I’ll confess, I actually really dig the first two Afflicted Convulsion demos. The “Lee Dorrian screaming down manhole” style of vocals on the second demo just tickle me pink for some reason. Maybe my enjoyment of Goatlord has done something to me, but I have a real soft spot for abysmally produced demos with wacky vocals, especially the ones that everybody else hates. Great episode, this one was a lot of fun!
I actually do kinda like the second one, it's just hard to hear anything going on whenever the vocals start. Really does sound like a rehearsal. You might like the Evocation's 1992 rehearsal if you haven't heard it, it's got that Goatlord/Afflicted Convulsion kind of sound to it as well.
Talking about Swedish music… If you haven’t recognised it, I think you will love the music by bands connected to the Swedish musician Sir N. I would recommend to check out the album “Malignant Morningstar” by “Grifteskymfning” to get hocked. For elaboration of the diversity of the projects, I can recommend as second the “Avgrundens konst” album by “Kaos Sacramentum”. And for further exploration I recommend checking out the various projects on the Svartrit Bandcamp page. Bands like “Grav”, “Draug”, “Helgedom”, “Hädanfärd”, “Acerbitas” and if you like some comfy Neofolk, check out the project “Viper” on same page. More weird music hints to come 😂.
I first discovered Afflicted on the Relapse Single series vol. 5 compilation. It took me years to finally own “Prodigal Sun” , loved it but I’m just not into the 2nd full length, don’t like that they went Power Metal
