My dad had every single of these albums, and get me into heavy music theme, when i was a kid. I was really intrigued by epic cover arts, and the music! Hell that was a gift from God! Really glad you covered them, still one of my favourite power/heavy bands of all time.

Russain Thrash Band you definitely must listen to is Front and their Mortal Surgery album. Very blood-spitting, brutal, evil album!

Aria = quality Generator Of Evil is great. Russian happens to have one of the sounds that work particularly well in metal. In my opinion, next to Japanese and my native Polish, it is probably the best-sounding language for non-English vocals. I never liked this description as "Russian Iron Maiden". Sometimes I have the impression that this type of description of bands is used by people who are unable to distinguish the style and details in the music. Thanks to this, despite clear differences, they are able to claim that Aria sounds like Iron Maiden (I even saw people who said Omen, the one from the US, sounded like IM!) or Solitude Aeturnus like Candlemass... Hail from Poland!

Aria is probably the most infamous example of a fantastic and unequivocally classic band which gets absolutely no attention in the west due to the sheer amount of nerds that occupy it. Speaking of Russian metal, are you familiar with the death metal band Mortem? They’ve been a favorite of mine for a while, especially when it comes to Russian underground stuff. Great work on this one!

I don't actually know of the Russian Mortem, will have to check them out. I like the Peruvian one though! The main Russian old school death metal I know about is Grenouer, Merlin, Krüger if they count.

No idea, unfortunately. Looking at the backlog now, at least around episode 150, but it probably goes back farther than that. He's always kind of had a looming presence over what we do.

I don't actually know much about them, will have to check them out. I've been meaning to do stuff on Чёрный Кофе, Valkyria, maybe Железный Поток...

@@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 Be sure to check out their album released under the Кредо moniker, that one is amazing. Lo-fi Russian production with neoclassical elements and speed metal riffs.

I love Berkut's stuff. He was original and added something special to the band. He had a career before Aria btw. He sang in prog band Autograph and it is really good. The recent vocalist is more like Kipelov's wanna be and sounds too sterile. Don't like him tbh.

I'm not too crazy about the newer vocalist but I thought that Curse of the Seas album had some really good riffs on it. Parts of it had like an early Slough Feg feel almost. I definitely need to check out more of Berkut's stuff, he's got a unique style.
