Perry's and Selleck's acting was top notch. The way Chandler yells at Richard really makes you feel like he hate that man. And Selleck's "You go get her Chandler", saying like it's the hardest decision he had to make in his life. "You had your chance with her. You had your chance and you blew it! And now it's my chance and I'am not gonna blow it, because we are meant for eachother." Yea, this scene is pretty epic.
+Zero Cool Exactly. Chandler especially went through a huge character development and I like how he become unafraid of relationship. Just another great aspect of this show, aside from the great sense of humour.
I prefer courtney cox with selleck and not perry. She and MP were goofy and silly together I never bought them together.I liked selleck and better.its was more of a mature relationship.
And he said to Joey, I’m going to get there and kick his ass. Will you help me? Joey: I don’t think we get us ass kicked is the solution. You just go and find Monica!
@@yunyun3610 I would’ve liked to see that lol Joey and Chandler fighting Richard. Specially since they were obsessed with him in one episode in season 2
The perfect blend of intensity, humor, and sadness. I think Mathew Perry was the most versatile actor in the series among the other main cast and the performance in this scene being the best.
Up until that moment he was nonchalant about no wanting to marry or have kids with Monica, which was fine. Then changed his mind years after, saw she was dating STEADY with someone else, and decided “oh I’m ready now” and fucking proposed. It wasn’t until he saw how heartbroken Monica was at the idea of Chandler not proposing that he understood. He’s garbage lmao
@@valentinafangirling i wouldn't say garbage, it's possible after time he realised he was willing to have kids with monica so they could be together. a little selfish to interrupt her relationship but i don't think he's a bad person
I just love that scene at the end with Richard already holding up the ring box for Chandler to grab when he runs back in. The thing is Chandler and Richard liked each other back when Richard and Monica were dating so it’s not like they can really hate each other in this scene, even though they’re both in love with her. In the end, Richard is just a decent guy.
As Chandler said correctly he had her chance with her and he blew it. He cannot just come back 3 years later and not only expect her to be waiting out there but ruin her existing relationship. What he could have done is not show up at all.
“You had your chance with her! You had your chance with her and YOU blew it!! Now it’s MY chance, and I’m NOT gonna blow it, ‘cause we’re meant for each other!!!!” That always makes me tear up... And the proposal of course!! ..... AND the wedding !!!!
In truth, they weren't made for each other. In real life you don't see Chandlers with Monicas together. And if you do, they're not happy and live seperate lives.
Richard was no doubt my favorite guest star on the show. I always liked the friendship between Chandler and him in season 2. I never liked the fact that Chandler hated Richard after this season. Made me feel bad for Richard, didn't deserve it. Then again, i didn't like it when he told Monica he still loved her. Lost a little respect for him
I can understand Chandler disliked him after that. Richard knew he was dating Monica, and even though they both got along back when he was still dating her, he tried to steal her from him.
As much as I did not like what Richard did in this episode, I love the fact it gave Chandler a platform to show his growth. Telling Richard he had his chance and scrood up, but he was never going to let any of his fears bleed into his relationship and screw it up. I always loved how Chandler was never afraid of committing to Monica.
I agree. It showed us that yes, Chandler was deathly afraid of commitment, but he was not, and never will be, afraid of *committing to Monica*. That is how much he loves her.
And it also showed Monica's love and sincerity towards Chandler. She proved that she didn't stay with him just because she run out of options and settled for less. Having Richard to come back gave her a choice and chance to re-think her feelings. I hated how everybody in the show said things like Monica could have someone better. Deep down, I was like, how could you not want Chandler? He is handsome, smart, makes good money, witty, and understanding
i think this was the biggest character development for chandler. he’s so afraid of commitment but monica makes him not as afraid. he knows he wants to marry her and spend the rest of his life with her because they’re meant for each other. in another episode after this one monica asks if he’s afraid of being with the same person (her) for the rest of his life and he immediately says “no” without any hesitation. you know what i call that ? growth 👌
great scene. As far as I'm concerned Matthew Perry was Friends. Tremendous comic timing. He was the funniest and most likeable of them by far. RIP Matthew Perry.
“You had your chance with her. You had your chance and you blew it! And this is my chance and I am not gonna blow it, because we are meant for each other!” All I want in life is for someone to fight for me like that. 😭😭😭
It's clips like this that makes Friends really good not just in comedy, but writing how complex the characters are. Let's face it, everyone could feel the chemistry between Monica and Richard, that by the end of their relationship the audience had to be reminded the issues couples with drastic age have to face. And while both Monica and Richard were a loving couple, both could not agree what they wanted their future to look like as Richard wanted to be done with fatherhood while Monica always wanted her chance to have motherhood. Later, as Monica hooks up with Chandler, she unknowing helps Chandler to learn overcome his issues that stemmed from an unstable childhood and helps him to learn to trust others, starting with her. It's because of this developing trust that Chandler really values Monica and it's obvious that he would never have the chance for happiness if she wasn't in his life. Chandler likely before didn't believe in marriage as he witnessed his parent's tarnished relationship, and he probably didn't want to think about it, till he realize how in love he was with Monica and why he fell in love with her. So while later after Richard spent time away from Monica, he came to regret letting her go willingly decides if having a baby with her will keep her in his life, so be it. Thankfully, while having a special spot for Richard, Monica knew that was not how she wanted her life to be and knew later on Richard would not be truly happy with that decision. She also understands that she could never put Chandler in a similar situation (to her surprise he genuinely wants to marry her and have kids with, just threw her off for the surprise effect,) but it's likely she was placing a lot of trust with Chandler hoping they could have a future together. After Richard was rejected for his offer, he knew that while he loved Monica, it's likely he lost her heart to Chandler and let's her be happy with someone who did want that future with her. Whether it's exhilarating, frustrating, funny, or tragic, this scene really shows to human side to this characters and it shows why this show is still well loved 20+ years later.
my favorite part is when chandler gives that whole big speech and him and richard have a bit of a bonding moment but then chandler almost forgets the ring 😂 it’s just so chandler
This scene forever sealed Richard as one of my favorite Friends characters. Literally everything his character did to win Monica’s heart I’ve done as well. Ever since this scene I’ve been a huge Tom Selleck fan. Truly a heart of gold and the fact he let Chandler be with Monica spoke really loud volumes about his character. I know how hard it was to let Monica go, as an identical experience happened to me. It’s actually fitting that this is his last scene as he goes out with an atomic bomb sized bang. Way to go Richard!!!!!!!!! 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
This scene would have played out fine without the canned laughter. Richard was a genuinely good character. His final line was totally believable and sad. You knew who he was.
“You had your chance with her and you blew it! And this is my chance and I am not gonna blow it, because we are meant for each other!” This is probably the most heartfelt line in the entire series imo. Matthew Perry’s acting here is just top notch.
This scene is just awesome. The way Chandler aka #MatthewPerry fights for his love is endearing. Although he never hated Richard as per se, he makes his stand clear where his love for Monica is concerned. Only Matthew Perry could have pulled this scene so well. Although Selleck is awesome, Matthew is simply outstanding.
This should have been an Oscar worthy performance. You could tell Chandler was hurting inside when he argued with Richard. He can't compete with Richard over Monica's love for him. But Chandler is willing to make Monica happy. When Richard said "You go get her, Chandler", you could also hear Richard hurting inside as well, sacrificing his love for Monica for someone who will give her a better life.
I really like richard. He wasn't the standard boyfriend character that's only around for a few episodes. You actually see him as someone who could get together with Monica. If Chandler and Monica never got together, I would have totally shipped Richard and Monica for the end game of the series.
This is a great scene - and I really think a Monica is one of those rare characters who IS worth fighting for and should have a million guys begging to have her. That may sound bad - but she’s an amazing woman
Chandler really had such a great surprisal proposal set up for Monica and then Richard showed up LOL. I won't hate on him though he was a good guy and I don't feel like he was trying to break them apart he was just stating his love.
He knew they are together yet still confessed his love anyway. He should've just sealed his feelings, then this whole thing wouldn't have happened in the first place. Makes up for good drama tho☺
Marry me Chandler Bing 😭😭😭 I don't know how many genuine guys are out there who would fight like this for a girl .. "You had your chance with her and you blew it .. it's my chance and I am not going to blow it" ❤️❤️ I am surrounded with a river of my tears .. so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I wish Chandler had hugged Richard one last time before leaving, ending their story on a positive and happy note. After all, it was a tough decision for Richard and also they used to be good friends in earlier seasons.
