I’ve finally returned to rFactor 2 and the fantastic BTCC series. However, it’s not with Low Fuel Motorsport. Participation on the LFM rF2 servers has been in decline for a while now, and it’s become increasingly hard to find a decent grid.
All is not lost though. My good friends at the SCB Sim Racing community have just started an rFactor 2 BTCC series… and I’ve signed up for it!
In this video, I’m bringing you highlights of two races at Thruxton… and boy, are they good! This really does showcase the very best of rF2.

Haha, I took that exact route several times during practice, and it makes iRacing’s grass feel grippy! Hit the brakes… you speed up. Lift off the gas… you speed up!

Ha Ha, what you failed to see is I was cruising in second place, right up to when my front suspension collapsed, from then on trying to keep up with you lot was oh so scary, bloody chicane. Sure was a most amusing and action packed race though, bodes well for the rest of the series! Apologies for the clip in race 2, I tried to miss you at first, decided I was going to hit you anyway, so tried to hit you as square on as possible but hey ho, it spun you anyway. Cracking battle made even better with your commentary. Such an exciting brace of races, really looking forwards to Oulton Park! The cars and track were great fun. Another great CR Production, top drawer mate!

Ahh now that would explain how Jerry caught you so easily! No apologies needed for race 2, cracking battle and a bump was always likely. I was sliding through that section way more than I should on most laps… that’s probably why the tap sent me off, I was already in mid-slide. You had a much cleaner line through there, whereas I don’t think I took the same line twice all evening 🤣 A pleasure as always, and hopefully we’ll renew the battle next week!

Thanks Nick, yeah every week I head to the LFM schedule in the hope of doing an rF2 race, but participation is so low now. Very occasionally, you’ll find a grid with 10+ cars on it, usually around 8-9pm, but sadly it’s mostly single digit entries. I’m glad I entered this series though - it was a blast being back in the BTCC cars (thanks again for that donation). It runs every Wednesday evening for the next 5 weeks… Oulton, Croft, Brands, Donington and Knockhill still to come 😃

It wouldn’t have been anywhere near as fun without the bumps and taps and going on! That’s what made it :) it’s nice to have confidence in the sim that you can enjoy a bit of door-banging, without fear of a 15min pit stop after the slightest nudge. Roll on next week!

@@firstjayjay It’s nor the easiest sim to setup, rFactor 2. Takes quite a bit of patience to get wheels, pedals and graphics running as they should. Also, Steam workshop subscriptions, and the way the game manages downloadable content, is a little quirky too. Fine once you get the hang of it, just a bit different to the usual sims.

My pleasure. I really enjoy rF2. When it’s working well, it really does feel great. But it’s like climbing a mountain… to enjoy the view, there’s a lot of effort to get there! Installing, setting up and the like is a little more complicated than it needs to be. And servers can sometimes be a bit unreliable. But it’s worth persevering with!

Gutted that LFM hasn't taken hold in rF2. I wonder what has stopped the community from sticking with it. Anyway, it's nice to have the longer video. How you maintain so much energy throughout is beyond me, but it certainly makes for compelling viewing. I'll look up SCB myself.

Yeah, it’s a real shame. There was such a buzz about it for the first season. I look through the grids each week to try and join one, but usually there’s only like 4-5 signed up. It’s a vicious circle… people don’t sign up because the grids are small, but they’ll never get bigger because people don’t sign up! I needed an rf2 fix, so the SCB series starting up was perfect timing

Nice one mate, really pleased you joined the series. I was feeling under the weather last week, but hoping to be back this week. The relative leaderboard is the free version of RaceLabs overlay… you can add a lot of things. I add the leaderboard, the radar and the flags. That frees up the rF2 hud in the bottom right to always display tyres 👍

Good racing, if that league is not fixed setup, the front wheelers need a bit of setting up to use the rears more. The fronts have taken a beating. Maybe try looking into that. I have only tried a short practice and never really got used to the car, so i cant help at all. I will try maybe next lfm season.

Yeah, it’s open setup, this series. I was struggling in practice with default setup, so I was recommended a few tips by the guys in the race. I made a few simple changes to front tyre pressure, brake bias /pressure, which did make me about 1sec quicker. But still plenty more that I could do with it, if I had the time.

Fun couple of races. Thruxton's a pretty weird track. Not sure if I like it or hate it. Had some good community races there in the past but that chicane is really tricky to get right because of that bend before it, especially in AC. And Church ... depending on the sim, you can either abuse it or it abuses you. Just realised that the circuit is very similar to the old Silverstone F1 layout with just a couple of chicanes thrown in. Been busy with ACC around Paul bloody Ricard. Finally out of Rookies but heading back there at this rate because everyone wants to win on the first couple of laps. Think I'll start from the back, give the others some distance for a couple of laps and wait for them to kill each other to get my safety rating back up. Was funny to see one guy taken out saying in chat that "it's happening every race! Animals!"

Ahh yes, I made the decision to give Paul Ricard and ACC a wide berth this week! I’ve never raced it, so would have needed to learn it from scratch, and it’s never really appealed to me. Sorry to hear your week isn’t going to plan on it!

@@chrisrogerssimracing Yeah, it's not a great circuit. Really difficult to figure out because of the lack of reference points and the weird corners. It's the only track where I'm adjusting TC mid-race because there are parts that seem to have zero grip - at least the way I drive. Just had a decent race. Started P18 and was in 8th until I made a mistake under pressure two corners from the end. Finished 12th. But no bumps or scrapes, so all good.

I listened to Traction GGs podcast with the head guy at RaceRoom and it got me interested again. Anyways, I am glad I started racing in it again. It is so good and the ranked racing is great. I am surprised it isn't way more popular. It is as much fun as LFM, and there is variety.

@@GIddyUpRetep I always liken RaceRoom to a comfy pair of slippers that I sometimes take for granted. The racing is always close, and it feels safer to race closer than in other sims. Yesterday I went into iRacing for a Ferrari race and it was appalling… me and several others were wrecked on the formation lap, so my race was ruined before it even started. I thought I’d cheer myself back up with a RaceRoom race, and it worked 😃

Ahh yes, but not in this series - it’s limited to the BTCC 2021 cars, and they don’t have P2P. I think it’s the 2022 and 2023 cars that have it 😃
