I’m white and 72 years old and I was listening to Mr. Pryor in 1973 as a young Marine in California. RIP Richard. Even God will appreciate your comedy!!!!🙏🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
So I was lucky enough to go to this show. Me, my two uncles(one who is seen taking pictures) and two friends. We are/were all BIG Richie fans. We stayed in line all night at the Hollywood Palladium to get good seats but when the doors opened and we went in, the first rows were already taken. That sucked but my point is, we were there on the first night and being huge fans started chanting Mudbone, Mudbone, he didn't have a skit ready at that time so this Mudbone skit he must of come up with overnight cuz we didn't get to see it. Anyway, just taking the credit for getting you all getting to hear Mudbone one last time. LOL.
He was the GREATEST ever! No one will ever hold a candle to him. I saw him when he first got famous in the 70s. I have never heard anyone in my life that could make me laugh like Richard.
When I was a kid we had a bootleg copy of a Richard Pryor tape. It had a Mudbone story on it. We played it so much you couldn’t even make words out of it any more. By then it didn’t even matter. We knew it by heart. That’s been 35 years ago, I still remember it word for word. Long live king Richard!
I landed in Juvenile Hall when I was 15, and there was this kid in there that knew one of Richard Pryor's albums by heart. You closed your eyes and listened to him, it was like Richard Pryor himself was talking from out of his cell. Midnight in Juvey with some faceless kid doing the greatest Pryor impersonation I've ever heard for a cellblock full of delinquents.
The truest comedy is birthed in pain. I've seen and enjoyed comedians from the fifties onwards and Mr. Pryor was a master at converting pain to comedy and; in my opinion, was one of the greatest comics to provide laughs to humanity over the past 70+ years. So much of what passes for comedy nowadays consists predominately of statements that are at other peoples expense - an easy way to get a laugh. True comedy is very hard work. Even Hollywood and the Academy never appreciated the art of comedy until very recently. Genius's like Richard Pryor deserve all the praise we can muster.
Richard is still the best ever..he would bring inanimate objects to life like in his mafia routine..he turned the microphone stand into a young Richard Pryor..he humanized animals giving them personalities and then, then..there was mudbone. pure genius.
I had the cassette tapes of Richard. I kept those two tapes for over 20 yrs. And now I can't find them.. miss Rudolf, mudbone, etc. One of the GREATEST.. Richard Pryor..
Richard Pryor sharing the wisdom of Mud Bone is my favorite routine from my favorite comic. I grew up with his humor and needed some today. Thanks for posting. 😂
When Bob Newhart says you’re the best and his favorite comedian, you’re the best! Bob Newhart was one of the most brilliant of the dry-delivery comedians. He had two hit shows that ran for many years and became classic, so that’s high praise. Of course you don’t need Bob’s endorsement when anyone that has ever heard Pryor knows his genius. Not only was his material funny as hell, but just like George Carlin, there was always a relevant subtext to much of the material. His material is timeless, unlike so many comedians whose material becomes dated quickly.
What's amazing about this every time I see this. He was going to stop until he seen the camera crew, got inspired and kept going that what makes him so great. No routine just doing everything right off the head.
I saw him on television at my Mothers house. He was being pushed in a Wheelchair down the aisle, towards the stage, after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I took one look and tears started streaming down my face. Mother asked me what's wrong? I said he reminds me of Terry. (My older brother, the first of five children....) he'd been diagnosed with MS, and dealt with it for a long time. Mr. Pryor's body language, in his wheelchair, made me want to hug him, rock him, and kiss his hands. I want to cry thinking about him. MS is one of the most Horrifying diseases people deal with. God Bless Anyone who has had the MS card dealt to them. Bless their families.
I love Richard Pryor, you couldn't help but laugh and bust a gut ...one of my favorites stories of his . I was listening to him since back in 1976 ....as a teenager. Such a very talented man .
Man I miss this guy!He was one of the funniest comedians I ever heard.Thing about that is that this man was exactly 20 years older than me.Now I'm about 5 years away from his age when he died.(December 1st,1940-December 10th 2005)
Years ago, I knew Richard Pryor was a great actor and comedian. I just didn't realize how great he was. Now, May 2023, I've come to understand this man was a unique genius as I re-watch, listen and learn from his performances.
Every single time I see him I’m amazed at his level of talent, his pure, brilliant, genius. His vulnerability always shone through. He was honest and real. There has never been anyone to equal him. There are certainly good comics since then, each really good in their own way. But Richard was a pure gift to us all.
I truly enjoyed this video of the crowd requesting Mudbone, Richard Pryor slipping into character, and the crowd hanging onto every word. He enjoyed doing it for the crowd, and they loved him for doing it.
There will never be another comedian like Richard Pryor Remembering listening to his albums when I was a kid!!! Worked hard and played hard RIP RP You are missed! ♥️
I am a scholar of literature. I have written about novels, short stories, poems, and stage plays. Believe me when I tell you that especially with Mudbone, Pryor elevated stand-up comedy to a level that is truly among the greats - Plautus and Terence and Aristophanes and Goldoni and Molière are chilling with their peer in the afterlife. What that man gave us is ART.
You know if Richard can make his own self laugh then that's true art form 2:51 SIMPLY THE BEST!! LIVE IN ETERNAL SPIRIT ALWAYS ANGEL ANCESTOR RP!! 👊🏽 🙏🏽
Richard was so hilariously funny when I was a kid, I laughed til I had tears. His first mudbone story on record was when he went to Chicago and messed with the voodoo witch!
There have been lots of other great comedians and I take nothing away from their accomplishments. But Pryor? He's the King. The greatest of all time. Some others might come close, but they are only close enough to shine his shoes!
True Random Story: I finished my mile walk this morning and am sitting near a gorgeous fountain at a park. I haven't caught sunrise in a while. As it came out, I closed my eyes, basked in its warmth, and heard Richard's voice: "Keep some sunshine on your face." I smiled and turned my head over and over to ensure the light touched every part of my countenance. Boy, did it fill me up. The sun is inspiring. 🌅💛 Something nudged me to find this Mudbone monologue, as I haven't watched "Sunset Strip" in ages. When he said the sun came out on Wednesday, I gasped inside because today is Wednesday. 😂 As often as I have seen this standup, I forgot that small detail. Yes, the sun rises daily, but my arbitrarily revisiting this clip felt like a God wink. 🙌🏾😉 It has been a rough life season for me, and He knows this. But He is still there among everything, speaking in ways He knows we'll understand. Thank God for Richard Pryor. He was living art: through all his pain, knowledge, and joy, he put a smile on so many faces and hearts in a way nobody else has. Forever my inspiration. ❤ This anecdote tells us we don't need much to be happy. And whether we are where we want to be or have what we wish, make life a grand old ball. Here's to living, not existing. 💛☀️🌅🌞🌻😉 I love you guys.
I had the good fortune to see this beautiful soul in the early 80s at the Arie Crown theatre in Chicago. He KILLED. A masterclass in humanity. Richard was one of only two performers who could be called a prophet. The other was Lenny Bruce. Kindred souls. I like to picture them in the afterlife, cracking each other up.
