Thanks for the comparison. I don't do miniatures, only functional parts. I've just purchased the Ferret SE purely on price. It does appear to function well enough for what I want to achieve from my research online. Reverse engineering a part. It is also 25% of the cost as the Revopoint. $243 to my door as of this comment.
I own a CR Ferret and a Revopoint Range. I pretty much scan mid to large items such people or midsize items. Revopoint Studio scan is terrible, but Revo scan 5 works very well. The only problem with Revopoint products like Range and the Pop 2, which I previously own or less forgiving when you lose tracking. The tracking is much better than the Ferret, but the Ferret is more forgiving when lose tracking is regained. I would still give Revopoint the edge over Creality Products due to the fact that Revo 5 scanning software, better tracking less requirements of a phone or PC to connect. You have a pc with 3.0 usb to get a quality scan with the Ferret.
Revopoint seems to be focusing exclusively on Revoscan 5 at the moment. I'm really glad I picked up the MINI 2. It captures a lot of detail, and the software is good enough.
Good review and very thorough. I've had a project in mind for a few years, making copies of an antique heirloom doll, that I've considered using 3d scanning. Mostly been waiting for technology to improve and costs to come down and these look very promising!
For my ferret I built a turntable. I put the marker dots all over that turntable and the tracking has been pretty solid. I also have my turntable set to tunr 3.6deg and then stop for 1.5 second. This amount of time is just a bit more then it takes for the ferret to get everything it can from that scan angle. You see the frame counter and triangle counter will stop increasing. If you can consistently get those counters to stop you'll have a much better time getting the tracking to keep track. Intersetingly I do not see the markers on my scan. only in the 2 side windows that show you what the cameras see can i see the markers. Mine are also white 5mm dots printed into the bed level with the beds surface and i have the flat surface option set to ignore.
Nice video 👍 the text detail worked as a good way to show resolution between the scanners. I thought the way you showed the software worked really well as well. Loved it
revopoint mini 2 standard, for europe is 1150$, discounted form 1280$, creality ferret se is 260, discounted from 345, so the revopoint mini 2 is 4.5 times more expensive without the fancy turntable.

Dug around more the Ferrat is not for small scans I kind knew that even with spray you gonna have a hard time its specifially says 150mm or larger. So about 6 inches, you doing what 3-4inch minis its not built for that. I saw a dude scan his head with it, and scanned a kids power wheel to make 3d printed add ons for it, that is what ferret is built for you need a scanner built for minutures and they do exist but yeah it had issues even seeing those tiny things becuase it was below the min size its designed for. It uses CAMERAS that are spaced apart to scan using that so if its too small it can't make any sense out the camera data as the gap between cameras isn't set for something that little.
26:47 you can’t print something and say the accuracy of the scanner is off. You can have up to 0.5mm tolerance on a printed part depending on geometry and material and printer calibration. Use cloud compare or meshmixer to measure the scan.
Creality Ferret SE better know by the name "Intel Realsense" :P B.T.W. to scan black and reflective stuff i use a spray can with special paint that flashes off after a few hours. donnno what its called. "AESUB 3D Scanning Spray " is one of them
Looks the same lol, i'm aware that there are dissappearing sprays for scanning if you look for a non destructive surface application. This is just to show off the weakness of the scanners.
@@NoizieWorks But you not using it as intended is the issue one mini 2 is for scanning smaller things creality isn't and 2 the creality needs spray to be optimal its like saying "well I choose not to use the flash on the camera to show its weakness" you not showing its weakness your showing yours. It requires more stuff. Like all creality stuff my stock ender 3 is not very good at all they require a lot little tweaks to be good, and this case the spray for those kind of objects is actuall kind of standard for all scanners similiar to it. Again its like holding back on purpose. In fact its more like going "well I got this chainsaw and it didnt' do good" and some one went "you got put chain oil on it, it don't come with it." and you go "well I am showing the weakness." Its like that isn't a weakness persay its just a thing some them do assuming you got chain oil already, and the manual wil ltell you to use it. Same deal guides and manual should told you you would need spray... You could show it with the spray and explain its a con as its an added expense. Just like honestly there might be stuff you can add to the revopoint mini 2 scans that would improved it too. It just feels like you running it half cocked, and the revi is designed to be more forgiving and again creality cuts corners for cost making you need to calibrate and tweak things other one is more expensive and designed to work better out the box people should alread know that I want see them used properly not out the box with no idea what you doing on settings sigh...
@Zalzany I'm afraid that you are missing the point. This is not a review but an out of the box experience that i share so you have a basic understanding on what these systems are capable of testing on models and a functional part with the Creality being a budget option (most similar options use the same IR camera tech) This is going to be the experience you get wired to a laptop between 2 types of scanning tech. Creality claims to be a scanner for the smaller objects 50mm³ all the way up to a complete car. If you are looking for your use case there will be plenty off channels doing just that but for me this is the result you get out of the box for this use case.
Wouldn't any iPhone with the Lidar SMASH those results? Genuine question, I'm on Android... I just seem to remember, that you could do serviceable scanning with the iPhone? I was pretty disappointed with the performance of the scanners tested in the vid... thanks for the test!
No problem, the revo is fairly decent imo. Not sure about an iphone and the lidar, probably will be limited in resolution but would have to test that not that i'm planning on it right now 😅
no the lidar will not get anywhere close to the details of the mini2 .. maybe the ferret but the ferret and mini are for 2 completely different use cases large vs small
