This was a great demonstration of a set of drills to learn thumb-draw. Thank you! Also, other archery instructors must hate you. They'd happily charge like Au$70/h for this. You're given out their knowledge for free. I appreciate it.

I never thought watching somebody count to 4 for 15 minutes would be that interesting :-)

For more in depth videos on this style of archery, I would highly recommend Armin Hirmer of Malta Archery (lots of content here on RU-vid). He is extremely knowledgeable in the field of horse bows and instinctive shooting, and has lots of small tips that can help improve your form and shot.

This is really great to have it broken down and explained for each step. The only change I have is for when your on a horse the reset does not have the bow down. IE: you keep the bow up and don't drop your bow as a reset for the next shot. However everything else looks exactly as I practice for the mounted portion of the shot cycle that works on the horse. I also had to make sure with my bow since its a bit longer than some re-curves that the bottom of my bow did not hit the horse during my reload or any stage of the loading shooting process. This involved a slight cant to my bow as I release.

I like that you described this method as reliable. There are A LOT of such methods if you want to look for them, with all the draw types you can think of, and suited for any possible equipment. Many of them are faster then this Turkish one. But this one is very secure, usable during any type of motion, and can be done reliably if you grabed your arrow any way. Near the nock, near arrowhead, pointing forwards or backwards ... it doesn't matter, you can handle anything. Throw your arrows on the ground, run by them, grab one, and try to shoot as soon as possible. Turkish style is the most reliable way to do it. I encourage archers to always learn this method, in addition to any other one they like most. When everything goes bad, quiver has moved, arrows are half spilled, and you are jumping through bushes ... this method will still work.

I recognised the arrows right away. They're from Alibow. Great and beautiful pattern! You chose well NuSensei!

Love me some Turkish/Ottoman archery, nice 2 see ur enjoying, really impressive persistence with this routine. Sometimes Turkish archery can be repetitive/overly the same, shooting at a very close puta target for example, but also repitition like this shotprocess drill.Imho, this helps consistency a bunch however, so it's worth it even if it gets a bit boring sometimes. Really loving all this content, keep it coming!

Nice. I may have to start going step by step like this but with the weave method using the Mediterranean draw.

This is the most excellent archery drill video! Ready, Aim, Shoot with Continuous Forward and Backward or Continuous Right (Left) Flank March accomplishes this drill. Again, this video is excellent and essential for true combat archery drill!

Essential basics well explained! A great rhythmic drill! Thank You. When You keep Your middle finger, ring finger and little finger closed in release, it will be easier to shoot arrows from the draw hand later, or to hold a rein lengthener on horseback.

Nice! This reminds me of the cadence that the Koshiya Kumiyumi team uses in battlefield archery demonstrations. When you were rotating, I thought you were about to do a rear shot (180 degree facing from the target) which is one of the best shots as far as intuitive archery mechanics. May I alternately suggest that there is also a less sexy 3-count rhythm, grabbing multiple arrows (3) out of the quiver and holding them with the bottom three fingers of the bowhand essentially using it as a magazine. Slide, nock, loose. The temporary faster rate allows for multiple shots on a target as you pass by.

I see similarities between this rhythm and the ksl shot sequence. Deliberate sequencing of steps to be consistent. 👍
@NUSensei
@NUSensei 4 года назад
There's a closer parallel in the "five pillars" of archery. This sequence is more about rhythm and repetition; the five pillars of archery is the foundation of archery.

Within an “end” while shooting his method I found it very important to have a rhythm arrow to arrow similar to what I see you using here. Obviously one was for warfare and the other for scores big difference there.

Hi Nu Sensei, Im beginning my thumb draw journey and I was wondering if you had any specific videos to recommend for learning correct form and posture for beginners. Not sure if it's okay to watch instructionals for three finger trad shooting.

Hello Nu! I am right handed, always used traditional bow with the 3 fingers mediterranean technique and arrow in the rest on the left side...now i am going to start training for the first time with a traditional Corean bow, so using thumb and arrow on the right side of the arrow...hope this will not be very difficult and take so many time. Just a question: do you think that a Corean arrow could be a good choise for hunting with no aiming but just instinct? Never heard about a bowhunter using traditional Corean bow! Thanks so much!!!

Does it mater if you put the arrow with feather facing the wrong way? Meaning it will touch the bow instead of facing away?
@NUSensei
@NUSensei 3 года назад
For practical purposes, it doesn't matter that much. The feathers do not cause that much deflection. It might make a difference if doing precision target shooting, but it's not going to cause you to entirely miss the target.

i can see the point in the standing 4 steps. I can maybe see the point in the marching 4 steps. however, i don't see the point in the spinning 4 steps.
@brokefangmagepunk3685
@brokefangmagepunk3685 4 года назад
I would assume it would be for a combat situation with targets in a couple directions and you need to change targets and direction while still setting up your shot quickly
@NUSensei
@NUSensei 4 года назад
I see it as more of a bridging exercise to train coordination and timing without having to move around dangerously. It isolates each step and action without the innate feeling of continuing to walk forwards. I actually originally learned the steps using the turns rather than with a static stance.
@cloudrouju526
@cloudrouju526 4 года назад
Brokefang Magepunk i have my reservations about your assumption because the shots are always executed at step 3, which is still the original position.
@cloudrouju526
@cloudrouju526 4 года назад
NUSensei so it's more about training whole body coordination that is missing in normal standing archery.
@brokefangmagepunk3685
@brokefangmagepunk3685 4 года назад
@@cloudrouju526 In my thinking it would be used for corners or cover. Your firing step would be for turning out of cover getting off a quick shot and turn back in while effortlessly setting up your next shot. Seeing as they are exercises they can and should be incorporated into your natural movements. It's like martial arts and learning a kata, it doesn't mean you can only use the moves you learned in the exact same way every time. It's so you can effortlessly flow into your next move and have consistent aim and power every shot

So, in this method feather alignment should be ignored?
@NUSensei

Feather alignment doesn't matter.

Using two-feathered arrows makes it even simpler and not vulnerable to be stripped like the "cock" feather (the one at right angle to the nock) if it gets nocked towards the bow.
