Love CREMATORY, indeed got into them with the reissues from NecroHarmonics, great move back then to reissue these gems. Now a Classic IMO in terms of super dark, suffocating DM with plenty awesome riffs!!
Great band to showcase how grindcore was a intrinsic part of oldschool death metal. Death metal bands of yore actually listened to grindcore in a serious way, and it showed in the music. Sure, these influences did gradually get digested and got utilized by great bands as part of the DM lexicon, but it ultimately got watered down by many bands xeroxing other death metal bands.
As per the rateyourmusic page for brutal death metal, tldr there has been lots of cross pollination between death metal and grind genres. Some bands focus on technicality and others focus on the intensity of grind genres. Here's an OSDM-ish band called Disordered from Utah which is classified as brutal death metal and goregrind or grindcore (depending on whether you trust encyclopedia metallum or discogs). They themselves listed Dead Infection, Carcass, and Napalm Death as influences and those bands are grind, though I'd say DI kind of leans into death metal (again the cross pollination between genres makes it confusing to put bands into rigid categories).
Crematory is awesome! The short lived Swedish death metal bands were the best ones if you ask me, other than Dismember of course. By the way, whatever happened to you playing guitar in RFI? Did you not think it was necessary anymore, or was it too much of a hassle to do weekly? I mean either way, every new RFI episode is better than the last in terms of editing and aesthetic, but I find some of the weird quirks of the older episodes to be really interesting, and I've often wondered why some of them were phased out. Regardless, great work as always!
This and the Polish Arkona are my favorite bands in what I call the "underground bands that unfortunately share names with larger Wackenslop bands" genre. Long, I know, but you'll see it used on MA soon.
Hey weird question could you recommend me some good black n roll/ speed bands? Stuff like venom, midnight, and chapel. I’m new to most underground stuff so was just wondering if you could shine a light on some good bands thanks and awesome video!
