warning: answering the question about animals and Spite, it ain't pretty. there is a big difference between an insect that you do not want to eat which has no idea why it is brightly colored (hell, a lot of them _can not see_ those bright colors) vs true Spite, that said it's not the weirdest thing to see in animals either...though it _is_ rare for it to be a major trait and rarer still for an animal to be physically built around it, the only ones I can name off the top of my head are Humans and most varieties of Pig. the basic requirements for Spite to start making a lot of sense are 1: it needs to be a social animal (preferably one that breeds quickly) and 2: it needs to have some capacity to chase things, being able to actually _hurt_ things is super friggin' helpful too but that is both not actually a hard requirement _and_ a trait that most animals have already. and no that was not a channel-name joke, Pigs are psychotic unnaturally murder-obsessed monsters even compared to something more stereotypical like a wolverine or badger or even a hippo, while they are most famous for charging forwards and running spears all the way through themselves so that they can get at their attackers to kill them they have been recorded _consistently_ doing things like that up to and including absurd extremes like the front half of a pig spending a good two minutes or so crawling forwards to try to gore people after it got bisected in a loading dock...the thing even realized it didn't have a back half anymore and changed it's method of locomotion a few seconds in, I'm not exactly kidding when I call them "monsters".
