’t wait to get up to work on this option tomorrow!

What a great option! I would love to be able to use Jump Desktop to run Revit on my iPad. The massive size of our laptops really make them semi-portable desktops. The flexibility of using the iPad would allow for better collaboration with team members, owners, and clients. We work in 3d and then try to explain it all to others in 2d. Using the model itself would streamline the process and help to make us more efficient .

Very cool tool tip! Many thanks for sharing. I think the portable nature of running Revit to an iPad could be a very useful for jobsite visits, remote productivity, or even simply pulling the model up in front of a potential client in a coffee shop rather than having to be tethered to a desktop. We are overseeing construction of a 21 floor residential building and being able to do inspections and make model adjustments on site using this workflow would be very helpful as one tends to forget some detail or need more context when problem solving off site requiring additional site visits, this flow would allow me to inspect and address the issue on site there and then. Yes! This will change the game. Whilst I’ve been using my MacBook Air as a lightweight portable interface for years - remoting to my power PC. I love using the iPad Pro and magic keyboard onsite/out of the studio, but not being able to access and spin the model has been its Achilles heel. This is the solution I’ve been wishing for. Quick question - how does it manage a multiple monitor desktop setup?
@TheRevitKid
@TheRevitKid Год назад
So I suggest unplugging any additional monitors because I find it to be just easier to work with... All that being said, Jump Desktop lets you flip between all of your monitors (cycling) or showing all of the monitors at once. It's actually very nice... There is a keyboard short cut to cycle from monitor to monitor.
@richardatkins2961
@richardatkins2961 Год назад
@@TheRevitKid thanks Jeff - that makes sense. In truth, I’ve been using a remote access for so long, I reverted to a single monitor Revit setup years ago (even when I’m in-studio)… honestly, I got tired of clicking away with a dialogue open on the other screen :) Ooh, and the best news is Jump are having a Black Friday sale - NZ$12. Hi! I'm so happy I found your video. Even if I'm here a couple of years later :) I was wondering if it's possible for the Ipad to host Revit, rather than jump desktop? I don't have a lot of resources to buy an Ipad plus also a laptop to host the Revit. The laptops I have not are 7 and 10 years old, so the hardware is significantly outdated. I was looking for something portable like an I pad or perhaps a surface, with the added benefit of touch screen. But reviewing the specs I see that the dedicated graphics are borderline for Revit. If I want something with a better graphics card, then I have to sacrifice touch screen and portability, and go with a clunker, lol. I might still have to, or maybe I should get two "middle of the road" devices, an I pad and a laptop? I would greatly appreciate your comments.
@TheRevitKid
@TheRevitKid Год назад
You cannot run Revit on an iPad or Mac natively. If we are doing small projects only you can get away with a more budget friendly machine. A dedicated graphics card is 100% a bare minimum… you’ll thank me later.

Hey! This video makes me reaaally happy! I'm a student and my favorite thing is to go to new coffee shops to study while I drink a cup of coffee. Knowing that I could continue to do all the stuff without having to carry a heavy backpack its really amazing! I would love to win and try Jump Desktop. Thanks for this video!!

This is a dream!! I always wondered if it’s possible to just use my iPad on the go instead of bringing laptop & iPad. I wonder if you hook up a windows keyboard to avoid toggling Ctrl, alt, shift on the screen. Does iOS recognize windows keyboard via Jump Desk? Next up, we need a fully functioning Bluebeam app for iOS….

Yes, you can 100% use a bluetooth keyboard with windows Keys and it works well! I just really liked the magic-keyboard as a case/keyboard combo lol

10:10 you can use Microsoft powertoys and remap your keys in your windows machine. I personally remapped the "~" key which right under the actual escape key. The apple keyboard has the same key. I changed that key in the windows machine because no one (99%) uses that key anyway.

I should also say that my main need is AutoCAD not Revit. They have the AutoCAD mobile app but I find it’s just too lightweight to use besides doing a few extremely basic site revisions/markups. If anyone has any clever suggestions I’d love to hear them :)

I really need to try Jump Desktop. I’m the resident nerd at my office, so it doesn’t bother me to run Microsoft Remote Desktop. I have wondered about other solutions such as Citrix or other “Autodesk certified” RD or VDI environments. It always makes me a little worried bringing a $5,000+ laptop to job sites.

Jump Desktop looks like it might answer my problem. I work on my own and when on site I don't have any means of getting work off my desktop (no one to call) and Jump Desktop looks like it will allow me to access my project files directly, if I need to amend something or check dimensions. Please throw me into the random generator 🙂

Great video thanks. Am I right in saying that you would need to leave your computer online at your office? I am about to take a 2 month overland holiday and want to pack as light as possible. I don’t plan to work too often but I would love to have access to everything on my iPad while I’m away. My main concerns are if the system shuts down (power outage) or there is a glitch back home the whole setup will fail. Am I right in saying that?
@TheRevitKid

I am able to start my laptop remotely as long as my internet is working at home or where the laptop is stationed… wake on lan should be turned on in windows … not sure if any other settings are required… obviously test it before you leave lol
@Seychelllian
@Seychelllian Год назад
@@TheRevitKid Sure, I can enable the wake on LAN option but it feels like a slightly precarious situation to be in where if the power cuts at your office or the modem fails you have no way to recover the connection (short of having someone go and physically sort the situation out for you in your absence)
@TheRevitKid
