Richard David Briers CBE, 79, (14th January 1934 - 17th February 2013) was an English actor. His fifty-year career encompassed television, stage, film and radio.
When Richard died a part of me died as well , as I grew up watching him on TV and then meeting him in Chiswick when I was a bus driver on the 27s....I then met him in the Tabard pub and he bought me a beer ....lovely gentleman .....
I didn't realize they only made 30 episodes of Good Life or as it is known here, Good Neighbors. Regardless of the name, it was one of the funniest sitcoms ever made. Thank you to Felicity, Penelope, Paul and especially Richard for the wonderful series.
I met Richard Briers once, he parked next to me and we briefly passed the time of day. I didn't recognise him until after we'd gone into a shop and gone our different ways. He just seemed so familiar, warm and friendly, a genuinely nice man - I felt I knew him.
Watched Monarch of the Glen as long as Richard Briers was on it, after that, lost all interest. One line of his that has stuck in my mind is when he sees that his friend, played by Julian Fellowes, has put on weight, and says "fond of the sauce, are we?" Brilliant.
Looks like my grandfather. Watch the Swedish production Den ofrivillige golfaren - a Scottish comedy ft a Bergman actor. Funnier than Monte Python. I PROVIDE a gem, SVT play or on DVD.
